Meanwhile, WhatsApp’s inventor, a Ukrainian-born Jew whose creation made him one of the wealthiest people in the world, has kept conspicuously quiet throughout the conflict. Jan Koum, who controls a multi-billion-dollar charitable foundation, has not uttered a public word even as many other wealthy Ukrainians and Russians announce donations toward humanitarian relief efforts.

But based on an examination of tax returns filed by Koum’s foundation before the war, the publicity-shy WhatsApp founder, who arrived in California as a teenager, is more entwined than meets the eye with the events rocking the country he left behind as a 16-year-old. His donations, only a sliver of which have been previously reported, include tens of millions of dollars to Jewish organizations now involved in relief efforts in Eastern Europe.

For example, from 2019 to 2020, the latest year for which there is a tax return, the Koum Family Foundation donated about $17 million to the European Jewish Association, an organization headquartered in Brussels that launched a campaign in March to provide housing, food and clothing to refugees from the war. Nearly all of the group’s 2019 budget came from Koum.

With $10.6 million in gifts over that same period, Koum’s foundation is also one of the most significant donors to another group involved in relief efforts: the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS. The group, whose name refers to the Commonwealth of Independent States, an association of former Soviet territories, announced the establishment of an ambulance fleet to evacuate patients throughout Ukraine.

It is unknown whether Koum continued to make donations in 2021 and afterward because his foundation and all of the past grantees contacted by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency have either ignored requests for comment or declined to speak on the record. JTA contacted more than a dozen of the nonprofits, several of which said they were prohibited from publicly acknowledging Koum’s giving as a condition of their gift.

Due to the secrecy marking his charitable giving, as well as his personal life, Koum’s profile as a philanthropist over the past several years has gone almost unnoticed. However, tax returns reveal that Koum, with a fortune estimated between $9.8 billion and $13.7 billion, has quietly become one of the largest donors to Jewish causes in the world.

Biden considers China tariffs rollback, plans talks with Xi

Biden said on Saturday he was in the process of making up his mind on tariffs and the potential call with Xi, though he hasn't made a final determination yet.

President Joe Biden is considering rolling back some of the tariffs that former president Donald J. Trump imposed on Chinese goods, in hopes of mitigating skyrocketing price hikes on goods, according to CNN.

US officials are also working to arrange a possible call this summer between President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to Bloomberg.

Biden said on Saturday he was in the process of making up his mind on tariffs and the potential call with Xi, according to an official familiar with the matter, though he hasn't made a final determination yet.

Biden and Xi last spoke in a nearly two-hour-long video call on March 18, their first following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The US president warned his counterpart at the time of “consequences” should Beijing provide support for President Vladimir Putin’s war, according to the White House readout of the chat.

Business groups and some outside economists have been pressuring the administration to relax at least a portion of the taxes on imports, saying it would be a significant step that the president could take to immediately cut costs for consumers.

“We want stability in the relationship, that takes connecting,” US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns said Thursday at an event hosted by the Brookings Institution when asked about the state of play between the countries. “Of course, our ultimate channel is the channel between our two presidents. So we’re conducting intensive diplomacy.”

Liu Pengyu, spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, said in an email to Bloomberg that China and the US “have smooth communications channels.”

Biden has limited options for bringing down the price hikes and has deferred to the Federal Reserve to manage inflation. Yet its primary tactic of raising interest rates has driven stock market prices down, instead of developing fears of a looming recession.

Biden's team believes it must make a decision soon as inflation continues to drag down the President's approval ratings. The issue has been debated internally for months and has sparked an internal divide within Biden's team.

The ‘Talmudic Encyclopedia’ enters the home stretch to completion

The editors of the massive work – begun in 1947 – will be finishing their project by 2024.

More than 40 years ago, Orson Welles, the legendary actor and filmmaker, in an iconic TV commercial, intoned in his distinctive baritone, “Some things can’t be rushed – good music and good wine.” Welles then concluded the ad for Paul Masson wines with the famous slogan, “We will sell no wine before its time.”

Though a bit far afield, similar thoughts about the passage of time ran through this writer’s mind when considering the Talmudic Encyclopedia, known in Hebrew as Encyclopedia Talmudit.

Initiated by Rabbi Meir Bar-Ilan (1880-1949), the Talmudic Encyclopedia was developed with the goal of summarizing the major halachic subjects discussed in the Talmud and post-Talmudic rabbinic literature from the Gaonic period to the present day. The first volume was released in 1947, and over the years, 47 additional volumes have been published.

In December, the 48th volume of the Talmudic Encyclopedia was issued, and the editors have now reached the Hebrew letter “mem.” The issuing of this volume was marked by a special celebration celebrating the 75th anniversary of the project at the official residence of Isaac Herzog – who in addition to currently serving as president is the grandson of Rabbi Yitzhak Halevi Herzog, the first chief rabbi of the State of Israel and a supporter of the project at its outset.

The Talmudic Encyclopedia, with its distinctive yellow cover and green design accents, has long been a staple on the bookshelves of Jewish homes, yeshivot and institutions of higher learning. Yet, what has taken so long? Did the editors anticipate that the project would still be ongoing 75 years after the first volume was released?

'Sexualization of children': Feminists join Christian conservatives to stop Biden LGBTQ order

Executive order cites research on youth suicide that's undercut by new analysis of states that don't require parental consent for blockers, hormones. Don't force sexual orientation on kids because "they're just kids," feminist group says.

President Biden has strengthened the growing coalition between social conservatives and gender-critical feminists against transgender ideology by issuing an executive order on "advancing equality" for people who are not heterosexual or don't identify with their sex.

While they disagree on abortion rights and same-sex attraction, this ideological odd couple shares common ground on the primacy of sex-based rights, the harm of pornography and even the "sexualization of children" through exposure to adult themes such as drag.

The executive order is specifically focused on "unrelenting political and legislative attacks" by unnamed states "on LGBTQI+ children and families in particular," which endanger a half-century of "civil rights gains," harm democracy and "threaten basic personal safety."

It implies that limiting women's sports to biological females - as a third of states have done, most recently Louisiana - and keeping intimate facilities separated by sex is comparable to "the criminalization that LGBTQI+ people continue to face in some 70 countries around the world."

The order promises federal support for "LGBTQI+ students in our nation’s schools and other education and training programs," including through guidance on "safe and inclusive learning environments" that "address bullying" of these students –without defining any of those terms.

It also mentions "mental health" a dozen times, with a focus on youth. The White House will "identify promising practices" to ensure schools provide "accessible and supportive" mental and other health services for LGBTQI+ students, likely meaning the gender-affirming care model that prioritizes drug therapy and even surgery.

The order lumps in talk therapy to address a child's possibly transient gender confusion, a more cautious approach than starting puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, with active counseling to "suppress or change" sexual orientation.

Such "conversion therapy" is a "discredited practice that research indicates can cause significant harm, including higher rates of suicide-related thoughts and behaviors by LGBTQI+ youth."

Northern Syria Chaos: Turkish-Backed Al-Shamiya Launches Large Attack On Ahrar Al-Sham Over HTS Ties (Video)

On June 18, the al-Shamiya Front launched a large-scale attack on key positions of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement in the Turkish-occupied part of northern Syria.

Both al-Shamiya Front and Ahrar al-Sham are both members of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA). The coalition, which was established in 2017, is no more than a public relations stunt with no real organization or central command.

According to Syrian pro-opposition sources, including the Syrian Observatory for Human Right, al-Shamiya Front militants stormed the villages of Tall Battal and Abla in the northern Aleppo countryside, where Ahrar al-Sham maintains key positions.

Al-Shamiya Front militants managed to captured some positions in the two villages. However, clashes are still taking place there.

In response to the surprise attack, Ahrar al-Sham militants attacked positions of the al-Shamiya Front near the town of Jarabulus that is located right on the border line with Turkey.

Now, the al-Shamiya Front is preparing for a new push. The faction is amassing hundreds of militants and heavy weapons, including battle tanks, in the outskirts of Tall Battal and Abla. Ahrar al-Sham has also brought in fresh reinforcements.

Israel Strikes Military Positions In Gaza Following Rocket Attack On Ashkelon (Videos)

On June 18, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a series of strikes on positions of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, in the Gaza Strip.

The strikes were a response to a rocket attack targeted the town of Ashkelon. Palestinian fighters launched a single rocket at the Israeli town, which is located some ten kilometers to the north of Gaza, in the early morning hours. The IDF said that the rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome system.

According to the Shehab News Agency, the strikes hit the Saladin base in central Gaza and three observation towers of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in the northern part of the enclave. The strikes didn’t result in any casualties.

European ‘Ukraine Unity’ Myth Starts Crumbling As Reality Kicks In

For nearly four months, we have been listening about “European unity” in the wake of “Russia’s unprovoked brutal invasion” and similar forced statements of no value in any shape or form. However, as the war in Ukraine drags on, started by the West in 2014, after its political and intelligence elites launched the Neo-Nazi Maidan insurrection, Europeans don’t only lack even a mere semblance of unity on most crucial matters concerning the EU (itself fading into geopolitical insignificance and obsolescence), but are even severely divided on how its future should look like.

The once-powerful colonialist continent pillaging the rest of the planet for centuries has become a cheap bargaining chip in a conflict between the old Cold War rivals. As the 19th-century French writer Alphonse Karr said, the more things change, the more they stay the same. If there ever was any illusion of European sovereignty, it vanished on February 24, when Russia decided it has had enough.

Despite initial “moral support” by the EU public, it seems Ukraine was just another (very) temporary trend in the minds of the amorphic masses. As the sanctions boomerang starts ravaging EU economies (deservedly so, to say the least), Ukrainian flags on social media started waning into the depths of Internet, first replaced by rainbow flags (the new “religion” of the political West) and then by Europeans finally facing the uncomfortable reality of price hikes, food shortages and an increasingly severe energy deficit. All self-imposed, we should add. As EU governments race to fulfill the will of Washington DC, regardless how much damage that leaves them with, the populace is turning to the very real problems they’re experiencing as a result of this suicidal subservience. This notion becomes even scarier to most Europeans as they realize fall (and soon after, winter) is mere months away.

According to the poll conducted by the Center for Liberal Studies, Europeans remain “largely united” in backing Kiev, but are divided over how long they’re willing to endure the conflict’s economic fallout. The survey across 10 countries suggests attention may turn to fears about the conflict’s wider impact, particularly the rising cost of living. ”EU governments will have to contend with this as they seek to maintain pressure against Moscow,” according to authors Ivan Krastev and Mark Leonard. A bit more than a third of those surveyed want the conflict to be over as soon as possible, even at Ukraine’s expense, while over a fifth (22%) stated it should “last as long as it takes to punish Russia and restore all of Ukraine’s land.”

Department of Justice Stymies Congressional Attempt to Get Information on Hunter Biden Probe

The Department of Justice (DOJ) headquarters has intervened in a congressional effort to get details on the agency’s probe into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), a member of the panel, in May asked U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, who is investigating Hunter Biden, for answers because attempts to get information from the DOJ have met with silence or little information.

Grassley and Johnson expressed concerns over conflicts of interest, including noting that Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicholas McQuaid was a partner with an attorney that has represented Hunter Biden.

They also pointed to information they said indicates that the Biden family may have “undue influence” over judicial officers in Delaware.

They asked for details such as how many employees under Weiss have recused from the Hunter Biden probe, which involves the younger Biden’s business dealings with China among other areas.

Instead of hearing from the office of Weiss, a Trump appointee, the lawmakers received a letter (pdf) dated June 9 sent by Peter Hyun, who is the acting assistant attorney general and is based in Washington.

Hyun noted he was responding to the senators’ letter to Weiss.

Hyun said the DOJ has previously outlined the agency’s policies with regards to ethics and recusal protocols.

“While the Department appreciates your interest in this matter, consistent with its policies, it will not be able to provide you with any further information regarding Department officials’ employment or specific recusal decisions,” he said.

“With respect to your remaining inquiries, while the Department strives to provide Congress with as much information as possible to satisfy its oversight interests, the Department also has a longstanding policy, spanning Administrations, not to confirm, deny, or comment on individual matters that may be under investigation, except under limited circumstances not applicable here,” he added.

“We hope this information is helpful. While we are unable to provide anything further on these topics, please do not hesitate to contact us on other matters where we may be able to be of assistance,” Hyun concluded.

Hunter Biden said in December 2020 that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware was “investigating my tax affairs.”

“Per DOJ policy, we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation,” the office said in response at the time.

Librarian Charged With Multiple HATE CRIMES For Spraypainting "Groomer" On MD Libraries Hosting Drag Events

A librarian who confessed to spraypainting "groomer" on two libraries targeting children with "Pride Story Time" events has been charged with "multiple hate crimes" and two counts of malicious destruction of property, Prince George's County Police announced on Thursday.

Prince George’s County Police detectives charged a man for vandalizing two public libraries in the county. These incidents occurred at the Greenbelt Branch Library and the New Carrollton Branch Library. The suspect is 30-year-old Charles Sutherland of Takoma Park.

The preliminary investigation revealed Sutherland spray-painted the word “groomer” on the exteriors of both buildings. The vandalism at the Greenbelt location occurred on June 4, 2022, and on June 9, 2022, at the branch in New Carrollton.

The PGPD assumed the investigation into these incidents on June 15, 2022.

Sutherland is charged with two counts of malicious destruction of property and multiple hate crimes related to defacing the building. He has confessed to the incidents.

Prince George's County is one of the most violent, high-crime areas in all of Maryland in large part due to their soft-on-crime policies treating hardened thugs like "gentle giants" but they'll throw the book at anyone who protests Drag Queen Grooming Hour.

‘Betraying the American people’: Leaked video reveals Joe Biden’s ‘hush hush’ migrant invasion

While Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi go all out to protect Ukraine’s national sovereignty, at the same time they are orchestrating a clandestine invasion of America across the southern border.

Two million illegal immigrants from dozens of countries crossed over from Mexico last year, and the Biden administration is facilitating the cartels’ people-smuggling operation — at taxpayer expense.

Under cover of darkness, every night the federal government is transporting illegal migrants as fast as it can away from the border on secret charter flights into unsuspecting communities around the country. Officials have lied and obstructed the few journalists who have tried to reveal the truth.

This is nothing short of a betrayal of the American people.

And that’s not just me saying it — those are exactly the words of one federal government contractor employed to transport migrants from the southern border to the airport in White Plains.

“The government is betraying the American people,” the contractor told a Westchester County police officer in a conversation that was recorded on the cop’s bodycam on the tarmac of the county airport on Aug. 13, 2021. The men were standing beside a Boeing 737 flown in from Fort Bliss, Texas, by iAero Airways under charter by the federal government.

Damning footage

The 51-minute footage was obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request by former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, a Republican candidate for governor in 2022.

Throughout the footage, police Sgt. Michael Hamborsky expresses frustration that local police have been given no information about the flights arriving after curfew at the airport, in breach of security protocols.

“You’re on a secure facility here; we really don’t know anything and we’re in charge of security,” he tells one of the federal contractors.

“This is anti all our security stuff.”

The iAero flight that so puzzled Hamborsky that night was just one of the almost nightly charter flights that began shuttling migrants into the suburban Westchester airport after curfew from places like McAllen, El Paso and Houston, Texas, last year beginning at least as far back as Aug. 8. The flights stopped only after The Post revealed their existence in late October.

The bodycam footage shows Hamborsky courteously but persistently questioning a dozen federal contractors who are bustling around the tarmac overseeing migrants disembarking and boarding American Dream charter buses waiting on the tarmac between about 6:15 and 7 a.m.

Hamborsky ascertains that the plane arrived at 11:48 p.m. the previous night with 142 migrants on board.

Also on board were 12 “chaperones” — employees of MVM Inc., a controversial private security firm that was a major contractor for the CIA and the NSA in Iraq, and which last year signed a $136 million contract with the federal government to transport illegal migrants and unaccompanied children around the country.

The bodycam begins in the pre-dawn darkness at 6:09 a.m. when Hamborsky parks his squad car on the airfield next to the hangar of Ross Aviation, whose employees are assisting with refueling the plane.

More Vaccine-Injured Pilots Speak Out as Groups Pressure Airlines, Regulators to End Mandates

In exclusive interviews with The Defender, more commercial airline pilots discuss COVID-19 vaccine injuries and the “hostile” industry environment injured and unvaxxed pilots must navigate.

Sharp chest pains. Myocarditis and pericarditis. Heart attacks. Strokes and subsequent blindness.

These are just some of the many COVID-19 vaccine-related adverse events reported by commercial airline pilots and by a growing number of advocacy groups representing aviation industry workers.

According to these individuals and groups, the number of pilots speaking out about their vaccine injuries is dwarfed by the number of pilots who are still flying despite experiencing concerning symptoms — but not speaking out because of what they describe as a culture of intimidation within the aviation industry.

These individuals fear they will lose their jobs and livelihoods in retaliation if they reveal their symptoms or go public with their stories, sources told The Defender.

Still, a growing number of pilots are coming forward.

Last month, The Defender published the accounts of several pilots — and of the widow of a pilot who died from a vaccine-related adverse event.

Since then, more pilots have shared their stories, including one who is currently flying for a commercial airline.

A growing number of advocacy organizations, representing workers across the aviation industry and in several countries, are joining these pilots in speaking out.

The Defender previously reported on actions by the U.S. Freedom Flyers (USFF) and other legal advocates in the U.S.

Since then, representatives from the Global Aviation Advocacy Coalition (GAA) and the Canada-based Free To Fly also spoke with The Defender about their initiatives.

Meanwhile, pilots in Canada and the Netherlands recently reported significant legal victories in separate vaccine-related cases.

More pilots come forward, speak to The Defender

Steven Hornsby, a 52-year-old pilot with a legacy passenger airline company, was once an active weightlifter and cyclist, biking 10-26 miles every other day.

He is also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and Operation Enduring Freedom. Per FAA requirements, he passed 24 medical exams in the past 12 years, including 12 electrocardiograms (ECGs).

Hornsby told The Defender, “I’ve never had any cardiovascular issues in my life, nor have I ever had any major health issues … I eat healthy and live what I believe to be a balanced lifestyle.”

Hornsby, however, is not flying today because, he said, he was “coerced … to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” and his employer “made it very clear that all employees would be required to get it and that medical/religious exemptions would be very difficult to get.”

Hornsby’s difficulties began after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Western Intelligence Agencies Stole 97 Billion Global Internet Data in Just 30 Days

Western intelligence agencies are once again acting illegally, stealing data around the world and violating the sovereignty of the countries.

In a recent report revealed by the Chinese media, details of the data capture power of the so-called “Five Eyes”, the data sharing network of the secret services of the five Anglophone powers, were shown. In just a month, billions of data were stolen, and phone calls violated, creating a scenario of insecurity of privacy around the planet.

The report comes from a cybersecurity agency called Anzer, which gave information to the Chinese newspaper Global Times last Monday, June 13th.

In all, 97 billion global internet data were stolen, in addition to 124 billion phone records infringed in the last thirty days alone. The main agencies reported by Anzer are US intelligence organizations, but there is also involvement of all agents participating in the scope of the “Five Eyes”, which brings together the secret services of the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

According to Anzer’s agents, such clandestine operations – called “black hand operations” – are mostly carried out by Tailored Access Operations (TAO), which is the cyber warfare agency that directly serves the US National Security Agency (NSA).

The report says that recently increasingly powerful cyber weapons have been used in data theft operations, being capable of indiscriminately capturing information from billions of internet users around the world simultaneously.

An anonymous expert quoted by Global Times commented on the topic saying:

“The NSA’s global indiscriminate intrusion has long been supported by a vast and sophisticated network of weapons platforms, of which TAO is an important weapon maker.
