by Editorial March 13, 2019

The elected president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, along with his entourage, arrived in Mexico aboard a private plane, with registration XA – EZI.Later they were received by authorities of the Foreign Ministry of that country.

According to Mexican public records, that plane, a Bombardier Challenger 300, is operated by the company Tomazajet SA de CV, based at the Toluca international airport.

It is unknown if the aircraft was transferred by a businessman, group of businessmen or if it was rented in El Salvador for this trip.

Bukele held a meeting on Tuesday with the Mexican leader, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in which they agreed to "deepen bilateral collaboration on priority issues such as economic and social development in northern Central America and southern Mexico, through the Program of Comprehensive Development, migratory management and the promotion of trade”, according to an official statement from the Presidency of that country.

Bukele's visit to López Obrador is part of the tour he has been on since Monday seeking to strengthen cooperation between the countries of the Northern Triangle: El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras with the United States, with the aim of curbing "forced migration," he explained. Bukele through his social networks and in an official statement.

“We come to talk about mutual things. There are many Mexican investments in El Salvador, we want them to be more. We also want Salvadorans to invest here in Mexico, there are also pressing things that are urgent”, he stated.

“We are basically in the same situation as forced migration, I think that both President López Obrador and we want to reduce migration in the right way; that is, generating opportunities, generating development, generating security in our country”, he added.

After having lunch with López Obrador, whom Bukele thanked for receiving him and from whom he affirms that he "learned a lot," the president-elect wrote on his Twitter account: "I hope that soon we can implement the projects that help our peoples move forward."

In the official account of the Mexican government, it was reported yesterday that both politicians discussed three central aspects in which they will deepen bilateral collaboration. The priority issues are: “Integral Development Program, Regional Economic Integration and Migratory Flows”.

"Presidents López Obrador and Nayib Bukele will review the progress of the Comprehensive Development Plan, with the aim of generating opportunities and improving the quality of life in Central America," the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on Twitter.

They added that the visit also served to "strengthen the historical ties of friendship and cooperation of both nations."

The Mexican presidential statement details that López Obrador promised Bukele to send a distinguished representation of the Mexican government on June 1 when Bukele takes office as president of El Salvador.

“The head of the federal Executive recalled the historical ties that unite Mexico with El Salvador, and assured a promising future in the course of his administrations. Similarly, he confirmed that Mexico will be represented at the highest level at the inauguration ceremony on June 1 in San Salvador,” according to the statement.

Bukele also met with the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, with whom he discussed the progress of the Comprehensive Development Program, attention to migratory flows, economic integration and other priority regional issues.

During his visit, he had the opportunity to talk with Mexican businessmen, "with whom he had a frank dialogue about growth opportunities in the Mexican and Salvadoran markets," details the statement from the Mexican Presidency.

When consulted by Mexican journalists about his opinion of President Nicolás Maduro, of Venezuela; Bukele replied: “Unfortunately, I have always considered Maduro a dictator. I don't see it as an example or as something good for Latin America. I have no respect for the president (Maduro), "he explained.
