Everyone has heard about the terrible, tragic Texas school shooting. As usual, Democrats see this as an opportunity to blame guns…and Republicans. They will demand gun bans, strict gun control and gun confiscation. So what else is new?

 

This tragic shooting is just more proof that we live in a country that is bitterly divided. So divided that the two sides- right and left, Republican and Democrat, conservative and liberal- can’t agree on anything.

 

We appear headed for a divorce. Because it’s clear neither side can live with the other. There is no way to compromise when two sides see things so differently. It’s like night and day. It’s almost as if…

 

Republicans are from Mars and Democrats are from Ur-anus.

 

Here are the 12 lessons I’ve learned from this tragedy. I’m certain tens of millions of conservative patriots see it the exact same way. Wanna bet?

 

Guns aren’t the problem. β€œGun Free Zones” are the problem. They are killing fields. They are an open invitation for mentally-deranged criminals and criminally insane madmen to walk in and start shooting. β€œGun Free Zone” signs are like a blinking neon sign in Vegas screaming, β€œCome on in and kill us. We are helpless, defenseless and weak.”

 

Guns didn’t cause this tragedy. But a good guy with a gun sure ended it. An armed border agent killed the bad guy, thereby saving lives. That should be the headline.

 

We need more good guys (and gals) with guns to stop bad guys. Every school needs armed security. There should be only a single point of entry to every school- and a guard must always protect that entrance. All other doors to the school need to be locked and secured.

 

Backing up the armed security at every school should be teachers and/or administrators with guns and professional gun training.

 

How can we afford all this? I’ve argued from day one it was a disastrous decision and tragic mistake to give another $40 billion to Ukraine. We need to worry about America. We could have used that $40 billion here at home. Half of it ($20 billion) should have been used to pay for armed security at every school in America.

 

If we really want to protect children, secure the border. The other half of the Ukraine funding ($20 billion more) should have been used to build and secure the wall on our Southern border. If we’re angry and shocked as a nation about 19 innocent young children dying in that school shooting, shouldn’t we be even more concerned with tens of thousands of American kids dying each year from drug overdoses- with drugs brought through our porous open border. Everything that comes over that border is a threat to America’s children- drugs, human traffickers, child sex traffickers and tons of violent criminals, gang bangers and MS-13 murderers. Why didn’t we use that Ukraine money to save thousands of children’s lives by securing the border?

Gun control is never the answer. Gun control is a massive failure. There are far more shootings, violent crimes and murders in Democrat-run big cities with strict gun control than anywhere else. If strict gun control works, why are the streets of Democrat cities like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles such killing fields? The answer is simple: strict gun control never stops criminals. It just leaves the good people defenseless.

 

New gun laws will do nothing to stop crime or mass murders. Why don’t we enforce laws already on the books against violent criminals? Crimes are almost always committed by repeat offenders that Democrat District Attorneys allowed back on the streets.

 

Instead of useless new laws, why don’t we make mass murder (the killing of two or more) a DEATH PENALTY crime. If convicted of mass murder, there are no appeals, the convicted mass killer is executed the next day by firing squad. End of story. That’s the way to deter more mass shootings.

 

Investigate Big Pharma for the drugs they pump into young males for depression, anger issues, ADD and mental illness. Virtually every mass killer in recent memory was on these drugs. The side effects of these drugs are suicidal and violent thoughts. Why are we drugging so many male teenagers?

 

Never mention β€œDefund Police” ever again. Incidents like this prove we need more police, not less.

 

But there are many questions about how these specific police responded. Did they stand around for an hour while kids were being murdered? Police announced they waited so long because they were β€œafraid to get shot.” Really? If police are afraid to get shot, they should be instantly terminated. That’s their job- to risk their life to protect civilians. So, no more β€œdefund police,” but let’s re-think how we’re hiring and training police. We need heroic macho warriors. Stop trying to make them into politically-correct pansies, poets and social workers.

 

These are the 12 commonsense lessons millions of conservative patriots learned from this tragic mass shooting. I know Democrats will be shocked and horrified. That’s why it may be time for a divorce. This marriage isn’t working.

After listening to this video all I can say is most people I know have very poor memories, fortunately anon has a memory that grabs a hold of things that stick out and are important and Anon can logically analyze the info. Not bragging just saying anons have abilities that are important to our research . Anon has been shocked how poor memories most people have, or how bad their attention spans are.

Uvalde school district Police Chief Pedro β€œPete” Arredondo, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, had earned praise from at least one supervisor as an β€œexcellent” employee and officer.

 

Soon, Arredondo is moving on from being chief. He was elected May 7 to Uvalde’s City Council.

 

Arredondo got 126 votes, nearly 70 percent of the vote for District 3 of council, in the low-turnout municipal races, city election results show. Arredondo beat his nearest challenger in the four-person race, Beco Diaz, who garnered nearly 20 percent of the vote. Arredondo will replace current District 3 council member Rogelio M. MuΓ±oz, city records show.

 

But Arredondo now stands at a crossroads as he faces increasing criticism from members of the community he grew up in over his agency’s response to one of the country’s worst mass shootings.

 

Arredondo, 50, was the incident commander at the chaotic scene Tuesday after a gunman entered open doors of Robb Elementary School, locked himself in two adjoining classrooms with students and their two teachers and sprayed them with gunfire from an assault-style rifle.

 

As commander, Arredondo was in charge of 19 officers who assembled in the hallway as Salvador Ramos was terrorizing and shooting the teachers and fourth-grade students. The flurry of gunfire subsided to sporadic shots, and Arredondo assumed the β€œactive shooting” was over and decided not to break into the rooms until specialized SWAT officers showed up, Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw said Friday.

 

Vital minutes elapsed as Ramos was inside the school for up to an hour. The gunman was eventually killed by a Border Patrol tactical team, but not before fatally shooting 19 children and the two teachers and wounding 17 more people.

 

Arredondo was not unfamiliar to active-shooter scenarios. He trained with at least one previous department in such situations.

 

Before taking the jobat the Uvalde school district in early 2020, Arredondo was a police captain at Laredo’s United Independent School District for about three years.

 

United ISD Police Chief Ray Garner said that before Arredondo came to work for him, Arredondo had worked for Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar and was the No. 3 person at that office.

 

Cuellar and Arredono could not be reached for comment for this story.

 

Garner said Arredondo had a great work ethic and was eager to learn. Arredondo was responsible for the Laredo district’s north side schools.

 

β€œHe was easy to talk to and he was real concerned about his kids in the schools,” Garner said. β€œHe was an excellent officer down here.”

 

β€œDown here, we do a lot of training on active-shooter scenarios, and he was involved in those,” Garner said.β€œWe train (officers) to go straight for the shooters and neutralize them.”

 

Arredondo was not married and did not have his own kids when he left United for the job in Uvalde.

 

Arredondo was born in Uvalde, a town of 16,000 that serves as a transition point for recreation along the Frio River, Garner State Park and the South Texas shale.

 

He went to the same district he now oversees and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1990. And he has family there.

 

β€œWhen I heard about the opening at UCISD, I didn’t even have to think twice about applying,” Arredondo told the Uvalde News-Leader in an interview in April 2020.

 

He recalled that many educators in the Uvalde district had made a good impact on his life.

 

β€œI made sure to mention them in my interview,” Arredondo told the News-Leader.

 

After high school, he went on to graduate from Southwest Texas Junior College, and Texas A&M Commerce with a degree in organizational management.

His first job after graduating from the SWTJC law enforcement academy in 1993 was as a 911 dispatcher for the Uvalde Police Department.

The beefed-up security was done, in part, to comply with state legislation passed in the wake of the 2018 Santa Fe High School shooting near Houston in which eight students and two teachers were killed.

 

The Uvalde district adopted several security measures that included its own police force, threat assessment teams at each school, a threat reporting system, social media monitoring software, fences around schools and a requirement that teachers lock their classroom doors, NBC News reported.

 

Shortly after Arredondo arrived to his job in Uvalde, the pandemic hit and emptied the schools.

 

β€œWe might not have students, but we have some employees working β€” if there is one working, we are working,” Arredondo said.

 

During the closure, he said officers still maintained a schedule, patrolled campuses, and made sure they are available to the staff while they are on campus. On food distribution days, the officers aided in traffic control.

He was doing this with 4 to 5 officers β€” much smaller than the school police force in Laredo.

 

Laredo United has 62 campuses, more than 40,000 students and nearly 7,000 employees. The police department has 88 peace officers and 127 security guards, and a yearly budget of $10 million, Garner said.

 

Arredondo said assimilation into his new role benefited from the good communication within the department, and he wanted his small force to continue to be proactive, visible, and help educate.

He added that he was looking forward to fostering positive relationships, being out in the community and working with his staff and students.

"Bankruptcies Need To Happen": Elon Musk Says Economy Is In For A Necessary "Rude Awakening"

 

You can say what you want about Elon Musk's business practices at Tesla over the last decade, but he sure seems to be spot on when it comes to his view on macro nowadays.

 

Musk said on Twitter last week that he thinks it would be "beneficial" for the U.S. to go into recession because "some bankruptcies need to happen", according to a new New York Post report.

 

We're not sure Musk would have felt the same way just a couple of years ago when Tesla was reportedly on the verge of bankruptcy, but those days have passed.

 

Discussing the economy on social media, Musk said it was due for a "rude awakening" and that working from home has "made Americans lazy".

 

He was queried as to whether or not he thought a recession was on its way and told a Twitter user: β€œYes, but this is actually a good thing. It has been raining money on fools for too long.”

 

β€œSome bankruptcies need to happen. Also, all the Covid stay-at-home stuff has tricked people into thinking that you don’t actually need to work hard,” he continued.

 

He said he thought a recession would last 12 to 18 months and, channeling his inner Milton Friedman, said: β€œCompanies that are inherently negative cash flow (ie value destroyers) need to die, so that they stop consuming resources.”

 

You can call it ironic that Musk's company would have likely been wiped out in a recession a couple of years ago, but for now the Tesla founder seems to have far more of a clue about economics than those in government and at the Fed.

 

At this rate, between defending free speech and understanding how a free market is supposed to work, Musk might as well take the next step and just run for President…

Last week, the Biden administration also offered to provide North Korea Covid vaccines earlier this week, but North Korea did not respond.

 

Instead, North Korea’s leaders are treating the virus with traditional medicine, urging the public to treat the virus by consuming willow leaves, ginger, honeysuckle tea and antibiotics including ibuprofen and amoxicillin and gargling with salt water.

 

A β€œthousand of tonnes of salt” were reportedly sent to Pyongyang to make an β€œantiseptic solution.”

 

The totalitarian country is also rolling out its own COVID-19 vaccine that it calls an β€œimmortal potion of love” from the β€œHighest Dignity,” leader Kim Jong Un, Radio Free Asia reports. The vaccines are reserved for a limited number of military and construction workers.

 

Without outside intervention, North Korea has a Covid fatality rate of 0.002 percent.

 

More people have died after receiving a COVID jab than from any other vaccine in history, while Americans died in hospitals when admitted with COVID as medical practitioners abide by CDC and NIH emergency protocols.

One more post on Jeremy Sivits then I'm moving on. Here is the obituary of Jeremy's father, Daniel W. Sivits. Interesting military background, a Marine, then Army, then after serving two combat tours in Vietnam went on to be a member of the Navy Underwater Demolition Team (UDT). Massive New Mexico Fire Started By U.S. Forest Service

 

The largest wildfire in New Mexico historyβ€”which is still burningβ€”was started by the U.S. Forest Service, federal investigators announced Friday.

 

The catastrophe began as two fires that merged into one. Both wildfires have now been conclusively traced to planned burns conducted by the Forest Service. Planned or "prescribed" burns are used to reduce the threat of extreme fires by reducing the amount of dry fuel in the forest.

 

So far, the New Mexico fire has destroyed 330 homes and scorched some 500 square miles. The cost of battling the blaze has surpassed $130 million, and rises another $5 million each day, according to the Associated Press.

 

The Hermits Peak Fire started on April 6. On April 19, the Calf Canyon Fire sprang from a reignited "burn pile" that had been dormant through three winter snow events. They merged on April 22, and their destructive march across the Land of Enchantment still hasn't ended.

 

On May 13, New Mexico governor Michelle Lujan Grisham asked the federal government to cover 100% of the response and recovery costs. Following the Forest Service announcement, Grisham said:

 

β€œThe pain and suffering of New Mexicans caused by the actions of the U.S. Forest Serviceβ€”an agency that is intended to be a steward of our landsβ€”is unfathomable. This is a first step toward the federal government taking full responsibility for the largest wildfire in state history."

 

On May 20, Forest Service Chief Randy Moore announced, "I am initiating a pause on prescribed fire operations on National Forest System lands while we conduct a 90-day review of protocols, decision support tools and practices ahead of planned operations this this fall."

 

In a typical year, the Forest Service conducts 4,500 prescribed burns. "In 99.84% of cases, prescribed fires go as planned," said Moore.

 

As New Mexicans can attest, the other 0.16% can be a doozie. The 2000 Cerro Grande Fire in New Mexico also started as a prescribed burn. Before it was extinguished, it torched 48,000 acres, destroyed buildings at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, left hundreds of families homeless and caused about $1 billion in damage.

JosΓ© MarΓ­a FernΓ‘ndez Sousa-Faro, the founder and president of PharmaMar, is one of the over 2,200 people identified as having paid a criminal network to fake their coronavirus vaccination status, following a Spanish police operation known as Operation Jenner.

 

The 76-year-old was shown in the vaccine registry as having taken at least three doses of Wuhan virus vaccine, investigators stated.

 

Police say several other high profile names are on the list, including Australian tennis player Álex de Miñaur and Spanish musician Omar Montes.

 

Police say that the network was able to change vaccine statuses in the Spanish National Vaccination Registry and charged clients cash for the service, the newspaper El Mundo reports.

 

According to police, the network facilitating the fake vaccination papers was in operation from around September of last year until January of this year. Operation Jenner also led to the dismantling of a broader network that operated across the European Union.

 

Forgers are said to have charged different amounts of cash for their service depending on how many doses the person wished to be marked as having received. A total of 15 people, including a nurse and a nursing assistant, were arrested earlier this year in connection with the operation.

 

The nurses are accused of having stolen the personal access codes of other medical professionals and used said access codes to commit fraudulent activities.

 

Over the course of the Wuhan virus pandemic, there have been multiple networks offering fake vaccination documents, as many countries enacted health passport systems requiring vaccinations, proof of recent recovery, or negative tests to access venues, use transportation, or simply be allowed to work.

 

In December, Italian police claimed the number of fake coronavirus vaccination documents being sold online had surged and warned medical professionals, including doctors, may have been involved in faking people’s vaccination status.

 

Italian police officer Fabio Ferrari commented at the time on other issues arising from the sale of the fake documents, saying: β€œWhat people don’t realise is that they hand over their ID and patient documents to rogue individuals and that this information is then resold.”

I could see this being the plan of some types. Though any such projects and programs attempted in history always yield unpredictable results. We are a proverbial abyss and their efforts to create one for us to gaze into is not a one way interaction. Raytheon partners with Lockheed, Kongsberg on $400M in US missile contracts

 

Tucson-based Raytheon Missiles & Defense has won contracts worth more than $400 million with industry partners, including contracts to replace Javelin anti-tank missiles to help Ukraine repel Russia.

 

The Tucson-based Javelin Joint Venture, comprised of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, was recently awarded two Army contracts worth a total of $309 million to produce Javelin missiles and launchers.

 

And Raytheon and partner Kongsberg Defence of Norway were awarded a two-year, $102.7 million contract option to produce Naval Strike Missile systems for the Navy’s β€œOver-the-Horizon Weapon System,” a long-range anti-ship missile system.

 

Replenishing Javelins

 

The Army recently awarded the Javelin Joint Venture separate contract options of $238 million and $71 million for Javelin systems, with estimated completion dates in 2025.

 

The Pentagon is looking to increase Javelin production since the U.S. has sent more than 5,500 Javelins and its allies including the United Kingdom have sent thousands more to Ukraine, which has reportedly used them along with other weapons to destroy hundreds of Russian tanks and vehicles.

 

Raytheon leads the Javelin joint venture in Tucson and provides system engineering and management support and production of the command launch unit, missile guidance and system software.

 

Lockheed provides missile engineering and production support and assembles the missile rounds in Alabama.

 

The Javelin β€” which costs about $215,000 per copy β€” can be fired from a shoulder-mounted launcher or from military vehicles. The system uses heat-seeking infrared guidance and automatically locks onto targets up to about 2 1/2 miles away to deliver a 19-pound, armor-penetrating warhead.

 

First fielded in 1996, the Javelin has been incrementally upgraded and is in use by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps as well as about 20 allied nations, with extensive combat use in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Tencent, a tech conglomerate, routinely censors the internet at the behest of the Chinese Communist Party and has surveilled foreign users of its WeChat messaging app. Anta, a sports apparel company, has faced accusations of using cotton sourced from labor camps in Xinjiang. Alibaba, which operates China's equivalent to Google, has links to the People's Liberation Army.

 

Generation's investments are part of a growing trend of firms touting social justice causes while profiting off companies that aid the authoritarian regime in Beijing. Coca-Cola, Delta, and Major League Baseball came under fire last year for criticizing voting laws in Georgia while raking in billions of dollars from China. The baseball league pulled its All-Star Game from Atlanta over the voting laws, but days later signed a licensing agreement with Tencent. The league entered the deal even though Tencent had blocked NBA games from airing in China because a league executive defended pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

 

Gore has followed a similar playbook. He accused Republicans last year of passing "truly un-American" voting laws while he profited from investments in China, which is led by unelected Communist Party bureaucrats.

 

Generation defends its Chinese investments on the grounds that the companies have pledged to curtail carbon emissions. The firm also cites the companies' "significantly higher upside" than other investments in its portfolio.

 

Generation has worked closely with Tencent and Alibaba for years to develop its carbon emissions standards. The companies "have leapfrogged Western peers" by announcing plans to have net-zero carbon emissions by 2030, Generation said in a letter to shareholders last month. Generation voted to reelect Yang Siu Shun to the Tencent board of directors last year. "Sustainable investing can at times raise challenging issues, and we have recently been grappling with one at Anta Sports," Generation said in its investor letter, acknowledging allegations that the apparel maker uses cotton made from slave labor in China's Xinjiang province. Just the News reported earlier this year that the Pentagon inspector general concluded that at least 50 Afghan refugees brought to the United States in the aftermath of the bungled U.S. troop withdrawal last August had "significant security" risks in their backgrounds that weren't detected because DOD officials did not check all required intelligence databases.

 

The watchdog said "significant security concerns" included individuals whose latent fingerprints have been found on improvised explosive devices and known or suspected terrorists. Among the databases that weren't checked was the Defense Department's tactical terrorism data.

 

More than half of the flagged evacuees could not be immediately located inside the United States, further exacerbating fears.

 

"DHS' failure to use every database to screen for derogatory information has caused a serious breach of homeland security," Grassley, Portman and Inhofe wrote. "Accordingly, we request that you provide us with information about those evacuees flagged by DOD and steps the FBI has taken to adjudicate their derogatory information, including locating individuals currently within the United States.

 

"In addition, we would like to know how the FBI is addressing the counterterrorism threat posed by Afghan parolees that have not been screened by DHS against the tactical database."

Cardinal who called Catholic Church sex-abuse charges 'petty gossip' dies at 94

Cardinal Angelo Sodano, a controversial Vatican power broker for more than a quarter of a century who was accused of covering up one of the Catholic Church's most notorious sex abusers, has died at the age of 94.

Sodano, who had been ill for some time and died on Friday night, was secretary of state under two popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI holding the number two post in the Vatican hierarchy for 16 years between 1990 and 2006.

It was widely believed that Sodano, together with John Paul's secretary, then-Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz, ran the Church in the final years of the late pope's life as his health deteriorated from Parkinson's and other illnesses. John Paul died in 2005.

In a series of exposes in the National Catholic Reporter in 2010, author Jason Berry, a leading expert on the Church's sex abuse crisis, wrote how Sodano blocked the Vatican from investigating Father Marcial Maciel, disgraced founder of the Legion of Christ religious order.

After John Paul's death, Pope Benedict ramped up investigations of Maciel and removed him in 2006, when the Vatican acknowledged that allegations it had been brushed aside for decades were true.

The cult-like Legion of Christ order, whose rules forbade criticizing its founder or questioning his motives, later acknowledged that Maciel, who died in 2008, lived a double life as a paedophile, womanizer and drug addict.

Sodano several times denied allegations that he was aware of Maciel's double life and that he had covered up for him. Maciel, a conservative seen as a bulwark against liberalism in the Church, was known to have made generous financial gifts to the Vatican.

In 2010, four years after Pope Benedict replaced Sodano as secretary of state, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna accused Sodano of having blocked a full-scale investigation of former Austrian Cardinal Hans Hermann Groer.

Groer stepped down as archbishop of Vienna in 1995 after allegations that he had sexually abused young seminarians in the past. He died in 2003 never admitting guilt or facing charges.

Sodano also denied those accusations.

In 2010, victims of clergy sexual abuse condemned Sodano for saying at a public Easter address that abuse was mostly "petty gossip".

Ordained a priest in 1950, Sodano joined the diplomatic service several years later. He served in Vatican embassies in Ecuador, Uruguay, Chile before being called back to the Vatican for senior administrative roles, including the number two spot.

Vatican insiders have said that even after he retired, Sodano, who continued to live in the Vatican, exercised significant influence in the careers of Vatican officials for the remainder of Benedict's pontificate. Benedict resigned in 2013.

The schools decide which days your kids go to school and which days they don't. They control entire families, not just the kids. When is Spring Break? What days the kids get off and when they must attend. You need to plan your family vacations around the calendar that the Public School has designed.

First, we have to remind ourselves of what was going on in mathematics in the latter half of the nineteenth century, when Dodgson wrote his story. It was a turbulent period for mathematicians, with the subject rapidly becoming more abstract. Bayley describes him as a "stubbornly conservative mathematician," who was dismayed by what he saw as the declining standards of rigor. The new material Dodgson added to the Alice story for publication, she says, was a wicked satire on those new developments.

Perhaps the most obvious example is the Cheshire Cat, which disappears leaving only its grin, an obvious reference - critical in Dodgson's case - to increasing abstraction in the discipline.

 

For a more focused example, take the chapter "Advice from a caterpillar." Alice has fallen down the rabbit hole and eaten a cake that has shrunk her to a height of just 3 inches. The Caterpillar enters, smoking a hookah pipe, and shows Alice a mushroom that can restore her to her proper size. But one side of the mushroom stretches her neck, while another shrinks her torso, so she must eat exactly the right balance to regain her proper size and proportions. Bayley believes this expresses Dodgson's view of the absurdity of symbolic algebra.

 

The first clue, she says, may be the pipe. The word "hookah" is of Arabic origin, like "algebra". More to the point, the original Arabic term for algebra, widely known and used in the mathematical community in Dodgson's time, was al jebr e al mokabala or "restoration and reduction" - which exactly describes Alice's experience. Restoration was what brought Alice to the mushroom: she was looking for something to eat or drink to "grow to my right size again," and reduction was what actually happened when she ate some: she shrank so rapidly that her chin hit her foot.

 

Bayley suggests that the overall madness of Wonderland reflects Dodgson's views on the dangers of this new symbolic algebra. Alice has moved from a rational world to a land where even numbers behave erratically. In the hallway, she tries to remember her multiplication tables, but they have slipped out of the base-10 number system she is used to.

 

In the caterpillar scene, Alice's height fluctuates between 9 feet and 3 inches. Alice, bound by conventional arithmetic where a quantity such as size should be constant, finds this troubling: "Being so many different sizes in a day is very confusing," she complains. "It isn't," replies the Caterpillar, who lives in this absurd world.

 

The Caterpillar's warning, at the end of this scene, is perhaps one of the most telling clues to Dodgson's conservative mathematics, Bayley suggests. "Keep your temper," he announces. Alice presumes he's telling her not to get angry, but although he has been abrupt he has not been particularly irritable at this point, so it's a somewhat puzzling thing to say. But the word "temper" has another meaning of "the proportion in which qualities are mingled." So the Caterpillar could well be telling Alice to keep her body in proportion - no matter what her size. This may be another reflection of Dodgson's love of Euclidean geometry, where absolute magnitude doesn't matter: what's important is the ratio of one length to another. To survive in Wonderland, Alice must act like a Euclidean geometer, keeping her ratios constant, even if her size changes.

 

Of course, she doesn't. She swallows a piece of mushroom and her neck grows like a serpent with predictably chaotic results - until she balances her shape with a piece from the other side of the mushroom. This is an important precursor to the next chapter, "Pig and pepper", where Dodgson parodies another type of geometry. By this point, Alice has returned to her proper size and shape, but she shrinks herself down to enter a small house. There she finds the Duchess in her kitchen nursing her baby, while her Cook adds too much pepper to the soup, making everyone sneeze except the Cheshire Cat. But when the Duchess gives the baby to Alice, it turns into a pig.
