On 24 June, at the Hudson Institute in Washington, Mike Pompeo gave a foreign policy speech entitled The Three Lighthouses - painting Taiwan, Ukraine and "Israel" as ‘beacons of freedom’. US neo-cons have always had a knack for hitching their undiluted authoritarian projects to whatever the latest cult western ‘virtue’ sloganeering, and thus manage to set a media narrative.

Since the early days of Covid, the words vulnerability, solidarity and care that have been in circulation amongst ‘performatively compassionate’ élites in respect to the biomedical régime were consolidated into a broader narrative for bullying the public into compliance with novel ‘sacrifice politics’. That is to say, ‘to be ready and willing to sacrifice your freedoms, to protect vulnerable groups: That is our solidarity … Your individual freedom ends, where collective freedom begins’.

What cant from Pompeo to use protecting ‘freedom’ amongst this group of ‘vulnerable Lighthouses’ aims to disguise a neo-conservative project which has caused the loss of life, loss of rights, loss of income, and psychological damage to many of those living adjacent to these Lighthouse ‘Trojan’ horses. Of course, “protecting the vulnerable” by destroying others’ livelihoods and lives was always an illogical proposition. Its true aim is merely to rally public support for belligerent action against Chinese, Russian and Iranian strengths.

And yet, in Pompeo’s awkward linguistic formulation, there lies the kernel of an obverse linkage between the three: Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taipei has awakened the slumbering Dragon. It now sees clearly the parallels between Taiwan and Ukraine. Since the beginning of the 20th Century, the West established several extraterritorial jurisdictions (the Concessions) inside of China that served to fragment and weaken it.

Beijing sees now that the US intends to do everything possible to ensure that a peaceful reunification of Taiwan with the Mainland never takes place, and that today’s US policy is but an extension of an old colonial strategy.

This has lent China a better understanding of the Ukraine issue: Where the West since the early 20th Century sought to leverage hard-right ethnic Ukrainian nationalism against culturally-Russian Ukrainians, in order to weaken Russia.

Like China towards Taiwan, Moscow understood that the US and its European allies would do everything possible to forestall any peaceful unification of the diverse peoples of this borderland region (as the Minsk Accords had aimed to do).

The Chinese response to the Pelosi visit has been “that the noose around the neck of Taiwan’s independence” will be tightened, tighter and tighter, as Minister Wang Yi warned, adding “there is no room for compromise” on this matter.

Li Fei, a Professor at Xiamen University, has conceptualized what he calls ‘the Peking model’ that has given Beijing a notion of ‘smart reunification’ – an approach that combines peaceful efforts and military strength. Such an approach needs to be carried out step by step, and normalizing the current military drills around the island is one step forward. If ‘smart reunification’ still cannot realize our final goal, he added, a more direct approach based on strength will be needed. (In January 1949, the PLA encircled Peking, which was then occupied by the KMT forces, and eventually forced the KMT commanders to surrender, so the liberation of the city indeed did occur peacefully …).

In sum, Iran doesn’t have explicitly to tighten the noose at this moment. A new, broad-tent geo-strategic architecture led by Moscow, that is being drawn across the Region, is doing that fine for Iran anyway.

Swiss Police: Riots may occur this winter due to energy shortages

The Swiss police chief, Fredy Fassler, said on Saturday that people in Switzerland may go on riots if energy shortages occur in the upcoming winter.

"Power outage… will have serious consequences. Imagine the situation when we can no longer withdraw money from ATMs, we can no longer pay by card in a store or refuel at a gas station. The heaters are no longer working. The streets are all dark. In that case, it would be possible to imagine that the population would rebel," Fassler told the Blick newspaper.

"Switzerland is actively preparing for the threat of an electricity shortage in the winter. The energy supply is at the center of attention," he added.

The Swiss Federal Council decided on Wednesday that power plant operators could negotiate contracts for the use of backup power plants in the event of an electricity shortage this winter. Swiss authorities have warned that for the first time they may impose restrictions on energy consumption in the coming winter if electricity or gas shortages occur.

Previously, the head of the Swiss Federal Electricity Commission ElCom, Werner Luginbuhl, urged citizens to stock up on candles and firewood due to possible power outages in the country in the coming winter.

Since 2021, energy prices in Europe have been rising rapidly following a global trend. After Russia launched a military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine and the imposition of several sanctions packages against Moscow, the energy situation deteriorated considerably, prompting EU countries to search for alternatives to Russian energy supplies.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Russia's oil output returned to pre-war levels, producing around 10.8 million barrels a day, with new crude oil exports directed to Asia, most notably India, Turkey and other Middle Eastern countries.

A large explosion tore into an SUV on a highway 20 km away west of Moscow, instantly killing its driver, who was identified as political commentator Darya Dugina, Russian political analyst and thinker Alexander Dugin's daughter. As for the cause of the explosion, preliminary reports suggest that a homemade explosive device may be involved, however, investigators have not yet confirmed it.

On Saturday evening, Dugin was giving a lecture in Moscow on "Tradition and History" at a traditional family festival in Moscow; Dugina attended the event as a guest. Reports are claiming that Dugin planned to leave the festival with his daughter, but instead took a separate car. Darya took her father's Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Darya, in July 2022, was placed on the UK sanctions list. Her father in 2014 and 2015 was sanctioned by the EU, US, and Canada.

Dugina assassination could have Ukrainian trace, investigation opened

The Russian Investigative Committee reported on Sunday morning that a criminal case has been opened in connection with the assassination of Aleksandr Dugin's daughter, Darya Dugina.

Darya Dugina, 30, has been formally identified as the victim of the explosion outside Moscow, according to the agency.

According to authorities, a bomb blasted through her Toyota Land Cruiser outside the town of Bolshie Vyazemy in Moscow Region at 9:35 pm local time on Saturday. It is suspected that a bomb detonated inside the car, which subsequently caught fire. The Investigative Committee said that “The female driver, who was behind the wheel, has been killed on site.”

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, if the allegation of a Ukrainian connection to the death of journalist and political analyst Darya Dugina is confirmed by the appropriate authorities, Kiev is engaging in its policy of state terrorism.

"The Russian law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of Darya Dugina. If the Ukrainian trace is confirmed, and this version was voiced by DPR head Denis Pushilin, and it must be verified by the competent authorities, then we are talking about the policy of state terrorism implemented by the Kiev regime," Zakharova wrote on Telegram.

The FM spokesperson further recounted a variety of incidents throughout the years, ranging from political appeals for violence against the ruling class to the involvement of Ukrainian official entities in criminal activity.

"We are waiting for the results of the investigation," she concluded.

To explain such "counterstrike capabilities," Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party has previously stated that it intends to modify and partially classify the country's current National Security Strategy by the end of the year, with an emphasis on whether Japan may obtain weapons to strike enemy bases. Given Japan's defense-focused constitution's express renunciation of war, the topic is delicate.

The proposal, if implemented, would see US troops stationed on the Nansei Islands at a temporary attack base, with the SDF providing support in the form of additional troops if a military danger to Taiwan was near, according to Tokyo officials cited by the Kyodo news agency.

Crucifixion was originally designed by the Persians who became skillful at using it as a way to execute people in a very long, drawn out, torturous way. But it was really perfected by the Romans, who crucified tens of thousands of people. And, in fact, some historians tell us that as many as thirty thousand people were crucified by the Romans in and around the land of Israel around the time of our Lord. So the Jewish people were used to seeing people hanging on crosses in some part of the process of excruciating, bleeding, and suffocation.

The word “excruciating” actually has Latin roots, and in the middle of it is “crux” which is the Latin word for “cross.” So the very verb “to excruciate” or “excruciating” has in its center the cross. The cross defines what is excruciating.

It was not only an instrument of physical torture, but it was also a tool of degradation. To be suspended on high along a public highway totally naked, nailed by hand and foot, and left to bake in the sun while the gawking crowds looked up, to be attacked by birds and insects and end up as a kind of roadkill was about as degrading as anything that could ever be done to a human being. The Romans basically quelled potential revolt by making sure the roads were lined with crucified victims.

The cross then was a diabolical device to torture criminals to death,with the exception of one cross. And the Christian gospel crossis not mythical, and it’s not mystical, and it’s not sentimental, and it’s not merely artistic, it is historical and it is real. And the Bible gives the history ofthat one cross that has become a symbol of beauty.

Hanford nuclear reservation worker reports UFO sighting south of Mattawa

According to the Tri-City Herald, a Hanford nuclear reservation worker witnessed something uncanny in over the skies near the Grant County border last week. The newspaper explained that an employee had reported what they saw to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). At 4:40 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2022 the reporting party was driving north across the site and was jolted by the spectacle of what looked like a vertical, cigar-shaped object with lights hovering at an altitude of roughly 500 feet in the air.

“As I was looking at it, it disappeared,” the worker wrote in his report. However, the person went on to write that what was apparently the same object, “reappeared much closer and directly on top of me.”

The Hanford worker went on to state that the unidentified flying object was about 100 to 300 feet long.

With about 200 reported UFO sightings in Washington state this year, the Tri-City Herald reported in a lengthy feature piece that the Hanford area is no stranger to what some may perceive as extra-terrestrial in the skies over Hanford.

Dugina's murder

Earlier, law enforcement agencies told sources that a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado car exploded near the village of Bolshiye Vyazemy. The female driver was killed. Court Rules Taxpayers Can Sue IRS For Violating Constitutional Rights On Data Collection

The First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals just issued a ruling that taxpayers will be able to take the IRS to court for violating their rights with data collection.

The court ruled that the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire was wrong to dismiss the court challenge based on an alleged lack of jurisdiction.

Until now, the IRS has prevented federal courts from allowing any significant challenge to the IRS’ data-collection practices.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit has unanimously ruled in Harper v. Rettig that taxpayer James Harper can take the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to federal court for gathering private financial information about his use of virtual currency from third-party exchanges without a lawful subpoena.

IRS has, until now, successfully prevented federal courts from asserting jurisdiction over a significant constitutional challenge to the agency’s unlawful data-collection practices. The First Circuit ruled that the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire erred in its March 2021 decision granting IRS’s motion to dismiss Mr. Harper’s Fourth and Fifth Amendment challenge based on an alleged lack of jurisdiction. The district court did not have the benefit of the Supreme Court’s May 2021 decision in CIC Services, LLC v. IRS, which concluded that the Anti-Injunction Act (AIA) does not prohibit a suit “seeking to set aside an information-reporting requirement that is backed by both civil tax penalties and criminal penalties.” Mr. Harper’s suit, which seeks to set aside IRS’s illegal information gathering, is likewise not a suit brought to enjoin a tax’s assessment or collection, so it is not subject to the AIA’s limits on court jurisdiction.

Judge Kermit Lipez, writing for the majority, rejects IRS’s argument that the AIA bars Mr. Harper’s suit because it seeks to restrain activities related to the assessment or collection of taxes. He notes that CIC Services provides clarity that “information gathering” is a “phase of tax administration procedure that occurs before assessment [or] collection.” Judge Lipez concludes that since IRS’s activities against Mr. Harper “clearly fall within the category of information gathering … the [AIA] is not an applicable exception to the United States’ waiver of sovereign immunity.” Indeed, as the Supreme Court explained in CIC Services, where, as here, there is no “tax penalty” at issue, then the case is a “cinch,” and “the suit c[an] proceed.”

Mr. Harper had contracted with third-party virtual currency exchanges to protect his private information against unlawful government intrusion. Despite his efforts to ensure his records were properly safeguarded, IRS took the data of Mr. Harper and thousands of other cryptocurrency holders from virtual-currency exchanges without reasonable suspicion and without providing a pre-data-collection notice and opportunity to contest IRS’s dragnet operation. In ruling that the district court has subject-matter jurisdiction, the First Circuit has ensured that the IRS can be held accountable for this violation of Harper’s Fourth and Fifth Amendment constitutional rights.
