Anything that would allow you to presolve the captcha would allow the bot to do the same. The key to stopping it is changing it often for totally different captcha systems. That forces to bot to be rewritten so it will work.

If I was writing it, id try and post and if it didn't work, then I'd look for the captcha. I think that the board is either set up where an admin/bo/bv doesn't have to use the captcha and it's one of them, or the bot dev has figured out how to bypass or solve it.
I was under the impression that the captcha actually worked against the bot, it was just a pain in the ass for anons.

If Jim randomized the name of the captcha image so that bot couldn't find it and upload to a captcha solving service, then it would make it much more difficult for the bot.

The way a captcha solving service works is that the bot tries to post and is presented with a captcha. The bot is able to find the captcha image somehow, by it's name, or special css, or navigating the dom. If Jim makes it so that it's harder for the bot to find the image it needs to upload to the captcha service then the threat is mitigated.
Just changing it to something else isn't good enough. It needs to be randomized somehow so that the bot can't adapt. It's already adapted several times. Used to post all PB links, now posts links in this bread. Used to not post images, now posts images.
