Dow officially enters bear market

The key metric fell 329.60 points on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average officially entered bear market territory on Monday, following a precipitous drop.

The key metric fell 329.60 points on Monday, marking a 1.11% decline, placing the index in bear market territory, per MarketWatch. A bear market is traditionally defined as a 20% decline from a recent high.

On Friday, the Dow Jones plunged below 30,000, effectively erasing all of the stock market's gains since President Joe Biden took office.

The S&P 500 also reached a low point for the year 2022, dropping 1.03% to 3,655.04, while the third major index, the Nasdaq Composite, dropped 0.6% to 10,802.92.

A major index officially plunging into a bear market adds pressure on the Biden administration, which has sought to redefine the formal definition of an economic recession following consecutive quarters of economic decline, the traditional benchmark.

The British pound dropped to a record low on Monday against the U.S. dollar, falling 4% at one point to an all-time low of $1.0382. The pound has since come off its worst levels on speculation that the Bank of England may have to raise rates more aggressively to tamp down inflation.

The Federal Reserve’s aggressive hiking campaign, coupled with the U.K.’s tax cuts announced last week has caused the U.S. dollar to surge. The euro hit the lowest versus the dollar since 2002. A surging greenback can hurt the profits of U.S. multinationals and also wreak havoc on global trade, with so much of it transacted in dollars.

“Such U.S. dollar strength has historically led to some kind of financial/economic crisis,” wrote Morgan Stanley’s Michael Wilson, chief U.S. equity strategist, in a note. “If there was ever a time to be on the lookout for something to break, this would be it.”

Bond yields leapt on Monday, with the 10-year Treasury yield topping 3.9% at one point during the day. That marks its highest level since 2010.

The yield also jumped on the 2-year Treasury, which is especially sensitive toward Fed policy. The rate on the note surpassed 4.3%, the highest level since 2007.

WIPING OUT WAGES: Average American Household Has Lost $7,200 in Income Under Biden

Trump-era gains —gone.

According to data compiled by the Heritage Foundation, the average American family has lost $7,200 in household income under President Biden; individual Americans are $4,200 poorer, as well.

From Fox Business:

Experts at the conservative think tank analyzed consumer prices data and the Federal Reserve’s interest rates and found in a Friday report that Americans have lost the equivalent of $4,200 of income per capita since January 20, 2021.

Consumer prices have risen 12.7% since January 2021, much faster than wages, which Heritage analysts say has cost the average American worker $3,000 in annual purchasing power.

Additionally, the tightening monetary policy by the Federal Reserve and increased borrowing costs on mortgages, vehicle loans and credit cards – caused by higher interest rates – have reduced the average American’s purchasing power by another $1,200 per year, Heritage Foundation says.

“Simply put, working Americans are $4,200 poorer today than when Biden took office,” EJ Antoni, research fellow in regional economics with The Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis, said in a press release. “This financial catastrophe for American families is the direct result of a president and Congress addicted to spending our money, combined with a Federal Reserve compliantly enabling this addiction by printing more dollars.”

Antoni also says the average household has lost roughly $7,200, a number calculated by doubling the inflation number of $3,000 and adding $1,200 in losses from interest rates.

“The $4,200 loss figure erases the average American worker’s real annual earnings increase of $4,000 that occurred during the Trump presidency, according to Heritage,” Fox Business reports.

SPR Oil Level Hits 40-Year Low as Hurricane Season Fires Up. Thanks, Brandon.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1. However, until now, we’ve had an eerily quiet stretch of virtually no major storm threats to the Gulf of Mexico or the U.S. mainland. However, that could soon change as “Invest 98L,” currently swirling in the southeastern Caribbean, is predicted to go tropical and potentially enter the Gulf next week as a major hurricane.

‘My Son Hunter’ Trailer Hits 3.5 Million Cross-Platform Views After Truth Social Debut

The full theatrical trailer for the highly anticipated feature film My Son Hunter has spread like wildfire online after its official debut on Truth Social last week, racking up more than 3.5 million cross-platform views. The trailer debut was followed by an all-star panel discussion hosted by Truth Social CEO and former California congressman Devin Nunes, who hoped his platform’s success in pushing John Rich’s hit song “Progress” to the top of the charts could be replicated with the promotion of My Son Hunter.

BREAKING: The full trailer of "My Son Hunter" was released exclusively on Truth Social tonight.

— My Son Hunter | The Hunter Biden Movie (@MySonHunter) August 26, 2022

The Nunes-hosted panel discussion on Truth Social included Donald Trump Jr.; My Son Hunter director Robert Davi (Licensed to Kill, Die Hard, The Goonies); Government Accountability Institute President, Breitbart Senior Contributor, and bestselling author of Red Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win Peter Schweizer; and Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow.

As Nunes and Donald Trump Jr. noted during the panel, one of the objectives of Truth Social is to provide a platform for artists and individuals facing woke cancellation. The overwhelming success of John Rich’s song “Progress” provided a perfect example of the Truth Social mission in action.

As Breitbart News reported:

Rich’s anti-woke anthem was shunned by record labels and destined for oblivion until Truth Social—under Nunes’ leadership—decided to promote the song.

The response was an overwhelming success that shocked the music world. Thanks to Truth Social’s promotion, Rich’s “Progress” rocketed to the #1 spot on iTunes, becoming a global #1 single for multiple days, eclipsing other artists like Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Kate Bush, and Beyonce, and then landing on Billboard’s Hot 100 list and hitting #1 on Billboard’s digital song sales list.

All of this happened despite the attempts to cancel the song. As Rich explained in an interview with Just the News, “Here I am with no record label, no publisher, no marketing deal.”

“I just got a song that speaks to a lot of people, and Truth and Rumble pushed it out there,” Rich said. “And man, I’m really proud of what we did today.”

Arlington, Virginia Next Target in Left-Wing Crusade to Abolish the Suburbs

In the final months of the 2020 campaign, former President Donald Trump repeatedly warned about Democrats’ plan to “abolish the suburbs.” While the mainstream media insisted the claim was false, time has once again proven Trump correct, as liberal enclaves one-by-one look to abolish single-family home zoning and spread those same policies elsewhere. The left’s latest target: Arlington County, Virginia, just across the river from Washington, D.C. and one of the wealthiest suburban areas in the country.

In the left’s crusade for “equity,” “environmental justice,” and “densification,” the suburbs are on the chopping block.

In 2020, the Arlington County Board of Commissioners launched what it called a “Missing Middle” study to ostensibly “explore how new housing types could help address Arlington’s shortfall in housing supply and gaps in housing choices.” Arlington consistently ranks among the most expensive housing markets in the country, and is only set to get more expensive with major companies like Amazon and Boeing moving in. Proponents of “missing middle” housing strategies argue that multi-family homes and apartments in areas previously zoned for single-family homes are the key to bringing down housing costs.

Earlier this year, the board released the results of the study, which unsurprisingly argued that re-zoning vast swaths of the county from single-family home use to multi-family home use will solve Arlington’s housing “crisis.” The board is now considering several proposals to that effect, allowing for multi-unit complexes large enough to accommodate up to eight families to be built on lots previously zoned for single-family homes. Notably, according to Virginia law, changes to zoning laws are not eligible for a ballot initiative, and so whatever decision the board comes to will be final. This means that if single-family zoning is eliminated, an owner of a single-family home in Arlington could soon find that their neighbor’s house has been sold to a developer, who will promptly tear it down and build a four-story apartment building right next door.

During the first few of twenty planned “community conversations” about the proposed changes, some Arlington residents have supported the move, while others have raised concerns that allowing multi-family units on single-family lots will drive down existing home values and make owning a home in Arlington impossible for those who don’t already. At a meeting in June on the rezoning plan, residents booed county board chair Katie Cristol (D) when she began discussing the plan.

The recent momentum to do away with single-family zoning in Arlington follows similar successful efforts in other radical left progressive localities like Portland, Oregon, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as the entire state of California. These efforts have also been explicitly encouraged by the Biden administration, which has furthered regulatory efforts that began under the Obama administration to eradicate single-family zoning in suburban areas. Biden’s budget request for FY 2023 includes a $10 billion proposal to incentivize states and localities to abolish single-family zoning, providing lucrative grants for those that do so. Although Republicans managed to remove it from the final bill, Biden’s original draft of the $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan which passed last year also included threats to cut billions of dollars in federal funding to localities which “ban apartment buildings from certain residential areas or set a minimum lot size for a single-family home.”

In Arlington and elsewhere, the left has cloaked their support for abolishing the suburbs in the language of “racial equity,” in effect claiming that any opposition to their point of view is “racist.” Shortly after the Arlington County board released its “Missing Middle” plan, the local chapter of the NAACP released a statement calling it “a first step in a series of necessary actions to reverse the damage done to Black and Brown residents by governmental and nongovernmental acts,” referring to discriminatory “redlining” practices that took place prior to passage of the Fair Housing Act of 1968. Biden’s Department of Housing and Urban Development has repeatedly stated that “zoning reform” is a critical component of bringing about “equity” in housing.

Anonymous ID: 23ad7a Sept. 26, 2022, 6:38 p.m. No.17587269   🗄️.is 🔗kun

>>17587268

Left-wing activists now refer to single-family zoning as “the new redlining.” But as conservatives have pointed out, there’s nothing inherently “racist” about single family homes. In fact, a majority of African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Asian-Americans now live in the suburbs. Eliminating single-family zoning today will only have the effect of making it harder for minority families to achieve the American Dream of owning their own home. Families of all races looking to escape the violence and crowds of cities might suddenly find that everywhere has become urbanized, as “densifying” residential areas has become the new “social justice” craze on the left.

For progressives, however, ending single-family zoning is an enticing political opportunity. The more voters Democrats can pack into densely populated areas, the more likely they are to win elections. By turning swing-vote suburbs into deep-blue miniature cities, electoral outcomes are all-but assured to move to the left.

But if county leaders in Arlington move forward with their plan to end single-family zoning, it could also backfire dramatically. Matt de Ferranti is the only board member up for re-election this November, but the other four members will also have to face voters in the years to come.

Additionally, threatening single-family zoning in Arlington could have ripple effects in Virginia’s statewide elections next year, as voters in other counties will rightly fear that their single-family neighborhoods could be the next casualty of the left’s war on the suburbs. In the final weeks of the gubernatorial race last year, one conservative group released a devastating two-minute TV attack ad against Democrat nominee Terry McAuliffe highlighting his past support for ending single-family zoning. While other issues like education undoubtedly played a role in handing the election to Republican Glenn Youngkin, many of those same voters are likely also concerned about protecting the future of single-family zoning.

Though Arlington has long been a Democratic stronghold, the votes of suburbanites who don’t want their neighborhoods transformed, fearing a reduction in the value of their homes, rising crime rates, or even the continued availability of street parking, may cut into Democratic margins, perhaps tipping the scales toward Republicans in a few key Virginia House and Senate districts centered on suburban areas.

Try as they might, the left may soon find that voters simply won’t give up a way of life that they have worked their entire lives for, no matter how much woke virtue signaling they are subjected to.

Steven Peay is the pen name of a political consultant with prior experience in the executive branch and U.S. Senate.

Liberal Media Scream: Stephanopoulos slips, says Trump would beat Biden

This week’s Liberal Media Scream shows just how reluctant the press are to tell the truth about how bad President Joe Biden’s polling is.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll was released on Sunday, and ABC’s George Stephanopoulos led This Week with some findings from it: Biden’s approval at 39%, most Democrats want a different candidate for 2024, Democrats “even” with Republicans in the midterm preference.

But it wasn’t until 44 minutes into his show that Stephanopoulos slipped that former President Donald Trump would beat Biden in a head-to-head election. It came as he picked up on panelist Chris Christie’s claim that Trump is losing support among Republicans. Stephanopoulos countered that “the polling right now is not really showing that. It’s showing, among Republican voters, he’s holding firm. Our poll shows him defeating Joe Biden in 2024.”

In fact, the poll put Trump at 48% to 46% for Biden, a finding that appeared in the 34th paragraph of a 35-paragraph story in the Washington Post.

George Stephanopoulos from Sunday’s This Week on ABC:

“Chris Christie says this is slowly moving away from Donald Trump. And I think I actually agree with him. But the polling right now is not really showing that. It’s showing, among Republican voters, he’s holding firm. Our poll shows him defeating Joe Biden in 2024.”

Brent Baker, vice president of research and publications for the Media Research Center, explains our weekly pick: “After all the legal onslaughts and renewed media hostility against Donald Trump over the past few months, the fact his own poll found Trump would still beat President Biden must really gall Stephanopoulos. That could have been the lead item to highlight from the poll, not one to bury as an aside deep in the show without even citing the specific numbers.”
