Depends on what the purpose of a party is. I love setting a good table and providing good food. I also love swapping stories and learned experiences.
I don't see much purpose in parties one can't remember or that merely result in difficulty in paying the rent… or attending class the next day.
Parties, in my opinion, are for strengthening/maintaining social relations and establishing new ones. There are many ways one can successfully do this.
