Exclusive: The Inspector General Missed Yet Another Lie From The FBIBY: MARGOT CLEVELAND

Left-leaning politicians and the press spent more than three years pushing the Russia collusion hoax. Yet, following the inspector general’s release of his 478-page report on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse, after making quick mention of the top-line findings, the media moved on. As a result, much has been missed, including one significant misrepresentation contained in all four of the Carter Page FISA applications—an inaccuracy even the IG’s team overlooked.

Two passages, separated by more than 50 pages, when read together reveal an eighth significant inaccuracy and omission from the first FISA application, and one repeated in the later three renewals: Steele’s sources and sub-sources were not ones he used or developed during his time with the British intelligence service MI6, contrary to the impression created in the FISA applications.

 

This detail was dropped in a footnote in the IG report, following this text: “Steele told us he had a source network in place with a proven ‘track record’ that could deliver on Fusion GPS’s requirements. Steele added that this source network previously had furnished intelligence on Russian interference in European affairs.”

 

The relevant footnote, footnote 214, then read: “Steele told us that this source network did not involve sources from his time as a [redacted] and was developed entirely in the period after he retired from government service.” The redacted language undoubtedly referred to Steele’s British intelligence work.

That Steele’s “source network did not involve sources from his time” with British intelligence proves extremely significant when considered in tandem with the details the IG provided about the FISA application process in general, and the specifics of the Page FISA applications.

 

The IG report began with a general description of the FISA process, explaining that a proposed application, typically referred to as a “read copy,” is presented to the FISA court. Then the FISA court “will review the read copy, evaluate whether it meets the requirements of the statute, and, through a legal advisor, discuss with the assigned attorney, any issues the legal advisor or judge identified.” This process, the IG noted, “allows FISC legal advisors to have informal interaction with [the National Security Division’s Office of Intelligence], to convey any questions, concerns, or requests for additional information from the legal advisor or judge before a final application is filed.”

 

In the Page case, the first read copy submitted to the FISA court “contained a description of the source network that included the fact that Steele relied upon a Primary Sub-source who used a network of sub-sources, and that neither Steele nor the Primary Sub-source had direct access to the information being reported.” The read copy “also contained a separate footnote on each sub-source with a brief description of his/her position or access to the information he/she was reporting.”

 

In response to the read copy, the FISA court’s “legal advisor asked how it was that Steele had a network of sub-sources.” After the Office of Intelligence (OI) attorney “provided additional information to him regarding Steele’s past employment history,” the legal advisor requested that additional information be included in the final application.

The final version of the October 2016 FISA application included the requested description, which again remains redacted, but surely concerns Steele’s prior spy work for the United Kingdom.

But, as highlighted above, the source network Steele relied upon to craft his dossier was not developed or used during his previous life as a British intelligence agent. By stressing Steele’s prior work with MI6 in response to the legal advisor’s questioning of Steele’s network of sources, the DOJ created the false impression that the network of sources that Steele used and relied upon for his dossier were also used and relied upon by the British government.

 

That the legal advisor not only raised the question about Steele’s access to a network of sources, but then insisted that the FISA application be updated to include information concerning Steele’s prior government position, shows the FISA court placed great significance on Steele’s previous British intelligence work for purposes of assessing the reliability of his source network.

 

The DOJ’s failure to inform the FISA court that Steele’s sources and sub-sources were privately acquired—or the FBI’s failure to inquire of these facts in light of the FISA court’s query—is yet another significant inaccuracy and omission in the FISA applications.

While holding firm in its promise to prosecute Jan. 6 offenders to the max, the U.S. Justice Department made a curious move last week. It withdrew its own plea deal with two lawyers accused of using Molotov cocktails in 2020 during George Floyd protests in New York City and allowed the defendants to plea to different charges that carried less prison time.

 

The rare reversal by DOJ in the case of attorneys Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman in federal court in New York stunned some legal watchers and added to a pattern of recent cases that some see as evidence of a two-tier system of justice.

 

The argument first surfaced among conservatives during the Russia collusion scandal when a defendant like Trump National Security Advisor Mike Flynn was pressured to plead guilty to lying to the FBI while the bureau's then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was allowed to escape any punishment for allegedly lying during an internal investigation. McCabe even got the pension he was stripped of restored.

Why Handwritten FBI Notes The Special Counsel Just Released Are Huge

Part 1 of 3

Recently released handwritten notes from a briefing of the acting attorney general on the status of Crossfire Hurricane reveal the FBI either lied about the source of intel or the British intelligence community fed information to the U.S. agents investigating Donald Trump and his associates.

 

As part of the pre-trial discovery in the government’s prosecution of former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann, the special counsel provided defense lawyers notes taken on March 6, 2017, during a high-level briefing of acting Attorney General Dana Boente about the then-ongoing investigation into supposed Russia collusion.

 

Boente, who held oversight of the DOJ and FBI related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation because of then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal, received an update during the meeting from the FBI’s then-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, then-assistant director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division Bill Priestap, and Counterintelligence Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok. DOJ officials Tashina Gauhar, Mary McCord, and Scott Schools took notes during the briefing, and those notes became public during the Sussmann trial that ended in an acquittal last week.

 

Soon after the release of the notes, Hans Mahncke and Stephen McIntyre detailed for The Federalist, several passages that indicated the FBI had lied to the DOJ during the March 6, 2017 meeting in numerous ways. From the cryptic notes, Mahncke and McIntyre deciphered and exposed several significant false storylines sold to the acting attorney general, making their article a must-read.

 

While any lies, misrepresentations, or material omissions matter—or should, especially when told to the acting attorney general related to an investigation connected to the president of the United States, the note’s references to “CROWN reporting” prove particularly significant because of the FISA court’s insistence that the DOJ included Christopher Steele’s background as an MI6 agent in the FISA application prior to the secret surveillance court issuing an order to surveil Carter Page.

 

The phrase “CROWN Reporting” appeared multiple times in one set of handwritten notes taken during McCabe, Priestap, and Strzok’s March 6, 2017, FBI briefing of the DOJ and Acting Attorney General Boente. Next to “CROWN Reporting,” the notes referenced “convention,” Crimea” and “NATO” and “soften stance for exchange of Russian energy stocks.” These notations fell under the header of points related to Manafort.

 

A second reference to “CROWN source reporting” came during the FBI’s briefing of Boente concerning the investigation of Carter Page, with the notation following the general discussion of Page.

 

Huge Implications No Matter the Source

 

The notes do not elaborate on the “CROWN source” or who provided the “CROWN source reporting.” There are two possibilities, both of which have huge implications for the ongoing special counsel investigation.

 

First, the claimed “CROWN source” could be former MI6 spy Steele. To date, Steele remains the only person with a connection to British intelligence publicly known to have provided the FBI with information related to Trump and individuals connected to Trump during the Russia collusion investigation.

 

But if by “CROWN source” the FBI meant Steele, the individual briefing Boente lied to him in several ways, did so in a material way, and there is likely a paper trail that can confirm an earlier, similar lie by FBI agents…

While Steele had at one time served in the British intelligence service, his MI6 status ended long ago, when he retired in 2009to start the private intelligence service Orbis Business Intelligence. Further, as the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General (OIG) reported more than two years ago, Steele told the OIG that the source network he used to compile the memoranda, referred to colloquially as the Steele dossier, did not involve sources from his time as an MI6 agent. On the contrary, his sources were “developed entirely in the period after he retired from government service.”

 

So not only was Steele not a “CROWN source,” his supposed “intel” also lacked any connection to “Crown Source Reporting.” Accordingly, unless the FBI had a still publicly unknown “CROWN source” who provided the information on which agents briefed the DOJ during the March 6, 2017 meeting, they lied to the DOJ.

 

If They Lied, It Really Matters

 

Falsely attributing “intel” to a “CROWN source” proves significant, and not merely for Boente’s oversight of Crossfire Hurricane, but also for Boente’s decision to approve the third application to surveil Page under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). And the DOJ’s representation of a connection between Steele and British intelligence in the FISA applications appeared dispositive to the FISA court’s decision to authorize surveillance of Page.

 

Two little-noticed passages, separated by some 50 pages in the OIG’s 478-page report on FISA abuse, revealed the importance the FISA court put on Steele’s connection to British intelligence in ordering surveillance of Page. According to the OIG, before filing its official FISA application, the DOJ submitted a “read copy” to the FISA court to obtain feedback from the FISA court’s legal advisor on whether the application met the statutory requirements and on any issues of concern raised by the legal advisor or the FISA judge handling the application.

 

In the first read copy submitted to the FISA court related to Page, the application “contained a description of the source network that included the fact that Steele relied upon a Primary Sub-source who used a network of sub-sources, and that neither Steele nor the Primary Sub-source had direct access to the information being reported.” The draft application “also contained a separate footnote on each sub-source with a brief description of his/her position or access to the information he/she was reporting.”

 

After reviewing the read copy, the FISA court’s “legal advisor asked how it was that Steele had a network of sub-sources.” In response, the government’s Office of Intelligence (OI) attorney “provided additional information to him regarding Steele’s past employment history.”

 

The FISA court’s legal advisor then requested that additional information be included in the final application, resulting in the final version of the October 2016 FISA application including a footnote detailing Steele’s prior work for British intelligence. The FISA court granted the revised FISA application, ordering surveillance of Page to begin in October 2016. The FISA court renewed the surveillance order three additional times, once in December, again in March, when Boente signed the application, and finally on June 29, 2022, when Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein signed the final FISA application.

 

All of the applications referenced Steele’s past service in British intelligence, but, as noted above, Steele’s source network was unrelated to his government work and came entirely from his private work. Given that the FISA court’s legal advisor questioned “how it was that Steele had a network of sub-sources,” and that the advisor directed the OI attorney to expressly include Steele’s previous work as an MI6 agent in the application, the FISA court clearly believed Steele’s network of sources came from his time as a British agent.

 

Further, given the significance the FISA court placed on that fact, it seems likely the FISA court would have denied the surveillance order had it been told the truth—that Steele’s network of sources had been privately acquired.

FBI Liars Could Still Be Held Accountable

The FBI’s representation during the March 6, 2017 meeting that the supposed intel related to Manafort and Page came from “CROWN sources,”—again, assuming the agent meant Steele—suggests the Crossfire Hurricane team deceived the DOJ from the beginning, resulting in the OI attorney representing to the FISA court that Steele’s network of sources were sources used by British intelligence. That deception also likely affected Boente’s decision to sign the second renewal application.

 

While these events occurred more than five years ago, and a five-year statute of limitations governs false statement offenses, the D.C. Circuit has held that if a defendant engages in a scheme “to falisf[y], conceal[], or cover[]up” material facts, the limitations period does not begin to run until the scheme ends.

 

In this case, then, any FBI agents involved in concealing from the DOJ during the final preparation and review of the June 29, 2017, FISA application that Steele’s sources were not “CROWN sources” or connected to his work in British intelligence could still face criminal liability.

 

Go Get ‘Em, Durham

 

Further, while the Sussmann trial proved memories fail—sometimes conveniently—uncovering the individuals responsible for representing Steele’s source network as connected to his past life as an MI6 agent seems a relatively straightforward venture given what we learned from the special counsel’s conviction of Kevin Clinesmith.

 

Clinesmith pleaded guilty nearly two years ago to altering an email related to Page to make it appear that Page “was not a source” for the CIA. Clinesmith’s undoing came from the fact that in preparing the FISA application and renewals, the various government actors used email to confirm details, including with Clinesmith.

 

The OIG report on FISA abuse detailed that process, noting there were many “back-and-forth exchange[s]” “between the OI Attorney and the FBI, during which the OI Attorney asked many questions about Page, as well as about Steele’s reporting and the structure and access of his source network.” “To further address reliability, the OI Attorney sought information from the FBI to describe the source network in the FISA application,” according to the OIG report. And that information-gathering process included email exchanges and written summaries of briefings.

 

Either that briefing left the OI attorney with the impression that Steele’s source network came from his MI6 work, or after the FISA court legal advisor asked, “how it was that Steele had a network of sub-sources,” the OI attorney pushed the FBI for more information. If the latter, emails likely memorialize the exchanges.

 

Whether the FBI agents affirmatively misrepresented Steele’s source network as connected to his British intelligence work in their communiques with the OI attorney, and in turn the OI attorney relayed that information to the FISA court, is unknown to us, but hopefully not to Special Counsel Durham.

 

Even if no one lied to the OI attorney and he merely assumed Steele’s source network carried over from his time with MI6, a misrepresentation to Boente during the March 6, 2017, briefing that Steele was a “CROWN source” still matters because the FISA surveillance orders were renewed two more times after that meeting.

 

That, of course, is assuming the FBI meant Steele when they referenced a “CROWN source”—something not entirely clear. More on that shortly.

Former BlackRock executive Edward Dowd thinks the coming midterm elections in November may get cancelled.

Twelfth Defendant Sentenced in Dog-Fighting, Drug Distribution Ring

The Criminal Organization Involved Dog-Fighting and Cocaine Distribution in Three States

The final defendant prosecuted as part of an extensive investigation into a dog-fighting and cocaine distribution network spanning three states was sentenced for his crimes in federal court today.

 

Shelley Johnson aka Gold Mouth, 40, of Macon, Georgia, was sentenced to 37 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $25,000 fine by U.S. District Judge Tilman E. “Tripp” Self III after he previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to participate in an animal fighting venture. As a condition of his supervised release, Johnson is prohibited from owning or possessing dogs. There is no parole in the federal system.

 

According to court documents, law enforcement investigated a criminal organization involved in both cocaine distribution and organized dog fighting based out of Roberta, Georgia, which extended into North Georgia, Florida and Alabama from May 2019 until February 2020. In February2020, law enforcement executed 15 residential search warrants and seized more than 150 dogs that were being used for organized dog-fighting. A 136- count indictment was unsealed on Jan. 29, 2021, charging 11 individuals with various criminal activities. Three other individuals, including Johnson, were charged by criminal information.

 

During this time period, Johnson communicated with co-conspirator Jarvis Lockett about fighting and breeding dogs, dogs mauled and killed as a result of fighting, sharpening a dog’s teeth for fighting purposes, cash prizes for fights, and various topics detailing the business and the brutality of dog-fighting. Johnson attended a dog fight and participated as a handler inside the ring during the dog fight. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Johnson’s Macon residence on Feb. 26, 2020, recovering 13 pit bull terrier type dogs with scarring consistent with dog-fighting. In addition, agents found evidence of dog fighting activities including a digital scale, weighted collars, heavy chains, ground stakes and a variety of medical supplies to treat animals for injuries sustained from dog fighting activities.

 

“Johnson participated in a brutal criminal enterprise that profited from the suffering of animals,” said Assistant Attorney General Todd Kim of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD).“Dog-fighting is a crime, and also closely associated with other serious crimes. The sentences in this prosecution show those who engage in this cruel and inhumane practice face significant prison time.”

 

“The brutality of dog-fighting alone is sickening; but this case demonstrates the strong union that exists between this bloody and inhumane business and the world of illegal gun and drug trafficking,” said U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary for the Middle District of Georgia. “Our office is committed to not only prosecuting dog-fighting participants, but working alongside our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, we will root out the entire criminal network and hold them responsible for their crimes.”

Alegal nonprofit group says New Jersey voter rolls have over 8,200 duplicate names, which creates the potential for one person to vote multiple times.

The report states that the most common issue with duplicate registrations came down to sometimes "subtle" typographic errors such as mixed up letters.

World Bank issues grim economic forecast

 

The global economy is facing weak growth and high inflation, the report says

 

The World Bank (WB) has cut its global growth projection for this year from 4.1% to 2.9%, warning that many countries are likely to face recession.

 

“Amid the war in Ukraine, surging inflation, and rising interest rates, global economic growth is expected to slump in 2022,” the Tuesday press release said.

According to WB President David Malpass, “for many countries, recession will be hard to avoid.”

 

The institution said that after halving from 5.7% in 2021, growth would be stuck at 3% in both 2023 and 2024 as the Russia-Ukraine conflict affected investment and trade, the pent-up demand from the pandemic faded, and policy support was withdrawn.

 

The report highlighted that the slowdown in growth between 2021 and 2024 was on course to be twice that of the period between 1976 and 1979. The recovery from the stagflation of the 1970s required steep increases in interest rates in the West, it said. Those “played a prominent role in triggering a string of financial crises in emerging market and developing economies.”

 

According to the report, both rich and poor countries would be hit by the growth slowdown, but developing and emerging market economies are the most vulnerable. Growth in advanced economies was forecast to decline from 5.1% to 2.6% this year, while in emerging and developing countries it is expected to drop from 6.6% to 3.4%.

 

“Just over two years after Covid-19 caused the deepest global recession since World War II, the world economy is again in danger … Even if a global recession is averted, the pain of stagflation could persist for several years – unless major supply increases are set in motion,” said the report.

SUMMARY ORDER

 

PIERRE N. LEVAL, Circuit Judge.

 

Zhi Feng Chen, a native and citizen ofthe People's Republic of China, seeks review of an August 10, 2010, order of the BIA denying his motion to reopen his removal proceedings. In re Zhi Feng Chen, No. A077 657 953 (B.I.A. Aug. 10, 2010). We assume the parties' familiarity with the underlying facts and procedural history of the case.

 

We review the BIA's denial of a motion to reopen for abuse of discretion. See Ali v. Gonzales, 448 F.3d 515, 517 (2d Cir. 2006). An alien who has been ordered removed may file one motion to reopen, but must do so within 90 days of the final administrative decision. 8 U.S.C. § 1229a(c)(7). Here, the BIA did not abuse its discretion by denying Chen's motion to reopen as untimely, as he filed it more than three years after his final order of removal. See id.; 8 C.F.R. § 1003.2(c)(2).

 

Although the time limits on motions to reopen may be excused when the movant demonstrates changed country conditions, 8 U.S.C. § 1229a(c)(7)(C)(ii), the BIA reasonably concluded that only Chen's personal circumstances had changed,as his claim was based on the fact that he converted to Christianity and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ("LDS") in 2009. Aliens who have been ordered removed cannot "disregard [those] orders and remain in the United States long enough to change their personal circumstances ( e.g., by having children or practicing a persecuted religion) and initiate new proceedings via a new asylum application." Yuen Jin v. Mukasey, 538 F.3d 143, 151-56 (2d Cir. 2008).

 

Even if Chen's petition was not, in fact, based on changed personal circumstances, substantial evidence supports the BIA's conclusion that Chen failed to show a material change in country conditions. Chen would then have been required to demonstrate how country conditions had changed since the time of his merits hearing. See Matter of S-Y-G-, 24 I. N. Dec 247, 253 (BIA 2007). As the BIA found, Chen's evidence-documentation of his conversion, his marriage certificate, pictures, a letter from an LDS stake president, the 2003, 2008, and 2009 State Department Country Reports on China, the 2008 International Religious Freedom Report on China, and a number of articles on LDS activities in China and other Asian countries-did not demonstrate that the Chinese government is punishing LDS members more harshly now than at the time of his hearing. Although the evidence indicated that repression of religion increased during the 2008 Olympics, the evidence also indicated that "freedom to participate in religious activities continued to increase in many areas." Accordingly, the BIA reasonably determined that, Chen failed to establish that conditions in China had materially changed so as to warrant reopening, and the BIA did not abuse its discretion in denying his motion. See 8 C.F.R. § 1003.2(c)(2), (c)(3)(ii); see also Siewe v. Gonzales, 480 F.3d 160, 167 (2d Cir. 2007); Xiao Ji Chen v. U.S. Dep't of Justice, 471 F.3d 315, 342 (2d Cir. 2006).

 

For the foregoing reasons, the petition for review is DENIED.

Email reveals Trump campaign told fake electors in Georgia to use 'complete secrecy'

(CNN) The Trump campaign directed a group of Georgia Republicans to meet in secret and obscure their objectives in an email obtained by federal prosecutors as part of their recent investigation into Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the election in several swing states.

 

The email is part of the intensifying Justice Department investigation focused on the Trump campaign's interactions with so-called alternate Republican electors in states Trump lost and whether a scheme to organize them could be charged as a crime.

 

The Georgia email has not been disclosed publicly until now. It was sent by Robert Sinners, Trump's election day operations lead in Georgia on December 13, 2020, 18 hours before the group of alternate electors gathered at the Georgia State Capitol, according to multiple sources familiar with it.

Ahead of a primetime congressional hearing on last year’s Capitol riot, YouTube on Monday deleted The Post’s widely circulated interview with fur-clad rioter Aaron Mostofsky — saying the Brooklyn judge’s son spouted “misinformation.”

 

The Justice Department cited the interview in its case against Mostofsky, 35, who was sentenced to eight months behind bars last month for his role in the riot. It was one of the only professional interviews conducted inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as a wild mob of then-President Donald Trump’s supporters disrupted the certification of the 2020 election.

 

“We realize this may be disappointing news, but it’s our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all,” the Google-owned platform said in a Monday night notice of removal.

 

“Content that advances false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches changed the outcome of the US 2020 presidential election is not allowed on YouTube.”

 

The policy on election-related claims appears to be unevenly enforced. For example, footage remains available on YouTube of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claiming that the 2016 election was “stolen” and that Trump was an “illegitimate president.”

 

The interview with Mostofsky, published 17 months ago to the personal channel of a Post reporter, was clearly labeled as a journalistic product and the description field specified that the interview was with The Post, with a link to the newspaper’s reporting.

 

Footage from the riot featured prominently in the 2021 Senate impeachment trial of Trump for allegedly inciting the violence, and it may again feature in the Thursday primetime hearing put on by the Democrat-led House select committee investigating the mayhem.

 

Mostofsky, the son of Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Steven Mostofsky, was wearing a police vest and holding a riot shield outside the Senate chamber when he agreed to be interviewed.

 

He was among the first wave of rioters to breach the building, which sent Vice President Mike Pence, legislators and most journalists fleeing to secure locations.

 

Mostofsky, standing feet from the main doorway to the Senate, claimed he “found” the police supplies he was wearing and that he joined the mob because the election was “stolen.”

 

Prosecutors later revealed that he wore his bizarre fur-pelt costume to demonstrate that “even a caveman knows [the election] was stolen.”

 

“Can you tell me what you’re doing here today?” the interview begins.

“The shield? Found it on the floor. I found a cap and I gave it to the cops because it may be someone’s personal thing. This [shield], I have no idea. There’s no name. They probably just grab it. Looks like it’s been used a lot,” the rioter said.

 

“Should senators be afraid? Should House members be afraid?” The Post asked as Mostofsky’s compatriots smashed up the historic building.

(((CNN))) State and local election officials in Michigan and other political battlegrounds are gearing up to deal with a new element in this year's elections: a large influx of Republicans seeking to become poll workers, recruited by the Republican National Committee and other conservative organizations to play an active role in administering the midterm elections.

The development and a recent story in Politico detailing GOP recruitment sessions and how some of these would-be poll workers cling to debunked claims about fraud in the 2020 election have raised alarms that Republican election deniers could infiltrate official election operations and undermine the process.

The surge in interest also comes against the backdrop of efforts by former President Donald Trump's allies, such as Steve Bannon, to carry out what he calls a "precinct committee strategy," with the goal of installing Trump loyalists in local Republican Party positions and election posts.

"It is jarring to know that there is a political party, or a cohort of a political party, that is feeding folks misinformation and will use that as motivation to potentially interfere with our elections and with citizens' right to vote," Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, told Fredreka in a recent interview.

Benson, who said she has been following the uptick in GOP poll worker applications for weeks as part of her regular discussions with local election officials, met Monday with the state attorney general's office, the Michigan State Police and local officials to discuss, among other topics, how to protect against election interference, her aides said.

'Seat at the same table'

RNC officials say their recruitment drive has a straightforward goal: correcting a longstanding party imbalance in who serves in these roles. At Detroit's TCF Center in 2020, where election workers in the heavily Democratic city counted absentee ballots, Republicans made up 170 of the more than 5,400 poll workers, the RNC said.

Zelensky ‘Very Happy’ Boris Johnson Survived No-Confidence Vote

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he is ‘very happy’ that Boris Johnson managed to survive a vote of no confidence on Monday, describing the Prime Minister as a “true friend of Ukraine”.

 

While some Britons may lament their Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, having survived an assault on his leadership of the governing Conservative party, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has meanwhile expressed his delight that Johnson’s premiership has lived to see another day.

Zelensky’s position on Boris Johnson, despite Johnson’s domestic policy failings: the UK government has repeatedly backed the Ukrainian war effort, with the Prime Minister himself even visiting the war-torn nation relatively early on in the conflict to show his support.

 

The Johnson administration has also not been shy about sending munitions to Ukraine, shipping billions of pounds worth of weapons and munitions to the eastern European state.

 

“I want to be frank with you — Boris is supporting us, Boris is very concrete in supporting Ukraine,” Zelensky said, emphasising that he was grateful MPs had decided to keep Johnson in power.

 

“I am glad that we have not lost a very important ally, this is great news,” he went on to say.

May Migrant Apprehensions Hit 220K — Breaks Clinton Era Record

 

Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 220,000 migrants along the U.S.-Mexico Border in May, setting a record dating back to the Clinton era. Since March 1, agents apprehended more than 633,000 migrants along the southwest border.

 

A leaked Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas reveals that agents apprehended more than 220,000 migrants who illegally entered the U.S. through the southwest border during the month of May. Border Patrol records dating back to the Clinton administration show this sets a record for May apprehensions.

 

Official reports from U.S. Customs and Border Protection show the apprehension of 210,749 in March and 201,800 for April. The interior minister of one German state has openly advocated for anti-lockdown protesters to be classified as “right-wing extremists”.

 

Georg Maier, the left-wing interior minister of the German state of Thuringia, has said that he wants to see all COVID-19 protesters in the country classified as “right-wing extremists”.

 

The leftist minister’s comments come shortly after the release of a report by Germany’s “Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution”, which has claimed that such “right-wing extremism” remains the biggest threat to the state.

 

According to a report by Der Spiegel, Maier has demanded that the country’s “lateral thinker” population — a term commonly used in Germany to refer to those who disagree with the country’s draconian lockdown rules — should all be labelled as “right-wing extremists”.

 

Such a characterisation could see lockdown sceptics come under even more pressure from the state, up to and including covert surveillance if the nation’s treatment of the populist Alternative für Deutschland is in any way representative.

 

“We have to tighten up the classification of politically organized crime, especially with the corona deniers,” the publication reports the minister as saying.

 

Maier also demanded that-called “Reich citizens” — people who supposedly reject the legitimacy of the current Federal Republic — receive the same treatment, with the state already having targetted those deemed to be associated with the movement.

Suicidality Among Transgender Youth: Elucidating the Role of Interpersonal Risk Factors

 

Abstract

Data indicate that 82% of transgender individuals have considered killing themselves and 40% have attempted suicide, with suicidality highest among transgender youth.Using minority stress theory and the interpersonal theory of suicide, this study aims to better understand suicide risk among transgender youth. The present study examines the influence of intervenable risk factors: interpersonal and environmental microaggressions, internalized self-stigma, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and protective factors: school belonging, family support, and peer support on both lifetime suicide attempts and past 6-month suicidality in a sample of transgender youth (n = 372). SPSS 22 was utilized to examine the impact of the independent variables on both suicidality and lifetime suicide attempt through two separate logistic regressions. Fifty six percent of youth reported a previous suicide attempt and 86% reported suicidality. Logistic regressions indicated that models for both lifetime suicide attempts and suicidality were significant. Interpersonal microaggressions, made a unique, statistically significant contribution to lifetime suicide attempts and emotional neglect by family approached significance. School belonging, emotional neglect by family, and internalized self-stigma made a unique, statistically significant contribution to past 6-month suicidality. Results have significant practice and policy implications. Findings offer guidance for practitioners working with parents and caregivers of trans youth, as well as, for the creation of practices which foster interpersonal belonging for transgender youth.

UK Joins US In Sending Longer-Range Rockets To Ukraine Despite Putin Warnings

 

Britain is joining the US is supplying longer range rockets to Ukraine, despite fresh threats from Russia's president Vladimir Putin who says he is ready to expand strikes to 'decision-making centers' if these escalations from the West continue.

 

The Guardian is reporting Monday that "The UK will send a handful of tracked M270 multiple launch rocket systems, which can hit targets up to 50 miles away, in the hope they can disrupt the concentrated Russian artillery that has been pounding cities in eastern Ukraine."

 

The announcement comes as there's widespread acknowledgement that the tide of war is changing particularly in the east, where Russian forces are now making steady gains over the Donbas, with the Ukrainians saying they are suffering chronic supply shortages, including ammo and weapons.

 

In what appears a reference to the situation in the Donbas and the south, UK defence secretary Ben Wallace said the move to ship longer range rocket launchers is justified "as Russia’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine." However, he didn't speculate over Russia's potential response.

 

"As Russia’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine. These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities," Wallace said.

 

Putin made weekend statements vowing further retaliation if the US proceeds with its HIMAR and MLRS rocket systems delivery. On Sunday five Russian cruise missiles slammed into the Ukrainian capital of Kiev - which was the first time the capital came under Russian fire in over a month. Russia said it targeted a depot that contained Western-supplied tanks - something which Ukraine denied.

 

Like the Biden administration before, the UK government is attempting to assure that the fresh rocket transfer will not be used to strike within Russian territory:

Once considered a long shot in the New York gubernatorial race, former White House official Andrew Giuliani has stealthily surged into the lead for the June 28 GOP primary.

 

New York pollster John Zogby called the emergence of the former New York City mayor's son in the No. 1 position remarkable and the product of a bruising battle involving Republican competitors Rep. Lee Zeldin, 2014 nominee Rob Astorino, and upstate millionaire Harry Wilson.

 

In releasing his latest survey, Zogby said on his website, “In a series of stunning new findings, a Unite NY/John Zogby Strategies poll finds GOP insurgent candidate Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, widening his lead over Rep. Lee Zeldin in the party’s gubernatorial primary on June 28.”

 

The Utica-based Democratic pollster said that Giuliani leads with 35% to Zeldin’s 25%. Astorino is competitive at 17%, while Wilson is at 12%. Another 11% are undecided. It is the latest of a handful of polls showing Giuliani in the driver's seat.

 

“The race for the Republican nomination for governor is far from over, but both Zeldin and Wilson have carpeted the television airwaves, so the campaign is in earnest. Giuliani has recently campaigned with his father, ‘America’s Mayor’ after 9/11 and is a strong backer of former President Donald Trump,” Zogby said in his analysis.

 

Zogby told Secrets that while Giuliani, 36, is on the rise and headed to a surprise win, he remains far behind sitting Gov. Kathy Hochul, who leads 54%-35% in a head-to-head match.

 

Giuliani is the former White House director of the Office of Public Liaison. While he has no elected experience, he has been part of his family’s political business for years.

 

Zogby told Secrets, “MAGA has a presence in the NYGOP. Plus, Zeldin is not catching on."

 

In the polling data, Giuliani leads in all parts of the state, especially New York City and the New York City suburbs.

 

Among his key issues are crime and population loss. In April 2021, he announced his campaign in an interview with Secrets and said, “Whoever ends up winning is going to have to implement the Giuliani playbook on public safety, so who better to do that than a Giuliani?”

Israeli Jets Strike Suburb South of Syria’s Capital off Damascus

 

State media: Air defenses intercept most of missiles fired

 

The latest round of Israeli attacks on Syria saw fighter jets firing a flurry of missiles at Damascus. The missiles hit the suburb of al-Kiswah, though state media reported a vast majority were intercepted by air defenses.

 

Its not clear what sites were targeted, though Israeli press claimed Kiswah has some Iranian militia sites therein. The strikes did some physical damage, but there is no word yet of casualties.

 

This is not unusual for Israeli attacks in Syria, as the Syrians have substantial air defenses, and strikes tend to target warehouses and the like, not heavily populated areas.

 

Nominally these Israeli attacks are aimed at Iran, and therefore anything they hit in Syria gets spun as Iran-linked, even if often they are just Shi’ite militias.

Judicial Watch: Court Orders FBI To Provide Details on Officials Listed in Strzok Memo That Opened Spy Operation Against Trump

 

Judicial Watch announced today that a federal court has ordered the FBI to disclose additional details about FBI and other officials “cc-ed” on the memo used to justify launching the “Crossfire Hurricane” spy operation against President Trump and his 2016 presidential campaign. Judge Carl J. Nichols has given the FBI until June 16, 2022 to respond. The order comes in a September 2019 FOIA lawsuit Judicial Watch filed after the FBI failed to respond to a request for the memo, known as an “Electronic Communication” or “EC.” (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:19-cv-02743)).

 

In May 2020, Judicial Watch obtained a redacted version of the previously secret memo, authored by former FBI agent Peter Strzok. The Biden Justice Department argued that there is no significant public interest in disclosing the names of officials “cc-ed” on the memo.

 

Judicial Watch filed a motion countering that claim and arguing that the public had a significant interest in knowing who at the FBI had knowledge of the memo and presumably approved the investigation.

 

The court held a hearing on the dispute in September 2021, and on May 2, 2022 issued a minute order requiring the FBI to file

 

a supplemental memorandum of up to 5 pages, supported by affidavit or declaration, explaining the positions and seniority held by any persons whose names are redacted from the “CC:” section of the document.

 

“The Biden administration is still covering up who was involved in the Obama administration’s unprecedented and illicit spying on Donald J. Trump,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “This court decision is another step forward in accountability for the worst government corruption scandal in American history.”

 

In support of its position, Judicial Watch provided the Court with two declarations by Kevin Brock, former assistant director of the Directorate of Intelligence and former FBI principal deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Brock testified that it is not standard procedure to have an EC drafted, approved, and sent to and from a single agent and that doing so violates FBI oversight protocols:

 

In the EC document here, the “From” line indicates the EC – and authorization to begin an investigation as required under FBI policy – is from a part of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. The contact listed is Peter Strzok. The EC was drafted by Peter Strzok. The EC was approved by Peter Strzok. On the face of the document produced, it appears the EC that initiated a criminal FARA investigation of unidentified members of the Trump presidential campaign was created by Peter Strzok, approved by Peter Strzok, and sent from Peter Strzok to Peter Strzok. This is not usual procedure.

 

FBI policy prohibits an agent from initiating and approving his or her own case. Such action violates FBI oversight protocols put in place to protect the American people from an FBI agent acting unilaterally.

Diabetes drug lead to significant weight loss in people with obesity: study

A diabetes drug taken once a week lead to dramatic weight loss in people who have obesity, according to a recently published study in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study authors said that participants in the 72-week trial lost up to 20% of their body weight.

 

"The findings indicate tirzepatide may be a potential therapeutic option for individuals living with obesity, with participants losing between 16% and 22.5% of their starting weight", the authors said in the study.

 

The drug, tirzepatide, is a novel drug that was recently approved by the Food & Drug Administration to help treat type 2 diabetes through a once-weekly injection. The drug, works on two hormones that help control blood sugar and send fullness signals to the brain, the authors explained in the study. The investigators decided to look at the effect of the diabetes drug on obesity and presented the findings of the phase 3 trial at a symposium at the 82nd Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) in New Orleans, LA.

 

The 72-week phase 3 double-blind, randomized, controlled trial, involved over 2500 participants who were considered obese and did not have diabetes.

 

The team of researchers divided the participants into four groups. Three of the groups were given 5mg, 10mg or 15mg of tirzepatide to be self-administered once a week for 72 weeks, while the fourth group was given a self-administered placebo injection. All four groups were given counseling sessions regarding lifestyle habits and low-calorie meals. They also performed at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week.

 

The investigators found that 89% of participants, who took the 5 mg dose of the drug and 96% of those who took 10 mg and 15 mg weekly doses of the drug, achieved at least 5% body weight reductions compared to 28% of those in the placebo group.

 

According to the report, participants who took the 5 mg dose of tirzepatide lost an average of 35 pounds, and the 10 mg group achieved an average loss of 49 pounds. The participants who took the 15 mg injection saw an average 52-pound weight loss over the 72-week course of the study. Those in the placebo group achieved a 5 lb. average of weight loss, according to the study.

 

"Obesity should be treated like any other chronic disease – with effective and safe approaches that target underlying disease mechanisms, and these results underscore that tirzepatide may be doing just that," lead researcher Ania Jastreboff, MD, PhD, an associate professor Yale University School of Medicine, and director of Weight Management and Obesity Prevention at the Yale Stress Center told one media outlet.

 

"These results are an important step forward in potentially expanding effective therapeutic options for people with obesity. Notably, about 9 out of 10 individuals with obesity lost weight while taking tirzepatide," Jastreboff, who is also the co-director of the Yale Center for Weight Management in Connecticut said in the media report.

 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC), the prevalence of obesity in the United States was nearly 42% in 2017 through March 2020. The CDC stated that obesity related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer.
