I wonder what the real reason for this is? I'd love for Boeing to clarify how an engine, wrapped behind kevlar, buried in layers of insulation, with it's own cooling re-circulation system would be affected by dark blue paint.
Actually helped design/test engines in a past career, you can paint that cowling flat black and put it in the desert, it makes no difference especially to these new series of engines.
Could be a botched auto rotate training. They aren't supposed to do them with crew aboard but they do.
