Biden 'Armageddon' fundraiser was hosted at Fox News' heir's home

President Joe Biden traveled to New York Thursday night for a Democratic Party fundraiser, which was held at the home of James Murdoch, Newsmax reports.

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch is the chairman of Fox Corp., which includes Fox News Channel, and James Murdoch is one of the heirs set to inherit his father's media fortune, including a trust that will control Fox News.

"We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis," Biden said at the fundraiser, according to Fox News.

"I don't think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon," Biden also told the fundraiser attendees. That statement created a media firestorm, fearing that Biden's comments might be raising instead of lowering tensions over a nuclear showdown with Russia.

CNN reported that according to a US official, Biden was speaking "frankly" in response to Putin's "irresponsible and reckless" comments. They added that Biden's "comments were not based on any new information about Russia's nuclear posture," nor had there been a "shift in the US nuclear posture," according to the outlet.

James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn had spent $20 million opposing former President Trump's re-election bid in 2020 and have donated $100 million through a nonprofit to support liberal political groups, according to Newsmax.

Newsmax reports that James has made it known to associates that he and his sisters will control the family trust, which includes Fox News, after his 91-year-old father passes away.

According to the Financial Times, a majority of the family trust heirs plan to turn the network away from its conservative roots.

Durham's high-stakes trial of infamous anti-Trump dossier sources gets underway Tuesday

John Durham's trial against Igor Danchenko, the main source for British ex-spy Christopher Steele's discredited dossier, begins with its jury selection on Tuesday.

The Virginia trial will center on false statements that the Russian lawyer allegedly made to the FBI about his sourcing for the infamous anti-Trump dossier and his interactions with longtime Hillary Clinton ally Chuck Dolan and Belarus-born U.S. businessman Sergei Millian.

Judge Anthony Trenga, overseeing the case against Danchenko, dealt a series of blows to Durham last week, including ruling he could not use as evidence details from the FBI’s prior counterintelligence investigation into the dossier source, which unearthed Danchenko’s alleged links to Russian intelligence.

The judge also denied the special counsel’s request to provide evidence showing Danchenko allegedly misled about the sourcing for the unfounded “pee tape” claims that Steele put into his anti-Trump dossier, as well as limited a host of other evidence Durham had sought to show the jury.

Danchenko was on the FBI's payroll as a confidential human source from March 2017 to October 2020 before he was charged in November 2021 with five counts of making false statements to the bureau.

He has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyers claim the FBI will praise his work for the bureau.

PayByFace Will Expand its Face Recognition Payments System to the US

According to the Chief Executive Officer of a retail biometrics company based in Bucharest, Romania, a new payment method will soon be implemented in the United States.

Romanian biometric firm PayByFace has deployed its face recognition-powered payment solutions in South Africa, India, UAE, and the US, according to the Biometric Update.

The news was first shared on LinkedIn by CEO Mihai Draghici last summer.

“PayByFace has launched 4 new markets this month: 1) S. Africa 2) India 3) UAE 4) USA Visit each website locally for details on how you can start joining our innovative payment platform!” Draghici wrote.

According to its website, PayByFace is a customer-centric, seamless and secure digital payment ecosystem for a safer, faster, and more convenient shopping experience. It makes purchases with a selfie, without needing cash, a card or a phone.

The system is currently being used in Bucharest, Romania in over 50 locations like salons and coffee shops.

The company’s CEO Mihai Draghici discussed the news with Biometric Update in an email interview.

“As a pioneer EU fintech start-up committed to enabling global movement towards a cashless and cardless society, using face as a highly secured virtual card, we have to go outside the EU to understand the global shoppers,” Draghici says.

According to the CEO, India, UAE, the U.S., and South Africa are dynamic markets, where retailers started to incorporate biometric payments into their point-of-sale (POS) processes to reduce friction in check-out transactions, eliminate fraud, and capitalize on operational efficiencies.

Russia Adds Facebook Parent Meta To 'Terrorists And Extremists' List

Russia's financial monitoring agency, Rosfinmonitoring, has added Meta Platforms to its list of "terrorists and extremists," according to Interfax news agency.

In March, the Facebook parent was found guilty of "extremist activity" - while in June a Moscow court rejected an appeal.

Meta's lawyer argued that the company was not carrying out extremist activity and was against Russophobia, Reuters reports.

Russia restricted access Facebook and Instagram, as well as Twitter, following the Kremlin's decision to send tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb 24.

Facebook was initially banned for restricting access to Russian media, while Instagram was placed on the list after saying it would allow social media users in Ukraine to post messages which urged violence against Russian President Vladimir Putin and his troops.

U.S. Big Pharma Partners With Chinese University Tied To Military and Espionage Efforts.

American pharmaceutical firms are partnering with Chinese universities – including those with ties to Beijing’s military and espionage efforts – to produce new drugs.

Bristol-Myers Squibb, one of America’s largest pharmaceutical firms, announced a partnership with the Chinese Communist Party-controlled Tsinghua University to find drugs aimed at treating novel cancers and autoimmune diseases.

The Chinese university, however, has launched cyberattacks against the U.S. government and having a “clear connection” to the Chinese government on issues of technology and national security according to the U.S. State Department.

The school is the alma mater of regime leader Xi Jinping and hosts a “Marxist” journalism school, training the next generation of Chinese state-run media propagandists with the assistance of the New York Times, CNN, and others.

Tsinghua University has also been flagged as “very high risk” for the work it carries out to advance China’s military.

Per the agreement, the Innovation Center for Immune Therapy of Tsinghua University will discover therapeutics that Bristol-Myers Squibb can choose to license. The agreement expands upon collaborative research between the two entities which began in 2013 focused on autoimmune target discovery and structural biology.

In a press release, Carl Decicco, senior vice president and Head of Discovery at Bristol-Myers Squibb, praised the institution and celebrated the forthcoming collaboration:

“Tsinghua University is a highly respected research institution with leading capabilities and scientific talent focused on accelerating basic research into potential new therapies. We look forward to bringing projects forward that will benefit from their innovative research in immunology and autoimmune disease.”

“This collaboration with Tsinghua University is another proof of our strategic alignment with China’s innovation-driven healthcare development, as well as our commitment to accelerate delivering of innovative treatment options to Chinese patients,” added Shirley Zhao, general manager and president of Bristol-Myers Squibb in mainland China and Hong Kong.

The partnership follows controversy over American researchers working with researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, manipulating bat coronavirus strains to become more lethal to humans at taxpayer expense.

President Biden said in an address to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee on Thursday night that the country under his leadership is as close to "Armageddon" as it has been since the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s.

Speaking at a fundraiser in New York, Biden addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin threatening to use a nuclear weapon.

"[Putin was] not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons," Biden said. "We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis."

Russia has hinted several times at the possibility it could unleash weapons of mass destruction in its battle with Ukrainian forces if Putin believes the fate of the country is at risk.

"I want to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction, and for separate components and more modern than those of NATO countries, and when the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, to protect Russia and our people, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal," Putin said in an address last month.

White House officials have said the Biden administration has communicated directly with Russian officials about what kind of response using a nuclear weapon would bring. While officials have said they aren’t going to share publicly what the U.S. response would look like, they have said it would be "catastrophic."

"I don’t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon," Biden said at the Thursday evening speech.

A prominent Reform rabbi in New York City is launching a program that aims to push back against anti-Zionism within the religious movement, as younger US Jews slide away from steadfast support for Israel.

Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, the senior rabbi of Manhattan’s Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, said his Amplify Israel initiative aims to “breathe new life into the principles we’ve been committed to for decades” with an array of programs aimed at bolstering support for Israel and aligning Zionism with liberal ideology. He views the struggle as existential for the Reform movement and American Jewry.

“We want to impact first and foremost on the Reform movement and through the Reform movement to the broader American Jewish community, to slow down, eventually stop and reverse the anti-Israel, anti-Zionist encroachment,” he said during a recent interview with The Times of Israel.

“A movement of Jews separated from the root of Jewish peoplehood will eventually be like leaves falling from the tree,” he said. “There won’t be enough substance for them to sustain Judaism.”

Polls have shown that younger American Jews are increasingly estranged from Israel, with many frustrated by its treatment of the Palestinians, right-wing politics and Orthodox religious establishment, among other issues. 'Russia can't win!': NATO to launch nuclear drill after Putin's 'dangerous' threats

The annual nuclear drill will prepare NATO forces as they "remains vigilant" amid the horror threats that have come from Moscow in recent weeks.

NATO is on red alert and is set to launch a nuclear deterrence drill next week as fears that the Ukraine war will escalate into a nuclear conflict continue to soar. Russian President Vladimir Putin has made repeated threats that he is willing to draw from his nuclear arsenal, a 6,000-strong stockpile of warheads, ever since Russia first invaded its neighbouring country back in mid-February. But tensions have heated up in recent weeks, with the Russian President warning that he is "not bluffing" about being ready to "use of all weapon systems available to us" in the "event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country".

NATO appears to be taking the threat seriously and will next week hold its annual nuclear deterrence exercise to ensure that relevant personnel and equipment are prepared. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday: "This is routine training which happens every year to keep our deterrence safe, secure and effective.

"President Putin’s veiled nuclear threats are dangerous and irresponsible, Russia knows that a nuclear war can never be won and can never be fought."

Known as "Steadfast Noon", the exercise will involve 14 members of the military alliance, with nuclear-capable aircraft as well as additional capabilities like intelligence and refuelling planes.

EXPOSED: Before Ukraine blew up Kerch Bridge, British spies plotted it

The Grayzone has obtained an April 2022 presentation drawn up for senior British intelligence officers hashing out an elaborate scheme to blow up Crimea’s Kerch Bridge with the involvement of specially trained Ukrainian soldiers. Almost six months after the plan was circulated, Kerch Bridge was attacked in an October 8th suicide bombing apparently overseen by Ukraine’s SBU intelligence services.

Detailed proposals for providing “audacious” support to Kiev’s “maritime raiding operations” were drafted at the request of Chris Donnelly, a senior British Army intelligence operative and veteran high ranking NATO advisor. The wide-ranging plan’s core component was “destruction of the bridge over the Kerch Strait.”

Documents and correspondence plotting the operation were provided to The Grayzone by an anonymous source.

The truck bombing of the Kerch Bridge differed operationally from the plot sketched therein. Yet, Britain’s evident interest in planning such an attack underscores the deep involvement of NATO powers in the Ukraine proxy war. At almost precisely the time that London reportedly sabotaged peace talks between Kiev and Moscow in April this year, British military intelligence operatives were drawing up blueprints to destroy a major Russian bridge crossed by thousands of civilians per day.

The roadmap was produced by Hugh Ward, a British military veteran. A number of strategies for helping Ukraine “pose a threat to Russian naval forces” in the Black Sea are outlined. The man who founded website 8Chan and dreamed of making it a "free speech utopia" is now living in fear for his life after QAnon believers hijacked his creation and turned it against him.

Vice News reports that 8Chan founder Fred Brennan is now in hiding after current owner Jim Watkins, the father of QAnon influencer and failed congressional candidate Ron Watkins, put a bounty on his head after Brennan leveled criticisms at the website he created.

“I do know where he lives and I do know the folks that will do the rendition back to the Philippines,” Watkins said recently, and he has officially offered $17,000 for anyone who will kidnap Brennan and send him to the Philippines, where he lived for six years until 2020.

Brennan, who has been confined to a wheelchair most of his life after being born with brittle bone disease, tells Vice News that Watkins' threats against him have only intensified in recent months.

"Every month it gets worse and every month he does more," said Brennan, who added that law enforcement officials so far have done nothing to get Watkins to stop making what he views as very credible threats.

Brennan also admits to Vice News that he regrets having ever created 8Chan, while acknowledging that his vision of creating a platform of near total free speech with no moderation has gone horribly awry.

The Founder of 8chan Is Facing Death Threats for Going After QAnon

After spending the last few years calling for the deplatforming of 8chan, site creator Fred Brennan now fears for his life.

He used to think that free speech was more important than anything else. But after posts from violent white supremacists and multiple mass shooters, followed by the rise of QAnon, Fred Brennan had a lot of regrets. Then the death threats began.

Brennan, the founder of 8chan, spent his teenage years almost entirely online. Born with brittle bone disease, he has used a wheelchair for most of his life and has used online forums to connect with the world. In 2013, when he created the anonymous message board, he had hoped his site would become a free-speech utopia—unlike what he viewed as the over-aggressive moderation on the more popular 4chan message board. Sometimes the site promoted free speech, but other times it allowed for the targeted doxing and harassment of individuals, most notably during the Gamergate movement.

And now, almost a decade later, Brennan’s creation is being used against him by its current owner, Jim Watkins, a U.S. Army veteran who, along with his son Ron Watkins, has helped the QAnon conspiracy movement to flourish and destroy families across America.

Watkins is posting ads on the forum promising users a $17,000 bounty to anyone who helps send Brennan back to the Philippines, where Brennan lived from 2014 to 2020.

“I do know where he lives, and I do know the folks that will do the rendition back to the Philippines,” Watkins said during an appearance on an online conspiracy show last June. These threats aren’t totally empty—8chan is where at least three mass shooters have posted their screeds in recent years. And ever since Brennan has publicly attacked the site for facilitating the rise of QAnon, Watkins has seen him as an enemy.

Since June, Watkins has been ramping up his threats against Brennan, beginning with throwaway comments on an obscure livestream then setting up an escrow account to allow others to contribute to the literal bounty he’s placed on Brennan’s head.

Watkins’ threats have continued, and increased in frequency in recent months, but Brennan claims law enforcement has done nothing. “I don't get ignored,” Brennan told VICE News. “They always reply; they just don't do anything, which is just as bad.” Now, Brennan is terrified.

“Every month it gets worse and every month he does more,” Brennan said.

Free speech

8chan first gained popularity in 2014 when followers of Gamergate, a collection of anti-feminist video gamers, moved en masse to 8chan after they were banned from 4chan. It was on 8chan where Brianna Wu, the American video game developer at the center of Gamergate, was doxed and subsequently faced vicious harassment.

At the time, Brennan was willing to look the other way when it came to actions like this on his site. “I'll be perfectly honest,” he told Jacobin magazine last year. “I had very good reasons to look the other way—look how popular my site is now.”

Struggling to keep up with server costs in the wake of his site’s popularity, Brennan sold 8chan to Watkins. In late 2014 Brennan moved to Manila to work for Watkins on the site; he was an employee for the next two years and left in April 2016.

Brennan has also had a change of heart: He recognizes that the harassment during Gamergate was “very bad,” and told VICE News that he regrets ever having created 8chan.

During Brennan’s time at 8chan there were problems, but in the years since Brennan departed, those problems have become much worse. In recent years the site has become notorious as the home of mass shooters, far-right white supremacists, and, most recently, QAnon.

For the last couple of years, Brennan has been one of the leading voices calling for the site he created to be deplatformed.

Brennan had some success in 2019 after three mass shooters posted violent screeds on the site within the space of six months. The site went dark for three months but reemerged later that year under the new name of 8kun. For the next couple of years, Brennan continued to work to bring down 8kun, but for the most part the site remained online, and Watkins paid little attention to his former employee.

That all changed in June of this year, however, when it appeared that Q, the anonymous poster behind the QAnon phenomenon, had returned after 18 months of silence. However, within hours of the messages appearing on the /qresearch/ board on 8kun, Brennan and other online sleuths were able to prove conclusively that Watkins was behind the posts.

“What I did with the Q post tipped him over the edge, but he really has a lot of reasons to not like me,” Brennan said. “Because that really dashed his hopes and dreams and significantly degraded his assets, because that's what Q is, it's an asset.”

Threats

Brennan fled the Philippines hours before the authorities there issued a warrant for his arrest over tweets in which he described Watkins as “senile,” which breached the Philippines’ ultra-strict cyber-libel laws. Given his medical condition, he told VICE News, arrest and detention at the notorious Bicutan Detention Center would have been an effective death sentence.

Two years later, Watkins is suggesting that someone should capture Brennan and bring him back to the Philippines.

“I found out that the Philippines’ government allows renditions back to the Philippines,” Watkins said during the June 30 livestream. “Now it costs $15,000, but I’m thinking a $15,000 rendition could be worth it. I could sell a car.”

Watkins then explained that the rendition would be done by boat, adding, “I could see a wheelchair rolling back and forth in a cage. Have a feeding tube inserted like a French goose, it’ll be fun.” During the livestream, Watkins laughed and clapped his hands. “I have no sympathy anymore,” he said.

From there, the threats continued. On Aug. 10, Watkins threatened to kidnap Brennan again on the same show. He claimed he was "filling out paperwork" in the Philippines to legalize “hiring a bounty hunter" in the U.S., where Brennan currently resides. In September, Watkins posted ads on his own platform seeking information leading to the arrest of Brennan, placing a $17,000 bounty on Brennan’s head.

On a Sept. 22 livestream, Watkins claimed that “putting [Brennan] in a cage on a cargo ship” would be more humane than putting him on a plane in handcuffs. On the same livestream, Watkins also claimed the bounty he put up was in an escrow account but that if “other people who had been wronged by this man, and there have been plenty, they can consider donating to the escrow account.” Watkins and his fellow guests even joked about the possibility of Dog the Bounty Hunter taking the job.

Watkins continued to re-post the ads on his Telegram channel, which has 18,000 followers, claiming that Brennan’s actions were not only about targeting only him but also “about the destruction of 8kun.”

In response, some of Watkins’ followers posted threats against Brennan. “That little turd needs to hang upside down,” one wrote, while another added: “Someone must have blackmail info on that prick.”

However, Watkins denied making any threats against Brennan. “You can rest assured that I have not threatened anyone's life,” Watkins told VICE News in an online message. “There is currently a reward for the arrest and conviction of the fugitive Fredrick Robert Brennan. This is proper and in accordance with the law.” Watkins refused to answer any follow-up questions.

Brennan claimed he’s been in contact with the FBI in relation to Watkins in the past in the wake of the Capitol riot, but he says none of the agents he has spoken to since Watkins made the threats have taken the issue seriously. Instead, Brennan thinks he’s “just an acceptable sacrifice” to the agents who don’t want to jeopardize an ongoing investigation into Watkins and 8kun. The FBI did not respond to requests for comment from VICE News.

Brennan knows that Watkins knows where he lives, but believes that staying in Atlantic City is the safest thing for him right now. He said he also spoke to the local police department in Atlantic City about his situation. The department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from VICE News.

“If I were to relocate, I would be alone, and that's way more dangerous than my current situation because there's safety in numbers,” Brennan said.

Brennan believes his ordeal will only come to an end when Watkins is held to account for these threats and forced to remove the ads on 8kun. But he’s not holding out much hope.

“What [Watkins] wants to happen is for one of the people that read 8chan or believe in QAnon to just come here to Atlantic City.” Brennan said. “He's telling his followers that to do the actual kidnapping is legal.”
