DHS Releases Bulletin Citing Concerns of ‘Heightened Threats,’ and Violent Months Ahead with Supreme Court Ruling and Midterms Approaching

On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a bulletin warning of a “heightened threat environment” over the next several months, stating they will monitor the risk of domestic terrorism within the U.S. to promote acts of violence.

“The United States remains in a heightened threat environment, as noted in the previous Bulletin, and several recent attacks have highlighted the dynamic and complex nature of the threat environment,” DHS said in the bulletin from the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS).

“In the coming months, we expect the threat environment to become more dynamic as several high-profile events could be exploited to justify acts of violence against a range of possible targets,” said DHS.

DHS noted potential targets of such violent acts, including “public gatherings, faith-based institutions, schools, racial and religious minorities, government facilities and personnel, U.S. critical infrastructure, the media, and perceived ideological opponents.”

World Bank issues grim economic forecast

The global economy is facing weak growth and high inflation, the report says

The World Bank (WB) has cut its global growth projection for this year from 4.1% to 2.9%, warning that many countries are likely to face recession.

“Amid the war in Ukraine, surging inflation, and rising interest rates, global economic growth is expected to slump in 2022,” the Tuesday press release said.

“Several years of above-average inflation and below-average growth are now likely, with potentially destabilizing consequences for low- and middle-income economies. It’s a phenomenon – stagflation – that the world has not seen since the 1970s.”

According to WB President David Malpass, “for many countries, recession will be hard to avoid.”

The institution said that after halving from 5.7% in 2021, growth would be stuck at 3% in both 2023 and 2024 as the Russia-Ukraine conflict affected investment and trade, the pent-up demand from the pandemic faded, and policy support was withdrawn.

The report highlighted that the slowdown in growth between 2021 and 2024 was on course to be twice that of the period between 1976 and 1979. The recovery from the stagflation of the 1970s required steep increases in interest rates in the West, it said. Those “played a prominent role in triggering a string of financial crises in emerging market and developing economies.”

According to the report, both rich and poor countries would be hit by the growth slowdown, but developing and emerging market economies are the most vulnerable. Growth in advanced economies was forecast to decline from 5.1% to 2.6% this year, while in emerging and developing countries it is expected to drop from 6.6% to 3.4%.

“Just over two years after Covid-19 caused the deepest global recession since World War II, the world economy is again in danger … Even if a global recession is averted, the pain of stagflation could persist for several years – unless major supply increases are set in motion,” said the report.

YouTube deletes Post interview with judge’s son who stormed Capitol, citing ‘misinformation’

Ahead of a primetime congressional hearing on last year’s Capitol riot, YouTube on Monday deleted The Post’s widely circulated interview with fur-clad rioter Aaron Mostofsky — saying the Brooklyn judge’s son spouted “misinformation.”

The Justice Department cited the interview in its case against Mostofsky, 35, who was sentenced to eight months behind bars last month for his role in the riot. It was one of the only professional interviews conducted inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as a wild mob of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters disrupted the certification of the 2020 election.

“We realize this may be disappointing news, but it’s our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all,” the Google-owned platform said in a Monday night notice of removal.

“Content that advances false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches changed the outcome of the US 2020 presidential election is not allowed on YouTube.”

The policy on election-related claims appears to be unevenly enforced. For example, footage remains available on YouTube of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claiming that the 2016 election was “stolen” and that Trump was an “illegitimate president.”

The interview with Mostofsky, published 17 months ago to the personal channel of a Post reporter, was clearly labeled as a journalistic product and the description field specified that the interview was with The Post, with a link to the newspaper’s reporting.

Footage from the riot featured prominently in the 2021 Senate impeachment trial of Trump for allegedly inciting the violence, and it may again feature in the Thursday primetime hearing put on by the Democrat-led House select committee investigating the mayhem.

Mostofsky, the son of Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Steven Mostofsky, was wearing a police vest and holding a riot shield outside the Senate chamber when he agreed to be interviewed.

He was among the first wave of rioters to breach the building, which sent Vice President Mike Pence, legislators and most journalists fleeing to secure locations.

Mostofsky, standing feet from the main doorway to the Senate, claimed he “found” the police supplies he was wearing and that he joined the mob because the election was “stolen.”

Prosecutors later revealed that he wore his bizarre fur-pelt costume to demonstrate that “even a caveman knows [the election] was stolen.”

“Can you tell me what you’re doing here today?” the interview begins.

“Well, to express my opinion as a free American, my belief that this election was stolen. We were cheated. I don’t think 75 million people voted for Trump, I think it was close to 85 million. I think certain states that had been blue for a long time had been red and were stolen like New York,” Mostofsky said.

“And where did you travel from?” The Post asked.

“Brooklyn,” Mostofsky said.

“Can you tell me anything about the shield here?” The Post followed up.

“The shield? Found it on the floor. I found a cap and I gave it to the cops because it may be someone’s personal thing. This [shield], I have no idea. There’s no name. They probably just grab it. Looks like it’s been used a lot,” the rioter said.

“Should senators be afraid? Should House members be afraid?” The Post asked as Mostofsky’s compatriots smashed up the historic building.

Kid Rock tells Tucker Carlson that he stands by his drunken, anti-Oprah rant: 'F*** Oprah!'

Kid Rock told Fox News' Tucker Carlson that he won't apologize for a drunken rant in which he blasted Oprah Winfrey and more.

The musician made headlines after blasting Winfrey and "View" co-host Joy Behar during a 2019 appearance at his Nashville, Tennessee, music club, during which he said "F Oprah Winfrey" and "F Joy Behar."

What are the details?

During a sit-down with the Fox anchor's "Carlson Originals," the rocker — real name Robert James Ritchie — said that he stands by his thoughts.

"A drunk man’s words are a sober man’s thoughts, I own what I said," he told Carlson. "I don’t apologize to anybody. I’m not an Oprah Winfrey fan. I got drunk and fin’ next thing, I’m on stage [saying] f Oprah."

"I’m not in bed with any big corporate things," he said at the time. "At the end of the day, there’s nobody I’m beholden to — no record companies, no corporate interests, no nothing. You can’t cancel me. I love it when they try."

Praise for Trump

He also praised former President Donald Turmp and compared his speeches to that of President Joe Biden.

"If you watch a Joe Biden interview and you watch a Trump interview, you’re just like … ‘There's no comparison.’ And Trump, yeah, he speaks off the cuff, I understand what it’s like," he explained. "Sometimes you get it wrong … you know this that and the other. But I would way rather hear somebody come from here [touches chest] and get it wrong once in a while than see this contrived … pretty much every politician until he came along at some level everything was scripted.”

Zelensky ‘Very Happy’ Boris Johnson Survived No-Confidence Vote

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he is ‘very happy’ that Boris Johnson managed to survive a vote of no confidence on Monday, describing the Prime Minister as a “true friend of Ukraine”.

While some Britons may lament their Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, having survived an assault on his leadership of the governing Conservative party, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has meanwhile expressed his delight that Johnson’s premiership has lived to see another day.

Euphemistically referred to at points as “big dog” within the Tory party, at points yesterday it looked like Johnson’s goose may have indeed been cooked as Conservative party rebels aimed to oust the PM with a vote of no confidence.

However, Johnson appears to have survived last night’s political hit job — for now, given it remains to be seen whether the challenge will have other consequences — thanks to a majority of Tory MPs voting to keep him at the helm, a fact that Volodymyr Zelensky is extremely pleased about.

“I am very happy about it,” the Ukrainian President said. “I am happy that because I think that Boris Johnson is a true friend of Ukraine. I regard him as our ally. I think that Great Britain is our great ally.”

Zelensky’s position on Boris Johnson, despite Johnson’s domestic policy failings: the UK government has repeatedly backed the Ukrainian war effort, with the Prime Minister himself even visiting the war-torn nation relatively early on in the conflict to show his support.

The Johnson administration has also not been shy about sending munitions to Ukraine, shipping billions of pounds worth of weapons and munitions to the eastern European state.

“I want to be frank with you — Boris is supporting us, Boris is very concrete in supporting Ukraine,” Zelensky said, emphasising that he was grateful MPs had decided to keep Johnson in power.

“I am glad that we have not lost a very important ally, this is great news,” he went on to say.

Great Reset: State Planning Harsh COVID-Style Lockdown in Event of Fuel Shortage – Leak

The Irish state is planning on reimplementing harsh COVID-style lockdown rules should the Ukraine crisis cause a major fuel shortage.

The Europhile government of Ireland is planning a return to draconian COVID-style lockdowns should a fuel shortage arise out of the ongoing Ukraine crisis, a leak revealed to the public on Monday has claimed.

It comes as ongoing hostilities between Russia and the West over Vladimir Putin’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine put severe pressure on the supply of fossil fuels worldwide, with climate crazy protesters in Europe also sometimes contributing to more local shortages by blocking essential oil infrastructure.

According to leaks described by the Irish Independent, officials have wargamed implementing compulsory work from home orders for non-essential workers, limits on so-called “non-essential” travel and strict speed limits on highways should the supply of diesel dry up as part of what has been described as a confidential “high-level planning exercise”.

Fuel rationing and a limiting of when certain vehicles can be filled at gas stations were also reportedly discussed at the secretive meeting, with delegates at the event being asked to plan for three different fuel-shortage scenarios of various severity.

Speaking on the event, the head of one of the organisations present at the meeting said that, while there is supposedly little chance of any serious fuel shortages occurring as a result of ongoing international tensions to do with Ukraine, planning for a possible fuel shortage in the future is “prudent”.

“While it remains highly unlikely that we will experience a reduced supply of fuel, it is prudent that we and Government engage in emergency planning,” Fuels for Ireland CEO Kevin McPartlan is reported as saying, while also emphasising that Ireland’s “stock levels are very healthy” at the moment.

May Migrant Apprehensions Hit 220K — Breaks Clinton Era Record

Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 220,000 migrants along the U.S.-Mexico Border in May, setting a record dating back to the Clinton era. Since March 1, agents apprehended more than 633,000 migrants along the southwest border.

A leaked Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas reveals that agents apprehended more than 220,000 migrants who illegally entered the U.S. through the southwest border during the month of May. Border Patrol records dating back to the Clinton administration show this sets a record for May apprehensions.

Official reports from U.S. Customs and Border Protection show the apprehension of 210,749 in March and 201,800 for April. Adding in the unofficial report of more than 220,000 brings the three-month total to more than 633,137. The combined reports also reveal that since the beginning of the fiscal year, October 1, 2021, agents apprehended more than 1.4 million migrants in eight months.

News reports indicate a record migrant caravan of 10,000 to 15,000 left southern Mexico on Monday to head to the U.S., Breitbart Texas reported. A group of approximately 9,500 crossed the border between Guatemala and Mexico with plans to head to the United States, an organizer of the group told Fox News. The group consists mainly of migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector remains the busiest of the nine southwest border sectors. These agents apprehended approximately 45,000 migrants. This is followed closely by more than 44,000 apprehended in the Del Rio Sector. The El Paso and Yuma Sectors account for another 67,000 migrants.

During the Memorial Day weekend, Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens reported that his agents apprehended nearly 4,000 of the sector’s May total of 44,000. He also reported 1,600 more migrants got away without being apprehended, Breitbart Texas reported.

Following the record April apprehensions, CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus stated, “The fact is that our borders are not open, and we will continue to remove those who enter our country unlawfully and have no legal basis to stay.”

“After many months of planning, we are executing a comprehensive strategy to safely, orderly, and humanely manage our borders,” Magnus added.

In reality, the southwest border with Mexico is anything but safe, orderly, and humane as nearly two dozen migrants drowned in the Del Rio Border Patrol in April. Video reports from Eagle Pass and the Rio Grande Valley continue to show migrants crossing at will. Other reports show the inhumane and life-threatening circumstances that take place in human smuggling operations along the border.

The administration’s plans appear to focus on increasing the speed at which migrants are processed and released into the U.S.

German Minister wants COVID-19 Protesters Classified as ‘Right-Wing Extremists’

The interior minister of one German state has openly advocated for anti-lockdown protesters to be classified as “right-wing extremists”.

Georg Maier, the left-wing interior minister of the German state of Thuringia, has said that he wants to see all COVID-19 protesters in the country classified as “right-wing extremists”.

The leftist minister’s comments come shortly after the release of a report by Germany’s “Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution”, which has claimed that such “right-wing extremism” remains the biggest threat to the state.

According to a report by Der Spiegel, Maier has demanded that the country’s “lateral thinker” population — a term commonly used in Germany to refer to those who disagree with the country’s draconian lockdown rules — should all be labelled as “right-wing extremists”.

Such a characterisation could see lockdown sceptics come under even more pressure from the state, up to and including covert surveillance if the nation’s treatment of the populist Alternative für Deutschland is in any way representative.

“We have to tighten up the classification of politically organized crime, especially with the corona deniers,” the publication reports the minister as saying.

Maier also demanded that-called “Reich citizens” — people who supposedly reject the legitimacy of the current Federal Republic — receive the same treatment, with the state already having targetted those deemed to be associated with the movement.

This recently included one retired teacher in the west of the country who had her pension stripped over her “critical democrat” political views, while a former police officer in Bavaria received similar treatment.

Suicidality Among Transgender Youth: Elucidating the Role of Interpersonal Risk Factors

Abstract

Data indicate that 82% of transgender individuals have considered killing themselves and 40% have attempted suicide, with suicidality highest among transgender youth.Using minority stress theory and the interpersonal theory of suicide, this study aims to better understand suicide risk among transgender youth. The present study examines the influence of intervenable risk factors: interpersonal and environmental microaggressions, internalized self-stigma, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and protective factors: school belonging, family support, and peer support on both lifetime suicide attempts and past 6-month suicidality in a sample of transgender youth (n = 372). SPSS 22 was utilized to examine the impact of the independent variables on both suicidality and lifetime suicide attempt through two separate logistic regressions. Fifty six percent of youth reported a previous suicide attempt and 86% reported suicidality. Logistic regressions indicated that models for both lifetime suicide attempts and suicidality were significant. Interpersonal microaggressions, made a unique, statistically significant contribution to lifetime suicide attempts and emotional neglect by family approached significance. School belonging, emotional neglect by family, and internalized self-stigma made a unique, statistically significant contribution to past 6-month suicidality. Results have significant practice and policy implications. Findings offer guidance for practitioners working with parents and caregivers of trans youth, as well as, for the creation of practices which foster interpersonal belonging for transgender youth.

Suicide Among Transgender and Gender-Nonconforming People

ABSTRACT

Suicide rates are higher in those who identify as transgender or gender nonconforming (TGNC) compared to the overall population. Suicide risk factors include discrimination, family rejection, internalized transphobia, and being denied appropriate bathroom or housing access. It is important to assess the risk of suicide among transgender and gender-nonconforming patients and discuss past experiences of prejudice or maltreatment to prevent further victimization. This narrative review includes the most pertinent literature from the past 17 years on issues related to suicide among individuals who identify as TGNC.

UK Joins US In Sending Longer-Range Rockets To Ukraine Despite Putin Warnings

Britain is joining the US is supplying longer range rockets to Ukraine, despite fresh threats from Russia's president Vladimir Putin who says he is ready to expand strikes to 'decision-making centers' if these escalations from the West continue.

The Guardian is reporting Monday that "The UK will send a handful of tracked M270 multiple launch rocket systems, which can hit targets up to 50 miles away, in the hope they can disrupt the concentrated Russian artillery that has been pounding cities in eastern Ukraine."

The announcement comes as there's widespread acknowledgement that the tide of war is changing particularly in the east, where Russian forces are now making steady gains over the Donbas, with the Ukrainians saying they are suffering chronic supply shortages, including ammo and weapons.

In what appears a reference to the situation in the Donbas and the south, UK defence secretary Ben Wallace said the move to ship longer range rocket launchers is justified "as Russia’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine." However, he didn't speculate over Russia's potential response.

"As Russia’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine. These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities," Wallace said.

Putin made weekend statements vowing further retaliation if the US proceeds with its HIMAR and MLRS rocket systems delivery. On Sunday five Russian cruise missiles slammed into the Ukrainian capital of Kiev - which was the first time the capital came under Russian fire in over a month. Russia said it targeted a depot that contained Western-supplied tanks - something which Ukraine denied.

Like the Biden administration before, the UK government is attempting to assure that the fresh rocket transfer will not be used to strike within Russian territory:

A British defence source said the weapons will be used "to defend Ukraine, in Ukraine". They added: "We have confidence that the weapons will be used appropriately."

A UK defense ministry statement indicated the new rocket systems will be 'gifted' to Ukraine, and that training of the Ukrainian personnel on the weapons will take place on British soil.

Fall Of High-Level Party Official Who Faked Economic Data Triggers Concern Over China's Economy

China’s top disciplinary watchdog announced on May 31 that it has removed a former top official in eastern Jiangsu Province from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the regime’s public office.

Zhang Jinghua, former deputy CCP chief of Jiangsu, was accused of “faking economic figures for personal promotion and meddling in market activities in violation of relevant rules,” among other charges of corruption, according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) in a notice on May 31. It did not provide any specifics for the accusation.

Zhang is one of the most recent CCP members of the 19th central committee—the CCP’s top governing body—to fall.

One day prior, China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) held a virtual meeting in which its director, Kang Yi, said that the problem of statistical falsification still exists in China.

On May 27, the NBS stated that 126 lower-level officials in Hebei, Henan, and Guizhou provinces had been punished for fabricating statistical data.

This wave of purging data fabrication began in March when the CCDI wrote on its website that some local officials had falsified data to create an illusion of development and manipulated statistical data by “reminding” and ordering relevant departments to make the necessary changes.

Foreign investment banks have already cut their China growth forecasts after the regime’s COVID-19 lockdowns hit the economy of Shanghai hard, with Nomura predicting growth of 3.9 percent.

Israeli Jets Strike Suburb South of Syria’s Capital off Damascus

State media: Air defenses intercept most of missiles fired

The latest round of Israeli attacks on Syria saw fighter jets firing a flurry of missiles at Damascus. The missiles hit the suburb of al-Kiswah, though state media reported a vast majority were intercepted by air defenses.

Its not clear what sites were targeted, though Israeli press claimed Kiswah has some Iranian militia sites therein. The strikes did some physical damage, but there is no word yet of casualties.

This is not unusual for Israeli attacks in Syria, as the Syrians have substantial air defenses, and strikes tend to target warehouses and the like, not heavily populated areas.

Nominally these Israeli attacks are aimed at Iran, and therefore anything they hit in Syria gets spun as Iran-linked, even if often they are just Shi’ite militias.

This including purchases of options to buy up between $750,000 and $1.5 million shares in Apple and up to $600,000 in Microsoft

The disclosure of call options from her husband, Paul Pelosi, comes the week after he was arrested for drunk driving and charged with a DUI

Speaker Pelosi changed her tune on stocks months ago when saying she would support regulation on lawmakers' trading activity

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi disclosed new stock market trades on Monday, showing purchases of options to buy between $750,000 and $1.5 million shares of Apple Inc and hundreds of thousands in Microsoft Corp.

In a periodic transaction report signed last Friday and appearing on the House of Representatives' website on Monday, the California Democrat disclosed that her husband, financier Paul Pelosi, on May 13 bought Apple call options for between $500,001 and $1 million.

On May 24, he bought more Apple call options, in an amount between $250,001 and $500,000, the disclosure shows.

Users on social media platforms including Twitter, Reddit, Youtube and TikTok have scrutinized Pelosi's trade disclosures in recent months, believing her position as House Speaker gives her and her husband an edge.

The disclosure also comes just a week after the congresswoman's husband was arrested for drunk driving and charged with a DUI.

Family of Bill Clinton advisor who admitted Jeffrey Epstein into White House seven times has blocked release of files detailing the death scene after he was found hanging from a tree with a shotgun blast at a ranch 30 miles from his home

Top Clinton advisor Mark Middleton died by suicide at the age of 59 on May 7, the Perry County Sheriff's Office in Arkansas confirmed

Middleton was President Bill Clinton's special advisor who admitted Jeffrey Epstein to the White House seven of the at least 17 times the pedophile visited

The married father-of-two, who lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, shot himself at the Heifer Ranch in Perryville, 30 miles away from his home

DailyMail.com can now reveal Middleton's father Larry and his widow Rhea are fighting to keep photos and 'other illustrative content' of his death sealed

The two filed for an injunction arguing that blocking the release of the footage would halt a proliferation of 'unsubstantiated conspiracy theories'

The lawsuit claims the family 'has been harassed by outlandish, hurtful, unsupported and offensive online articles' regarding Middleton and his death

Perry County Sheriff Scott Montgomery said Middleton was discovered hanging from a tree with a shotgun blast to his chest

After the petition was filed, Montgomery denied DailyMail.com's FOIA request for any of his paperwork on the case

The family of a top advisor to Bill Clinton who admitted Jeffrey Epstein to the White House multiple times during his presidency is pulling out all the stops to keep details of his mysterious death becoming public.

They have petitioned a judge to prevent pictures of Mark Middleton's death scene being released under the Freedom of Information Act.

And now the local Arkansas sheriff is interpreting that to mean he can't talk or release any details of Middleton's May 7 suicide.

'The investigation is still open. I can't say anything more,' Perry County Sheriff Scott Montgomery told DailyMail.com.

Middleton, who served as special assistant to President Bill Clinton in the 1990s, died at the age of 59, his family announced last month.

Judicial Watch: Court Orders FBI To Provide Details on Officials Listed in Strzok Memo That Opened Spy Operation Against Trump

Judicial Watch announced today that a federal court has ordered the FBI to disclose additional details about FBI and other officials “cc-ed” on the memo used to justify launching the “Crossfire Hurricane” spy operation against President Trump and his 2016 presidential campaign. Judge Carl J. Nichols has given the FBI until June 16, 2022 to respond. The order comes in a September 2019 FOIA lawsuit Judicial Watch filed after the FBI failed to respond to a request for the memo, known as an “Electronic Communication” or “EC.” (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-02743)).

In May 2020, Judicial Watch obtained a redacted version of the previously secret memo, authored by former FBI agent Peter Strzok. The Biden Justice Department argued that there is no significant public interest in disclosing the names of officials “cc-ed” on the memo.

Judicial Watch filed a motion countering that claim and arguing that the public had a significant interest in knowing who at the FBI had knowledge of the memo and presumably approved the investigation.

The court held a hearing on the dispute in September 2021, and on May 2, 2022 issued a minute order requiring the FBI to file

a supplemental memorandum of up to 5 pages, supported by affidavit or declaration, explaining the positions and seniority held by any persons whose names are redacted from the “CC:” section of the document.

“The Biden administration is still covering up who was involved in the Obama administration’s unprecedented and illicit spying on Donald J. Trump,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “This court decision is another step forward in accountability for the worst government corruption scandal in American history.”

In support of its position, Judicial Watch provided the Court with two declarations by Kevin Brock, former assistant director of the Directorate of Intelligence and former FBI principal deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Brock testified that it is not standard procedure to have an EC drafted, approved, and sent to and from a single agent and that doing so violates FBI oversight protocols:

In the EC document here, the “From” line indicates the EC – and authorization to begin an investigation as required under FBI policy – is from a part of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. The contact listed is Peter Strzok. The EC was drafted by Peter Strzok. The EC was approved by Peter Strzok. On the face of the document produced, it appears the EC that initiated a criminal FARA investigation of unidentified members of the Trump presidential campaign was created by Peter Strzok, approved by Peter Strzok, and sent from Peter Strzok to Peter Strzok. This is not usual procedure.

FBI policy prohibits an agent from initiating and approving his or her own case. Such action violates FBI oversight protocols put in place to protect the American people from an FBI agent acting unilaterally.

WEF: Metaverse Will Be “More Meaningful to Us Than Our Physical Lives”

The World Economic Forum (WEF) and major corporations, following talks at last month’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, launched a new initiative: “Defining and Building the Metaverse.”

As the initiative’s name implies, its stakeholders are still in the process of defining exactly what the term “metaverse” means.

However, according to the WEF, in part, the metaverse involves a moment “at which our digital lives — our online identities, experiences, relationships, and assets — become more meaningful to us than our physical lives.”

One person involved in the talks, Julia Goldin, LEGO’s chief product & marketing officer, expressed optimism about how the metaverse could aid in children’s development:

“To us, the priority is to help create a world in which we can give kids all the benefits of the metaverse — one with immersive experiences, creativity and self-expression at its core — in a way that is also safe, protects their rights and promotes their well-being.”

While the talks focused somewhat on how to definitively define the term “metaverse,” there was also a great deal of focus on who should be involved in — and potentially profit from — its development.

Those involved in the talks positioned themselves to “develop and share actionable strategies for creating and governing” an “interoperable and safe” metaverse.

There also were extensive discussions on providing “guidance on how to create an ethical and inclusive metaverse, engaging organizations across the private and public sectors, including business, civil society, academia and regulators.”

The WEF described the initiative as “bringing together leading voices from the private sector, civil society, academia and policy” to “define the parameters” of the metaverse’s future development.

A May 25 session — “Shaping a Shared Future: Making the Metaverse” — included the following panelists:

Chris Cox, chief product officer of Facebook’s parent company, Meta.

Peggy Johnson, CEO of Magic Leap, described by the WEF as “a spatial computing company building the next computing platform.”

Philip Rosedale, founder of Linden Lab, which developed the “Second Life” virtual world, acquired in April by Meta.

Andrew R. Sorkin, financial columnist for The New York Times and co-anchor of CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

Omar Sultan Al Olama, minister of state for artificial intelligence in the United Arab Emirates, appointed in 2017.

Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs who was formerly deputy prime minister of the U.K., said the “multistakeholder initiative” aims to assume a leading role in establishing and shaping the metaverse.
