It's no secret there's a priest shortage in the Catholic Church.

Here to tell us more about one country having a tough time keeping good clerics is Church Militant's Nick Wylie.

It's not easy being a good priest in today's Church.

In tonight's In-Depth Report, we discuss the dangers of being ordained on the other side of America's southern border.

Al Jazeera: "Violence in Mexico is at its highest point in decades. Statistics suggest nearly 100 people are murdered in the country every day. The Catholic Church says Mexico is going through a historic wave of violence."

At least 70 priests have been murdered in Mexico since 1990, making it one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a Catholic priest, according to news websites The Guardian and Publimetro.

Some drug cartels even promote members for murdering a cleric.

According to Centro Católico Multimedial:

They desecrate the temples and the sacred Hosts. They have violated bishops, cardinals, clerics and even altar boys. No one is safe from violence. If they were stabbed five times before, now they do it 20 times and with narco-satanic messages. In some cases they have even thrown the bodies of priests at the footstep of the Devil.

Hundreds of priests have reported receiving death threats, and some have gone into hiding to escape torture or murder from gangs.

According to an article in Publimetro:

The assassins of various drug cartels mutilate, cut throats, torture and cut off entire parts, such as the fingers, of the priests — of the hand they use to draw a cross and offer blessings to their parishioners. This is a message against those who maintain strong activism in their communities.

On average, 26 churches are reportedly attacked each week across Mexico's nearly 100 dioceses.

Arturo Carrasco revealed, "The fear and respect for the priests of Mexico was lost — one of the last links in society that organized crime did not dare to touch for different reasons, such as fear of God."

Once known for being a Catholic stronghold with great Marian devotion, Mexico has seen a steady decline in the Faith in recent times.

There has also reportedly been a rise in satanism among criminals.

Fr. Javier Davila, Jesuit priest: "We continue to demand justice — that the federal public security policy be changed — because this is not working, no matter how much the authorities say that it is working. Nothing is going to change."

In 2020, Mexican cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez published a video message to Mexicans warning about the current leftist government's push for communism in the country.

He declared, "What is the finality? Dominate, so that a new world order is established — so that, once the peoples are weakened and impoverished, the individual personality of the citizens has ended, they can be easily managed."

Mexico has seen an almost 50% drop in its number of Catholic priests since 1970, and the violence threatened against God's ministers is only making the vocations crisis even worse.

The percentage of Catholics in Mexico attending Mass at least once a month dropped from 71% in 1970 to 36% in 2021.

Central Kiev hit by missile strikes – officials

One of the missiles reportedly landed on the street where the country’s main spy agency is located

Russian missiles struck multiple targets in central Kiev on Monday morning, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel. He urged residents to seek shelter and avoid traveling to the capital.

Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the interior minister, said that a missile struck Vladimirskaya Street, where the main office of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is based.

Gerashchenko shared videos on Telegram showing clouds of smoke rising above the skyline, and said that several civilian vehicles were destroyed.

The adviser added that subway service has been partially suspended in Kiev, and all underground stations are now serving as shelters.

Gerashchenko later said that five civilians were killed and 12 injured in the capital.

Strikes were also reported in the eastern city of Dnepr, and explosions in Lviv, western Ukraine.

In a post on his Telegram channel, President Vladimir Zelensky confirmed that there had been missile strikes across Ukraine. “Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded,” he wrote.

The reported strikes come after Moscow accused Ukraine’s security services of orchestrating the truck bombing that damaged the Crimean Bridge, which connects the peninsula with mainland Russia, on Saturday. At least three people were killed in the attack, the authorities said.

Ukraine has neither confirmed nor denied involvement. However, several high-ranking officials and government agencies openly celebrated the bombing.

Mass protests against NATO and EU hit Paris streets (VIDEOS)

The demonstrations were sparked by what protesters called economic “disruption” and “energy and health restrictions”

A massive crowd of protesters marched through the center of the Paris on Saturday demanding that France radically change its stance on NATO and the EU.

The march was organized by the right-wing Les Patriotes (The Patriots) party led by Florian Philippot, the former deputy head of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally. Dubbed “the national meeting of resistance,” the rally attracted “thousands and thousands” of people, according to Philippot, who was also a member of the European Parliament between 2014 and 2019.

The demonstrators were holding a large banner reading ‘Resistance’ and smaller placards that read ‘Frexit’ – a reference to a demand that France leave the EU. Many protesters were also waving the national flag.

Two explosions struck Kyiv, Ukraine, early Monday after months of relative calm in the capital of the eastern European nation.

Missile strikes appeared to cause the explosions in Kyiv. Explosions were also heard in other cities, including Liviv and Dnipro. In Lviv, energy infrastructure was hit, Regional Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitchko said explosions occurred in the city’s Shevchenko district, which is a large area in the center of the city that includes the historic old town and several government offices.

The spokesperson for Emergency Service in Kyiv said people were killed and wounded, and that rescuers are currently working in different areas.

It is unclear how many casualties resulted from the explosions.

Lesia Vasylenko, a member of Ukraine's parliament, shared a photo on Twitter revealing that at least one explosion happened near the main building of the Kyiv National University in central Kyiv.

The last attack on Kyiv was in June, when missiles hit an apartment building, killing one person and wounding six others.

Recent fighting amid the country's war with Russia has centered on the regions just north of Crimea, which includes Zaporizhzhia, where six missiles were launched overnight Saturday from Russian-occupied areas of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Sunday that the attack damaging the large bridge linking Russia to its annexed territory of Crimea was "a terrorist act" from Ukrainian special services.

Biden 'Armageddon' fundraiser was hosted at Fox News' heir's home

President Joe Biden traveled to New York Thursday night for a Democratic Party fundraiser, which was held at the home of James Murdoch, Newsmax reports.

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch is the chairman of Fox Corp., which includes Fox News Channel, and James Murdoch is one of the heirs set to inherit his father's media fortune, including a trust that will control Fox News.

"We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis," Biden said at the fundraiser, according to Fox News.

"I don't think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon," Biden also told the fundraiser attendees. That statement created a media firestorm, fearing that Biden's comments might be raising instead of lowering tensions over a nuclear showdown with Russia.

CNN reported that according to a US official, Biden was speaking "frankly" in response to Putin's "irresponsible and reckless" comments. They added that Biden's "comments were not based on any new information about Russia's nuclear posture," nor had there been a "shift in the US nuclear posture," according to the outlet.

James Murdoch and his wife Kathryn had spent $20 million opposing former President Trump's re-election bid in 2020 and have donated $100 million through a nonprofit to support liberal political groups, according to Newsmax.

Newsmax reports that James has made it known to associates that he and his sisters will control the family trust, which includes Fox News, after his 91-year-old father passes away.

According to the Financial Times, a majority of the family trust heirs plan to turn the network away from its conservative roots.
