Biden 'Armageddon' fundraiser was hosted at Fox News' heir's home

President Joe Biden traveled to New York Thursday night for a Democratic Party fundraiser, which was held at the home of James Murdoch, Newsmax reports.

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch is the chairman of Fox Corp., which includes Fox News Channel, and James Murdoch is one of the heirs set to inherit his father's media fortune, including a trust that will control Fox News.

"We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis," Biden said at the fundraiser, according to Fox News.

"I don't think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon," Biden also told the fundraiser attendees. That statement created a media firestorm, fearing that Biden's comments might be raising instead of lowering tensions over a nuclear showdown with Russia.

CNN reported that according to a US official, Biden was speaking "frankly" in response to Putin's "irresponsible and reckless" comments. They added that Biden's "comments were not based on any new information about Russia's nuclear posture," nor had there been a "shift in the US nuclear posture," according to the outlet.

James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn had spent $20 million opposing former President Trump's re-election bid in 2020 and have donated $100 million through a nonprofit to support liberal political groups, according to Newsmax.

Newsmax reports that James has made it known to associates that he and his sisters will control the family trust, which includes Fox News, after his 91-year-old father passes away.

According to the Financial Times, a majority of the family trust heirs plan to turn the network away from its conservative roots.

President Biden said in an address to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on Thursday night that the country under his leadership is as close to "Armageddon" as it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s.

Speaking at a fundraiser in New York, Biden addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin threatening to use a nuclear weapon.

"[Putin was] not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons," Biden said. "We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis."

Russia has hinted several times at the possibility it could unleash weapons of mass destruction in its battle with Ukrainian forces if Putin believes the fate of the country is at risk.

"I want to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction, and for separate components and more modern than those of NATO countries, and when the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, to protect Russia and our people, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal," Putin said in an address last month.

White House officials have said the Biden administration has communicated directly with Russian officials about what kind of response using a nuclear weapon would bring. While officials have said they aren’t going to share publicly what the U.S. response would look like, they have said it would be "catastrophic."

"I don’t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon," Biden said at the Thursday evening speech.
