Top FBI agent resigns amid claims he shielded Hunter Biden from probe: report

A top FBI agent at the Washington field office reportedly resigned from his post last week after facing intense scrutiny over allegations he helped shield Hunter Biden from criminal investigations into his laptop and business dealings.

Timothy Thibault, an FBI assistant special agent in charge, was allegedly forced out after he was accused of political bias in his handling of probes involving President Biden’s son, sources told the Washington Times on Monday.

The agent was escorted out of the field office by at least two “headquarters-looking types” last Friday, the sources said.

Thibault and the FBI didn’t immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment on Monday.

Thibault, a 25-year-veteran, had already been on leave for a month after the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), started raising concerns about whistleblower claims the FBI had obstructed its own investigations into the first son.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray in July, Grassley said Thibault and FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten were allegedly involved in “a scheme” to “undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation.”

Thibault also allegedly tried to kill off a valid avenue of investigation of possible Hunter Biden criminality up until at least one month before the Nov. 2020 election, according to Grassley.

“Thibault allegedly ordered the matter closed without providing a valid reason as required by FBI guidelines…. [and] subsequently attempted to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future,” Grassley wrote.

It was the same month The Post first started reporting on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop, which included troves of emails related to his shady overseas business dealings.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed last week that the social media giant suppressed The Post’s bombshell Hunter Biden report following a vague FBI warning about possible “Russian propaganda” tied to the 2020 presidential election.

The agent was reportedly escorted out of the bureau by at least two “headquarters-looking types” last Friday, sources said.

Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has been raising concerns about whistleblower claims the FBI had obstructed its own investigations into the first son.

“Basically, the background here is the FBI, I think, basically came to us — some folks on our team — and was like, ‘Hey, just so you know, like, you should be on high alert,’” Zuckerberg told “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

Zuckerberg said the FBI added, “‘We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that, basically, there’s about to be some kind of dump that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.’”

Meanwhile, Republican senators have also publicly scrutinized Thibault’s alleged anti-Trump social media activity ahead of the 2020 election, including a retweet of a Lincoln Project message that called Donald Trump a “psychologically broken, embittered and deeply unhappy man.”

He also allegedly tweeted that he wanted to “give Kentucky to the Russian Federation.”

Wray admitted under grilling from GOP senators earlier this month that allegations of political bias at the hands of FBI agents, including Thibault, was “deeply troubling.”

4 Out of 5 Americans Reportedly Think Hunter Biden Laptop Story Being Suppressed Changed the Outcome of 2020 Election

79% of Americans believe not censoring Hunter Biden laptop story would have changed election outcome: survey

According to a survey conducted by the TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP), 79% of Americans believe “truthful” coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story, had it not been censored by Big Tech, would have changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

The recently published survey was based on the responses of people who claimed that they were “very” or “somewhat” closely following the laptop story.

Overall, 79% of the respondents said that a “truthful interpretation” of the laptop story would have “very” or “somewhat” likely resulted in the reelection of former President Donald Trump.

Of the 79%, 57% of Republicans believed Trump would have won, compared to 44% of Democrats and 48% of independents.

A majority, 89% of Republicans, 74% of independents, and 61% of Democrats, said they believe the laptop story “is real.” Only 11% said that they believe the story was “created by Russia.”

81% of the respondents said that US Attorney General Merrick Garland should open an investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop, whose contents were first reported by the New York Post.

The spread of the story was restricted on mainstream social media platforms, with Twitter going to the extent of banning it entirely and suspending the Post’s account.

On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and said the FBI had warned Facebook of an imminent “dump” of “Russian propaganda” shortly before the Hunter Biden story broke, which caused them to decide to censor it.

Who is FBI Agent Timothy Thibault?

Posted on August 29, 2022 by Constitutional Nobody

Just The News and other media outlets are reporting that Tim Thibault — FBI Washington Field Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge — was escorted from bureau premises on Friday. According to Ben Whedon of JTN, the reported removal of Thibault comes “amid whistleblower allegations that he showed political bias in his handling of politically sensitive investigations.”

The Washington Times reported eyewitness accounts that “Mr. Thibault was seen exiting the bureau’s elevator last Friday escorted by two or three ‘headquarters-looking types.’” The article appears to have been updated and now states that Thibault “abruptly resigned” but that he was “forced to leave his post” and cites two unnamed former FBI officials.

Whistleblowers alleged that Thibault concealed the partisan nature of evidence from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to secure their approval to open an investigation into former President Donald Trump. That investigation culminated in the FBI’s raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate earlier this month.

As we know, there have been numerous reports in recent months leading up to the Mar-A-Lago raid of FBI whistleblowers reaching out to Congressional offices complaining of a political environment that allegedly sought to downplay negative news about the president’s son Crackhead Hunter Biden and his now infamous laptop. GOP Senator from Iowa Chuck Grassley, the ranking Republican member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote a letter July 25 to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland detailing the allegations he said were voluminous and consistent enough to be credible.

In October 2020, one month before the election, “an avenue of derogatory Crackhead Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed” by a senior FBI agent at the bureau’s Washington Field office. An earlier letter from Grassley identified the agent as Timothy Thibault.

“[T]he allegations provided to my office appear to indicate that there was a scheme in place among certain FBI officials to undermine derogatory information connected to Crackhead Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation,” Grassley claimed.

He said whistleblowers from federal law enforcement came forward to his office after a May 31 letter he had written noted a “pattern of active public partisanship in his then public social media content,” in reference to Thibault.

In that May 31 letter, Grassley also accused Thibault of likely violations of “[f]ederal laws, regulations and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines.”

“Whistleblowers have reported to me, that although the FBI and Justice Department maintain policies dictating specific standards requiring substantial factual predication to initiate an investigation, Thibault and other Justice Department and FBI employees failed to comply with these requirements.”

FBI whistleblowers seem to have fingered Thibault as the partisan hack protecting Hunter. The FBI, we now know, were recently identified by Meta CEO Tyrant Mark Zuckerberg as the reason Fake-Fact-Checker Facebook downplayed the laptop story pre-election because the social media company had the impression the laptop story was considered misinformation. But It turns out Thibault has also been involved in some other interesting work on behalf of the agency. Here’s a clip from the FBI Portland twitter account in which Thibault, rather hilariously in hindsight, talks about what the FBI had been doing to combat election fraud.

The agent in this video, Timothy Thibault… just resigned after being accused of partisan social media activity and efforts to suppress information in the probe into the Crackhead Hunter Biden’s business activities. https://t.co/9VH2Og28xN

As news breaks the DOJ is admitting some documents seized at Trump’s Florida home could be covered by attorney-client privilege, the FBI whistleblowers seem to have struck a very large blow against an agency that has been behaving in ways seemingly outside their enforcement purview. Republican Rep. Jim Jordon of Ohio, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, has also been fielding FBI whistleblower allegations and has indicated his intention, should the GOP win the House in November, to investigate both the agency itself and the Justice Department in general.

What the Hell Has Happened to the FBI? Chapter 342,872…

June 1, 20228:48 AM

The senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee is demanding that the Justice Department and the FBI investigate the bureau’s top agent in Washington, D.C., over his social-media posts, which are highly partisan — I know, I know, you’ll never guess for which side!

Tim Thibault runs the FBI’s Washington field office which, naturally, handles many of federal law enforcement’s most politically charged investigations. He’s been at the FBI for a quarter-century, is a longtime supervisory agent, and also held top counterterrorism posts.

Turns out, agent Thibault has a very active, highly political presence on LinkedIn, among other platforms. And no, to scrutinize that presence is not to deny that police officials are American citizens who, like everyone else, are entitled to have and to express political views. To attract people to his social-media accounts, Thibault appears to be brandishing his FBI credentials, with the implication that his status and experience give him special insight into the subjects of his dingbattery.

There are about a million regulations that prohibit FBI agents from engaging in political commentary that could undermine public confidence that the FBI is a non-partisan, apolitical investigative agency. Agents are strictly forbidden from exploiting their status as FBI officials to promote their political, commercial, and other private-sphere activities. And unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past seven years, you may have heard that the bureau has been laboring under the weight of an enormous scandal, stemming from the political biases of FBI leadership and investigators, and the manner in which those biases influenced the conduct and public perception of the agency’s most consequential investigations.

As the Washington Examiner’s Jerry Dunleavy reports, Thibault’s public commentary takes aim at Republicans, the Trump administration, the Justice Department under then-attorney general Bill Barr, the American South, and the Catholic Church, among others. And upon perusing the trenchant observations in his oeuvre — e.g., “Can we give Kentucky to the Russian Federation?” — you can’t help but come away asking, “Who better to supervise and train junior investigators?”

Senator Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) has written to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI director Chris Wray, demanding both an inquiry and production of information about cases that Thibault has investigated and supervised. Senator Grassley is also asking the DOJ inspector-general Michael Horowitz to look into the matter. Recall that IG Horowitz has conducted several recent investigations into the FBI’s political bias, mishandling of politically charged cases, and abuse of its FISA surveillance authorities (see, e.g., here, here, here, here, and here).

As echoed by our editorial today on the Michael Sussmann acquittal, it is disheartening to watch, day after day, how infection by partisan politics has degraded a great American institution.
