The longest running "confusion" I had about TV/Movies was from watching some Made for TV movie, that said it was "Based on a True Story". I asked my dad what that meant, and he said it meant that "It really happened".
I took that to mean that what ever you saw really happened. So the scene in the movie where the woman gets a glass broken in her face, I thought they actually, literally broke a bottle on her face just to film someone getting a bottle smashed on their face.
I was always in a perpetual state of confusion as a child, I'm starting to see why haaaahaaha
