Will it be post WWI Germany where our currency is worthless and everyone is wiped out, or will there be a reset where US dollars can be exchanged for a new currency at a reasonable rate?

"Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyers are pleading for leniency at sentencing for the disgraced socialite, citing claims that she was abused as a child and has continuously faced death threats inside her Brooklyn lockup.

 

Attorneys for Jeffery Epstein’s notorious henchwoman filed paperwork in Manhattan federal court Wednesday asking the judge in her case to consider a prison sentence “well below” the 20 years recommended by the probation department.

 

They said Maxwell — who was convicted of sex trafficking in December — shouldn’t bear the brunt of the punishment that was meant for Epstein, who killed himself while awaiting trial in 2019.

 

“[T]his Court cannot sentence Ms. Maxwell as if she were a proxy for Epstein simply because Epstein is no longer here,” they wrote in the 77-page document. “It would be a travesty of justice for her to face a sentence that would have been appropriate for Epstein.”

 

Maxwell, who was convicted of recruiting young girls for Epstein to sexually abuse from 1994 to 2004, is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28.

 

Her lawyers said the abuse she allegedly suffered as a child at the hands of her father made her vulnerable to Epstein’s influence.

“She had a difficult, traumatic childhood with an overbearing, narcissistic, and demanding

father,” the lawyers said. “It made her vulnerable to Epstein, whom she met right after her father’s death.”

 

In one instance when Maxwell was 13 years old, her father allegedly hammered her dominant hand — leaving it bruised and painful for weeks — when he grew outraged that she hammered a poster onto her freshly painted bedroom wall, the attorneys claim.

 

The lawyers also asked for a lighter sentence on the basis that Maxwell suffered a worse imprisonment than typical pretrial detainees with “conditions far more onerous and punitive.”

Last week, at a pretrial hearing at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba for Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a Saudi who is charged with being the mastermind of an attack on the USS Cole in 2000 at which 17 American sailors were killed, the psychologist in charge of interrogating Nashiri described in vivid detail both the modern and the medieval techniques of torture used upon him.

 

The psychologist was called as a defense witness in order to demonstrate to the court that a good deal of the evidence that prosecutors plan to introduce against Nashiri was obtained directly or indirectly through, or was tainted by, his torture and thus cannot lawfully be used at his trial.

 

Torture committed by government officials and their collaborators upon a person restrained by the government is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in a federal prison, and its fruits are inadmissible in all courts. For many years, the CIA documented torture through video tapes of its disguised agents and contractors torturing its captives so it would have a record of the events without the need for revealing a participant’s identity.

 

But the tapes of Nashiri’s torture were destroyed by either the chief CIA official in the United States in charge of all torture or his then-chief of staff. Hence the live testimony last week. That chief of staff would go on to become the director of the CIA, Gina Haspel, nicknamed by her colleagues “Bloody Gina.”

 

This column will spare the reader the gruesome and stomach-churning details of Nashiri’s torture, but for the one medieval procedure. What caught the eyes of those of us who monitor these events was the mention of the name of the CIA official under whose watch the torture occurred and who wrote detailed, graphic descriptions of it to her bosses in Langley, Virginia. That official is the same Gina Haspel. She was the head of the CIA station at Thailand in 2002, at which Nashiri was tortured, and she was the senior member of the torture team.

 

Nashiri’s torture went on for four months, at the end of which the interrogation team concluded that Nashiri was being truthful and essentially said the same things under torture as he told interrogators prior to torture. But Bloody Gina does not trust testimony unless it comes with great fear and pain.

 

In 2006, Nashiri was shipped from Thailand to Gitmo, where he was charged with capital murder. His trial has not yet commenced. The testimony last week was one of many pretrial hearings ordered by military trial judges.

Nashiri, who has the same speedy trial rights as anyone being prosecuted by the U.S. government, has been waiting for his trial for 14 years. He is on his second team of military and civilian defense lawyers. His first team quit when they discovered that their communications with their client had been secretly listened to and recorded by federal agents.

 

Most judges would have dismissed the charges against the defendant for such criminal behavior by the government. But at Gitmo, where the judge and the prosecutors have the same boss – the Secretary of Defense – the niceties of due process are sometimes watered down.

 

The significance of Bloody Gina’s personal supervision of this torture cannot be gainsaid. It is the first time we have learned from a witness under oath that CIA torture was approved and supervised at the highest CIA levels. It is also the first time we have learned that a CIA director, earlier in her career, committed federal crimes, as each torture session is a separate felony.

 

We also learned that Bloody Gina may be an amateur historian. In the late 1400s, when the Medici in Florence had been deposed by a mad monk named Girolamo Savonarola, he instituted aggressive torture for those accused secretly of sins of the flesh, looking for their public confessions and the identities of their sexual partners.

 

He, like Bloody Gina, refused to accept testimony from a detained person unless it was obtained under torture. And he, like Bloody Gina, instituted a novel torture technique of hanging a victim by his arms secured behind his back so as to induce excruciating shoulder dislocation.

 

Those of us who believe that the Constitution means what it says have argued that attackers of U.S. military personnel who are not in combat pursuant to a congressional declaration of war should be tried in federal court and accorded constitutional protection from the government’s torturers. Had that been done, Nashiri’s case and all others at Gitmo would have been completed years ago, and the government would not be spending $500 million a year there while it continues to trash the Constitution.

 

I was surprised to learn that one of the torturers admitted to these crimes and implicated Bloody Gina. Torture by government officials – no matter their goal – is the most tyrannical government overreach imaginable. It presumes that there are no natural rights or moral standards; it utterly negates the personhood of the victim; it reveals that there are no limits to what the government can do and get away with. It is expressly prohibited by the Constitution and federal law.

 

Bloody Gina and her team of torturers may feel safe from American prosecutors, as the Nashiri tortures took place well outside of the statute of limitations – but not from all prosecutors. The International Criminal Court in The Hague claims jurisdiction over the entire globe, and Thailand – the place of Nashiri’s torture – is a signatory to the treaty that established the court. The ICC characterizes torture as a war crime that has no statute of limitations and recognizes no executive pardons.

 

When the Medici returned to power after a popular uprising deposed Savonarola, he was tortured by his own torturers before he was hanged for heresy. Torture is government without limits. Only limited government respects persons.

Hundreds of thousands of over-55s are living with aortic valve stenosis (AVS) but new analysis suggests the NHS will be unable to diagnose and treat it, reports the Mirror.

 

Without treatment up to 59% of these Brits will die over the five years to 2024. Around 10,000 of these deaths will be among 55 to 64-year-olds, with 29,548 among 65 to 74-year-olds.

 

Previous analysis suggests that without symptoms, the chance of a sudden cardiac death is less than 1%. Once symptoms develop the risk goes up to 34%.

The Supreme Court did not address Dominion Voting Systems’ noncompliance with the election code, and are doing nothing more than providing a rubber stamp in forcing use of a machine designed to facilitate fraud.

… The outlook is quite good for recurrent pericarditis if you catch it early. The biggest mistake that we see here is that the acute episode is not recognized properly and when recognized it's undertreated and patients come here with multiple recurrent pericarditis episodes.

 

Now, one thing that I should mention is that the MRI is very, very useful because it can prognosticate how bad the severity is and how many months to years you may need to be put on therapy.

 

… Another important point is that now the mRNA vaccines such as with Pfizer and Moderna, can rarely cause myocarditis or mild pericarditis. The phenotype or a certain person that gets this would be a young 20-year old male that has a lot of testosterone and testosterone may play some role, and they can get a myocarditis, pericarditis. Usually, this is very self-limited, very self-limited and goes away over time. And the treatment is very, very similar to treating recurrent pericarditis from other causes.

The Shermans were being investigated regarding a fundraiser for Trudeau. They died. Thus their deaths became moot and the investigation into the fundraiser also died.

 

At issue:

 

The Shermans had held a fundraiser with more than 100 invitees attending their expansive residence to raise funds for the LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA. Justin Trudeau attended and benefited from the event. The Canadian government's Office of Commissioner of Lobbying (OCL) began an investigation into wrongdoing; the content of their recored interview with Barry Sherman prompted a police investigation. Because that criminal investigation was based on that interview, the Shermans' company, Apotex, sued for access to the transcript and/or the recording. The OCL would normally have complied as a matter of course.

 

However, Trudeau had given the OCL $400,000 to hinder the Apotex law suite. The OCL did so by dragging its feet and then by censoring the transcript. After review, a court order was issued requiring the OCL to release an unredacted transcript to Apotex. The OCL did not comply with the court order.

 

The fundraise took place in AUG 2015; the interview was recorded in NOV 2016; a court hearing to deal with the OCL refusal to comply with the court order was scheduled for FEB 2018. In the meantime, Trudeau was elected and became Prime Minister.

 

The OCL report stated that, “There is basis to conclude that the private interests of (REDACTED) were advanced to a high degree, & that a sense of obligation was created by Mr. Sherman’s” Aug 26, 2015 fundraiser. The interview provided material evidence to that effect. Another court hearing was to be held in FEB 2018.

 

In DEC 2017 the slaim bodies of the Shermans were found at their home, Five days later, Trudeau was convicted of conflict of interest laws.

 

The criminal investigation into the Sherman's fundraiser was made moot by their deaths. The OCL investigation died with them. The Toronto Police investigation into their murders continues with no leads reported yet, in JUN 2022.

UTAH COUNTY – The Utah County Attorney and Sheriff took shots at each other last week over a child sexual abuse investigation recently announced by the Sheriff’s Office.

 

In dueling press conferences on June 1, prosecutor David Leavitt called it a political attack on him, while Sheriff Mike Smith refused to name suspects or link the case to Leavitt. Both discussed a case that was filed in 2012, and later dropped in 2014, all before Leavitt was elected to his current office.

 

The day before, the Sheriff’s Office had made a vague announcement about an investigation into ritualistic child sexual abuse. Leavitt then called a news conference and shared that he was named in a 151-page document labeled as a “victim statement” that was connected to the 2012 case.The statement names Leavitt and more than a dozen othersas part of a group alleged to have practiced ritual sexual abuse of children.

 

Now, courtroom audio recordings obtained by the KSL Investigators provide more insight into the dismissal of 18 felony child sexual abuse charges against a Utah County man. In an effort to protect the privacy of the woman who came forward, KSL is not naming the man who was charged.

 

“Those charges were dismissed by my predecessor because the allegations were so untenable and unbelievable,” Leavitt said.

 

Leavitt said the allegations are “100% false,” but when pressed about details surrounding the dismissal of the case, admitted he had not reviewed the casefile himself. He said the records are not digitized and would take several days to locate.

 

“I will make those files available to the extent they are allowed under the law,” he said. “I have nothing to hide.”

According to online court records, the case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can still refilethe charges. When questioned Friday about the effort to locate the old records, a spokesperson for Leavitt’s office said he was traveling and could not immediately provide answers.

 

During his news conference, Leavitt said he discussed the case with David Sturgill, the prosecutor who was assigned to the case 10 years ago and still works in the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

 

“He told me they dismissed it because the evidence was so outlandish,” Leavitt said.

 

But Leavitt’s statements about the dismissal don’t quite line up with what attorneys said in court.

 

“The allegations are some of the worst allegations of sexual abuse that I’ve come across in the many years that I’ve been prosecuting these types of cases,” Sturgill said during a hearing in May 2013.

 

During that same hearing, the defense attorney representing the man charged also discussed the seriousness of the case and the need for a thorough investigation.

 

“If Mr. […] is convicted of these charges, he will never see the light of day,” said Michael Esplin. “I mean, these are – he’ll be there for the rest of his life in prison.”

 

During a hearing in March 2014, Sturgill moved to dismiss the charges, with a plan to possibly refile the case in the future.

 

Neither attorney shared concerns during the hearing that the allegations were outlandish or unbelievable.Instead, they pointed to the several-years delay in reporting by the alleged victim, and difficulty in obtaining records.

 

“There’s a lot more that needs to be done with this case, and it’s just not coming together,” Sturgill said. “I’m getting resistance from DCFS… and then there’s other medical records that we’re having some trouble gathering. A lot of it’s due to just the age of this case. It’s an extremely delayed disclosure.”

 

Esplin sought – unsuccessfully – to have the case permanently dismissed, citing similar challenges that he believed would prevent his client from having a fair trial.

 

“Witnesses have passed away, records have been shredded, just because of the nature of the length of the time that’s gone on,” he said. “I don’t believe this case will ever be ready to be tried.”

 

Why the case was never refiled and what will happen with it now are questions that remain unanswered, but the sheriff says the current investigation has expanded beyond one case.

 

“We have new victims coming forward,” he said.

 

The man once charged in the case has recently filed to have the court records expunged. The Attorney General’s Office has filed an objection to the expungement request, saying, “The petitioner is currently the subject of an on-going criminal investigation by four law enforcement agencies into the same conduct which was the basis of the 1999 arrest.”

 

The Utah County Attorney’s Office has also filed an objection.

 

Smith has said the current investigation will continue, regardless of whether the 2012 case is expunged.

Dr Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s coronavirus tsar, has contracted the virus.

It’s the second time Leavitt has been ill with the coronavirus.

 

Leavitt, who taught in Ukraine with the American Bar Association for more than a decade, has owned an apartment in Kyiv for several years. With news of a threat of a Russian invasion, Leavitt said in an interview on Wednesday that he’d booked the hasty trip to Ukraine to get paperwork proving ownership of his apartment and to collect some personal effects.

 

“We flew from Salt Lake to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to Kiev,” he said Wednesday, “and spent 24 hours there and got things taken care of then visited with some close friends of ours.”

Supply will Support Clinical Trials and be Part of the National Emergency Strategic Stockpile

Toronto, Ontario, April 21, 2020 – As researchers around the globe and across the country accelerate their efforts to study the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19, Apotex, Canada’s largest pharmaceutical company and the only manufacturer of hydroxychloroquine in the country, announced a donation today of two million dosages of the medication to the federal government.

The company shifted priorities several weeks ago to scale up production and repurpose its plants to manufacture even more hydroxychloroquine, while ensuring Canadians currently being treated with the drug for approved indications have continued access.

“Our goal from the outset has been to protect the supply of this product for patients currently using it for approved indications,” said Jeff Watson President & CEO, Apotex. “At the same time, we recognize the importance of building a clinical profile of this medicine to determine its efficacy in treating COVID-19, and we are fortunate to be able to meet both needs.”

The donated medication will be set aside for current and future COVID-19 related clinical trials that are approved by Health Canada’s Office of Clinical Trials at the Therapeutic Products Directorate. Researchers are encouraged to contact Apotex if they require supply of hydroxychloroquine at hcqdonations@apotex.com. Some of the donation will also be allocated to the National Emergency Strategic Stockpile (NESS) and provide emergency surge capacity to the provinces and territories in the event of a significant shortage.

Prior to the donation announced today, Apotex also donated product and placebo to support eight clinical trials taking place across Canada.

“Our ability to rapidly increase production underscores the importance of having a domestic manufacturing capability,” said Mr. Watson. “The current pandemic has highlighted this fact as the complexity and demand of the global supply chain has come under significant pressure.”

BROCKTON — A 30-year-old Brockton man has been indicted on charges that he robbed and then stabbed a man to death at a city gas station earlier this year.

 

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said that on Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Manuel Gui Goncalves on one count each of murder and armed robbery in the killing of 54-year-old Brockton manRichard Russell.

 

At around 12:34 a.m. on March 19, Brockton police responded to a gas station at 81 Warren Ave. for a reported stabbing.

 

Emergency first responders arrived to find the male victim suffering from a stab wound and lying unresponsive on the ground in the parking lot at the Stop 'N Gas station, according to the D.A.'s office.

 

Later identified as Russell, the victim was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

 

Investigators conducted interviews at the scene and reviewed video footage that allegedly shows Goncalves engaged in a physical altercation with Russell, the D.A.'s office stated.

 

According to the office, police found Goncalves near the scene of the homicide immediately after the stabbing.

 

The D.A.'s office said the suspect allegedly had a knife on him that appeared to be covered in blood.

 

He was arrested that morning and is set to be arraigned on the charges in superior court at a later date, according to the office.

 

No further details were disclosed.
