People like that don’t know any “straight white males” like myself and others where I am from. They are isolated in their elitist circles and have no idea of the challenges and the beauty of those challenges that people like us face. We’re from the backwoods, the mountains, the Deep South, flyover county, midwesterners, the northeast, the southwest, Washington, Oregon, Cali, even a puddle jump over to Hawaii and in the great state of Alaska. We’re everywhere and we don’t have a silver spoon. We’re hard working honest people who just want to make a living to support our families and to be left alone. We face ridicule, hardships, uncertain times with faith in our Creator, knowing He will not burden us beyond what we can bare and that, when all is said and done, the beauty of His blessings will shine so bright that even our darkest moments cannot compare. We face daily opposition to our values, never wishing harm on anyone else because of theirs, but constantly harassed for ours. Our own government and media has facilitated this harassment and has become a machine aligned and weaponized against our very way of life. We take blow after blow after blow and the machine just gets bigger and more violent. They’ve even decided to weaponize the lRS against us, both in the literal and figurative sense. Yet we push on, striving to provide for our families and to serve the nation we love beyond comprehension. Why should we continue to put up with all of this for a nation that has declared we deplorables the enemy? Well, some may eventually give in to the old adage of “if you can’t beat them join them”, and who could even blame them? Nevertheless, for those of us so-called “privileged” people who understand what I am saying, we continue to put up with this because our love of country exceeds all of the hatred and vitriol those who wish to hijack her can dish out. We know this nation is a special nation blessed by God Almighty Himself and we know that He will never leave or forsake us. To us, this nation is STILL worth fighting for and a hill that we are willing to die on. So call us “privileged” if you wish. Maybe we are, in fact “privileged”. Privileged to know the Creator God of the universe, the same God who established these United States by His divine providence, and “privileged” to fight for this very nation He established.

All wrong anon. Many men, kingdoms, powers, etc have attempted to destroy, discredit, twist the Bible, but all have failed. Now there may be some poor translations in some versions, but that’s actually the beauty of having multiple versions; the poor translation in one version is better translated in another and, with adequate due diligence one can ascertain true meaning. That’s one reason why it’s so important to have Pastors and teachers. Of course there are many wolves within ministry but God has a way of exposing them in ways that even the simplest man can understand. I’m getting off topic though. The primary point is that, despite Satan’s best efforts to deceive and to inspire shrewd men to deceive, the Bible in the motel room drawer is preserved better than any other historical book. It’s authority is thereby intact. God has protected His Word throughout the ages so that we can access it to this very day and can be assured that it is Truth. To say that the Bible is corrupted is to say deny God’s power to preserve it. Be very careful with those sorts of accusations anon.

The Cross is the bridge to redeem humanity and to make us right with God. You may not understand why it had to be that way but God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. The Cross, while a stark reminder of humanities wickedness and brutality, is also a beautiful symbol of God’s mercy and love for us. We do not deserve his mercy and love but He gives it to us anyway. That’s Grace. The Cross represents that Grace. Anyone who is ultimately condemned to Hell will have to step over the blood stained Cross at Calvary to get there.

Behind me you see a large cross. That is the symbol of Christianity. That’s all the decoration that I ever wanted in this building when we built it back in 1978, just a cross. The cross has been the symbol of Christianity since our Lord’s death. It stands atop churches around the world. There are massive crosses around the globe that have in recent years become an offense, more of them than public view being removed. But the cross descends from the top of churches all the way down to people’s necks. Beautiful little crosses become jewelry, and we wear them because we believe they symbolize beauty.It’s an odd thing, because no one has a guillotine around their neck, at least not as jewelry.

I don’t think there’s any other torture instrument that’s ever been invented by man that someone wears as jewelry or as some kind of adornment or conceives to be beautiful. But that’s what happens with the cross. The cross may be the most heinous and horrendous and horrific of all torture instruments ever devised by man. Should be a symbol of shame, butit has become a symbol of love, and joy, and peace, and beauty, and grace, and eternal salvation.

And that is, on its face, odd for a torture instrument to end up so considered. Crucifixion was originally designed by the Persians who became skillful at using it as a way to execute people in a very long, drawn out, torturous way. But it was really perfected by the Romans, who crucified tens of thousands of people. And, in fact, some historians tell us that as many as thirty thousand people were crucified by the Romans in and around the land of Israel around the time of our Lord. So the Jewish people were used to seeing people hanging on crosses in some part of the process of excruciating, bleeding, and suffocation.

The word “excruciating” actually has Latin roots, and in the middle of it is “crux” which is the Latin word for “cross.” So the very verb “to excruciate” or “excruciating” has in its center the cross. The cross defines what is excruciating.

It was not only an instrument of physical torture, but it was also a tool of degradation. To be suspended on high along a public highway totally naked, nailed by hand and foot, and left to bake in the sun while the gawking crowds looked up, to be attacked by birds and insects and end up as a kind of roadkill was about as degrading as anything that could ever be done to a human being. The Romans basically quelled potential revolt by making sure the roads were lined with crucified victims.

The cross then was a diabolical device to torture criminals to death,with the exception of one cross. One cross was a divine device to deliver sinners from death and endless torture, and that is the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.And we rejoice in that cross. We write songs like “At the Cross,” and “Near the Cross,” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “The Wonderful Cross,” and “Hallelujah for the Cross.” And there’s one we sung earlier, “The Power of the Cross.” We heard the choir sing, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” goes back to Isaac Watts in 1707, and he wrote it after reading Galatians 6:14. And the Christian gospel crossis not mythical, and it’s not mystical, and it’s not sentimental, and it’s not merely artistic, it is historical and it is real. And the Bible gives the history ofthat one cross that has become a symbol of beauty.
