Well, the background story for the Knights of Malta traces a nearly identical plotline as the Knight Templars, the Rosicrucians, and other secret societies like the Freemasons. In modern times, you can compare them all of these past secretive organizations to of the world's intelligence agencies, CIA, FBI, etc., and continue all the way down to the street levels like Black Lives Matter, Antifa, Proud Boys, and even this new one in the news today "Patriot Front."
I like the name for this new one the best, because they call it a "Front."
A "Front" is something that is Pretend, something that falsely represents itself as one thing, because it's true nature is actually quite the opposite of its outward appearance. A front is used by people trying to hide something about themselves.

Though each one of these organizations have different operating parameters, purposes, and wear different costumes, they are all serving the same Elites that wishes to remain hidden behind the scenes. These groups all work to serve the eye, or the top of the pyramid.
One interesting aspect of their required service is illustrated by the Knights of Malta and their Roman Emperor, The Royalty of Sicily, and the Vatican: The idea of TRIBUTE to their master.
The Grand Master of the Order of St John of Jerusalem had to pay an annual tribute to the Emperor Charles V and his mother Queen Joanna of Castile as monarchs of Sicily, for the granting of Tripoli, Malta and Gozo. There were also other conditions. The annual tribute payable on All Saints day (1 November) was one falcon. The grant was made at Castel Franco and is dated "the 23rd day of the month of March, Third Indiction, in the Year of Our Lord 1530; in the 10th year of our reign as Emperor, the 27th as King of Castile, Granada etc., the 16th of Navarre, the 15th of Aragon, the Two Sicilies, Jerusalem and all our other realms".

Note the 1930 Dashiell Hammett novel The Maltese Falcon, as well as in the 1941 film adaptation. The Maltese Facon is essentially worthless. But it is important still, because it is aSYMBOLICTribute. It is an affirmation of loyalty to their masters. Think about comms might be used for this, using terms such as "being grateful for the vax", "concrete," etc…. Concrete is very strong, solid, right?
