Trump Attacks Fox News, Offers to Help CNN ‘Go Conservative’

 

Fox News’ glowing coverage of Trump is seen as one of the contributing factors to his run to the White House in 2016. The network was the favorite of 40% of Trump voters in 2016, compared to just 4% of Hillary supporters. Trump often called CNN ‘fake news’ during his presidency and campaign.

 

Former President Donald Trump took a shot at Fox News, the cable news station that was most favorable to him during his campaign and presidency. He also offered to help Fox News’ longtime rival, CNN, “go conservative.”

 

Trump made the comments on his Truth Social account, a social media website that counts Trump’s presence as its largest draw. Trump was suspended from Twitter after the January 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol building.

 

“[Fox] gets worse every single day. So many Dems interviewed with only softball questions, then Republican counterparts get creamed,” Trump posted on Sunday. He also accused the station of “pushing Democrats and the Democrat agenda.”

 

Trump then made his offer to CNN, saying that if it turned more conservative, it “would be a gold mine” for the “low ratings” network.

 

CNN has been attempting to appear less partisan since new CNN president Chris Licht took his post. White House Correspondent John Harwood and “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter left CNN recently, moves that are perceived as the news network attempting to be less confrontational in its political coverage.

 

Trump specifically called out long-time Republican strategist and current Fox News contributor Karl Rove, calling him a RINO, an acronym that stands for “Republican In Name Only.” Trump also claimed that Rove has “a big record of losing.” The comments came after Rove criticized Trump for his handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump’s residence was recently raided by the FBI, which seized more than 300 classified documents. Other Fox News personalities have also criticized the former president for his handling of the documents.

‘I know I shouldn’t do it’: Retired Teacher Sentenced To Nearly 6 Years In Prison For Child Sex Abuse Images

 

Jacksonville, Florida – Chief United States District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan has sentenced Michael Paul Gillis (65, Jacksonville) to 5 years and 10 months in federal prison for possessing images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of young children. The court also ordered Gillis to serve a 10-year term of supervised release, register as a sex offender, and forfeit his computer media. Gillis had pleaded guilty on April 27, 2022.

 

According to court documents and information provided in court, FBI agents were investigating individuals who were using a particular online network to share child sexual abuse materials. The investigation revealed that Gillis, a retired Jacksonville public school teacher, had accessed this network from his home.

 

On February 2, 2022, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Gillis’s home. Gillis, who was home at the time, admitted that he had been accessing child sexual abuse materials using the internet for the past 15 years, and that he had viewed materials depicting children as young as 3 years old. Gillis also stated that he viewed these images and videos while employed as a schoolteacher and would fantasize about touching children inappropriately but claimed that he had never acted on it. He acknowledged that he would continue to seek out these materials online because he would have “a hard time” stopping this behavior because it is an “urge.” “I know I shouldn’t do it,” he added.

 

During the execution of the search warrant, FBI personnel seized several computers belonging to Gillis that contained at least 2,000 images and 150 videos depicting infants, toddlers, and other young children being sexually abused.

 

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

NATO struggling to supply winter uniforms to Ukraine – Der Spiegel

NATO members have been scraping the barrel in their efforts to supply Ukraine with sufficient winter uniforms and field camp equipment, Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine reported on Monday. Kiev has apparently called on the bloc to urgently provide the necessary equipment before the cold weather sets in.

 

According to Der Spiegel, Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov wrote a letter to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg back in late July, calling on the military alliance to provide cold-proof field tents along with clothing for as many as 200,000 Ukrainian soldiers. The uniforms and equipment should be delivered as quickly as possible, the minister added, according to the magazine.

 

Several NATO nations have since been searching their warehouses for the needed supplies. The organization confirmed to Der Spiegel that it is in contact with member states on the issue. According to reports cited by Der Spiegel, so far the US and Canada, as well as Sweden and Finland, which are yet to join the military grouping, have together promised deliveries that could cover up to 50% of Ukraine’s demands.

 

Military officials from various NATO members argue, though, that most of their nations’ stocks are reserved for the national armies, Der Spiegel says. The defense alliance has reportedly offered to replace the uniforms and equipment member states hand over to Kiev, using the so-called NATO trust fund, amounting to $40 million.

 

Germany also reportedly plans to join the effort, although it had earlier struggled to equip its own troops with the necessary gear, Der Spiegel says. A federal judge on Monday handed Donald Trump a significant win, ordering a special master to review evidence seized by the FBI during its raid of the former president's Florida estate last month.

 

U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon said the independent master can "review the seized property, manage assertions of privilege and make recommendations thereon, and evaluate claims for return of property."

 

Trump responded to the victory on his social media platform Truth Social.

 

"Remember, it takes courage and 'guts' to fight a totally corrupt Department of 'Justice' and the FBI," Trump's post read. "They are being pushed to do the wrong things by many sinister and evil outside sources. Until impartiality, wisdom, fairness, and courage are shown by them, our Country can never come back or recover — it will be reduced to being a Third World Nation!"

 

Cannon also halted the Justice Department's review of the materials seized from Mar-a-Lago "pending completion of the special master's review or further Court order."

 

The judge’s order also revealed a significant amount of over-collection of evidence by the FBI, including the former president’s medical and tax records.

 

"According to the Privilege Review Team's Report, the seized materials include medical documents, correspondence related to taxes, and accounting information," Cannon wrote.

 

Trump asked for the special master, claiming documents seized from him were covered by attorney client privilege and executive privilege. The FBI also acknowledged it overcollected evidence, including passports, attorney-client privilege records and even clothing.

 

A special master is typically a lawyer from outside the government who makes independent judgments on whether evidence has been properly seized.

Priti Patel was expected to be on the chopping block as incoming PM Liz Truss is due to appoint a new cabinet on Tuesday

 

Priti Patel resigned as UK home secretary on Monday following the announcement that Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has been chosen to lead the Conservative Party and will become the new prime minister.

 

In her resignation letter to caretaker PM Boris Johnson, Patel said it had been “a great honour and privilege” to serve the country and defended her record as home secretary.

 

Patel failed to back Truss during the Tory leadership contest with former finance minister Rishi Sunak, but had indicated that she would like to stay in her role under the next leader. By remaining neutral, Patel was reportedly hoping that whoever came out on top would keep her in her cabinet position.

 

However, reports last week suggested Patel would be among those getting the axe if Truss became prime minister. Truss is expected to announce a major cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.

In her resignation later, she accused her political opponents of standing up “for the criminals, terrorists and people smugglers” as well as “those with no right to be in the UK.”

 

“We have never faltered and never stopped doing what is right to protect the public,” she wrote.

 

She congratulated Truss on being elected the new Conservative leader and said she would support her as prime minister, confirming, however, that she will continue to champion her causes “from the backbenches.”

World Economic Forum leader asks Canadians to stop talking about it

 

Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre says he would ban cabinet ministers from attending Davos conference if chosen prime minister.

 

The World Economic Forum is getting antsy about being such a big topic of discussion in Canada and especially the criticisms from politicians such as Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre, a potential prime minister.

 

Managing Director Adrian Monck dismissed criticisms of the organization, particularly regarding its Great Reset Initiative, as disinformation and claimed they were based on antisemitic tropes in a CBC Radio interview.

 

"Canada should be talking about a lot of things right now. It shouldn't really be talking about the World Economic Forum based here in Geneva," he said.

 

The Great Reset is simply promoting the idea that governments should spend money on "long-term things that would aid climate change combating, that would help jobs re-skilling and all the kinds of bigger, long-term challenges," Monck said.

 

In its own editorial voice, CBC Radio claimed the critical appraisal of the Great Reset is a "conspiracy theory claiming that a cabal of global elites is planning to remake society to eliminate private property and impose an authoritarian global government," citing a 2016 essay imagining a better world without privacy or private property.

The United States military said Monday it flew a pair of nuclear-capable B-52 long-distance bombers over the Middle East in a show of force, the latest such mission in the region as tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran.

The bombers took off from the Royal Air Force base at Fairford, England, and flew over the eastern Mediterranean, the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea Sunday in training missions together with Kuwaiti and Saudi warplanes, before departing the region.

“Threats to the U.S. and our partners will not go unanswered,” Lt. Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, the top U.S. Air Force officer in the Middle East said in a statement. “Missions like this … showcase our ability to combine forces to deter and, if necessary, defeat our adversaries.”

Although the U.S. military’s Central Command did not mention Iran, Washington has frequently dispatched B-52 bombers to the region as hostilities simmered between the U.S. and Iran. The last such flyover was in June.

Iran's regional foe, Israel, also joined in the multinational mission. Though unacknowledged by the U.S., three Israeli F-16 fighter jets accompanied the American bombers “through Israel’s skies on their way to the (Persian) Gulf,” the Israeli military said, describing the country's cooperation with the U.S. military as key to “maintaining aerial security in Israel and the Middle East.”

Central Command was expanded last year to include Israel, a move seen to encourage regional cooperation against Iran under former President Donald Trump.

Trump's decision four years ago to withdraw the U.S. from Tehran's landmark nuclear deal with world powers sparked a series of escalating incidents in the region.

Even as diplomats now wrangle over a possible revival of the nuclear accord, Iran’s navy seized two American sea drones in the Red Sea last week.

That capture came just days after the country's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard towed another sea drone before releasing it as an American warship trailed it. The U.S. Navy has been deploying ultra-endurance aerial surveillance drones to monitor threats in the crucial waterways, which have witnessed repeated maritime attacks.

Tensions also remain high after recent confrontations between U.S. forces and Iranian-backed militias in the region. Washington last month carried out airstrikes in eastern Syria that targeted areas used by militias backed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, prompting a response from Iranian-backed fighters.

U.S. and Iranian negotiators in Vienna have been attempting to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, which imposed sharp limits on Iran's atomic program in exchange for international sanctions relief. Last week, the State Department described Iran's latest negotiating position as “not constructive.”

Meanwhile, Iran now enriches uranium up to 60% purity — a level it never reached before that is a short, technical step away from 90%. While Iran long has maintained its program is peaceful, nonproliferation experts warn Tehran has enough 60%-enriched uranium to reprocess into fuel for at least one nuclear bomb.
