theory:

plane passes across the camera (20 second exposure) at almost the exact trajectory as the angle of the camera.

This makes it appear as if the line is moving upwards instead of across.

photo was at dawn. the con trail is reflecting an orange sunrise (which you can see in the water)

Believe it or not just last night I was looking out my living room window and had this exact experience.

I'm 99% sure the 'missile' thing is a red herring.

It's a plane caught on a long exposure with con trail reflecting sunrise.

It's a plane. to be exact it is the very plane in pic related.

See the orange reflection in the water in the bottom left hand corner of missile pic? That the sun rise. The contrail of the plane is reflecting the orange sun

It was a 20 second exposure because the camera takes night photos. long exposures would capture the movement exactly like you see it in the photo.

see the map? the red circle is the camera.

the blue circle is Whidbey.

See the plane's flight path? directly across the camera's line of sight. That makes the contrail appear as if it is going UP.

I'm not GUESSING at the trajectory of the plane - it's there for you to see. same with the camera angle.

I sat in my own living room LAST NIGHT and watched a plane do this. I didn't know WTF it was at first, but there it was - a plane coming right at me but it looked as if it were shooting into space.

I should have gotten my camera
