I have and what you refer to are "tips", typically paid daily.
But the BIG bill comes on the way out.
My take, the stuff that costs is worthless.
It's a blind "religion", some pray for it, others pray to it.
But all believe that a $0.02 piece of plasic/paper has "value".
And it's so ingrained, this religion, that people believe a piece of paper/plastic with a 5 + 0 printed on it is worth 10x more.
this "magic" only works because the person down the store is a memeber of the same "religios" faith, so he gives you 10x more stuff for the one with 5+0 on it.
So what is "money" anyhow?
