CIA sued over alleged spying on lawyers, journalists who met Assange

WASHINGTON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - A group of journalists and lawyers sued the CIA and its former director Mike Pompeo over allegations the intelligence agency spied on them when they visited WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during his stay in Ecuador's embassy in London.

The lawsuit said that CIA under Pompeo violated the privacy rights of those American journalists and lawyers by allegedly spying on them. The plaintiffs include journalists Charles Glass and John Goetz and attorneys Margaret Kunstler and Deborah Hrbek, who have represented Assange.

Indiana governor latest U.S. official to visit Taiwan amid China tensions

Governor Eric Holcomb tweeted that he would also be visiting South Korea, while Taiwan's presidential office said he would meet President Tsai Ing-wen on Monday morning.

Biden Energy secretary says US will be at ‘record’ oil production next year

Granholm told “Fox News Sunday” host Trace Gallagher the U.S. will be producing around 12.7 million barrels per day by 2023, up from the current rate of under 12 million barrels per day.

Granholm said on Sunday that President Biden’s release of 1 million barrels of oil a day from the strategic reserves and his call for the oil sector to increase production were vital to lowering gas prices across the country.

“The release of a million barrels per day is the biggest tool at our disposal,” Granholm said. “That’s why the president has called for this increase in releasing and increase in production.”
