NASA chief says China wants to claim moon for itself
In an interview for the German news source Bild, NASA chief Bill Nelson said he is concerned about China's lunar missions because he believes Beijing intends to claim the moon for itself.
Nelson believes everyone should be concerned about Chinese space development because one day Beijing will reportedly land on the moon and declare, "it's ours now and you stay away."
The former US congressman and NASA administrator went on to say that Chinese lunar missions will be "military" and that Beijing will use its moon base to examine the feasibility of taking down other countries' satellites.
While Nelson commended China's overall accomplishments in space exploration after launching numerous gadgets to the moon, he quickly moved to belittle the achievements by suggesting they were based on technology Beijing allegedly "stole" from other countries.
The NASA administrator did not clarify which countries he was thinking of, nor did he provide any proof to back up any of his allegations.
China has announced that it intends to not only send people to the moon by 2025 but also to establish a presence there by 2035, in collaboration with Russia. The US has similar ambitions, which involve the creation of a lunar outpost, as well as a space station circling Earth's satellite. The latter might be used to refuel and launch spacecraft to Mars, another target for NASA.
Notably, neither the US nor China has mentioned employing a lunar outpost for military objectives, despite the fact that several US military projects suggest that attempts to militarize space exist in clear violation of international accords.

Wickr Me, an encrypted messaging app owned by Amazon Web Services, has become a go-to destination for people to exchange images of child sexual abuse, according to court documents, online communities, law enforcement and anti-exploitation activists.
Itโs not the only tech platform that needs to crack down on such illegal content, according to data gathered by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, or NCMEC. But Amazon is doing comparatively little to proactively address the problem,experts and law enforcement officials say, attracting people who want to trade such material because there is less risk of detection than in the brighter corners of the internet.
NBC News reviewed court documents from 72 state and federal child sexual abuse or child pornography prosecutions where the defendant allegedly used Wickr (as itโs commonly known) from the last five years in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, using a combination of private and public legal and news databases and search engines. Nearly every prosecution reviewed has resulted in a conviction aside from those still being adjudicated. Almost none of the criminal complaints reviewed note cooperation from Wickr itself at the time of filing, aside from limited instances where Wickr was legally compelled to provide information via a search warrant. Over 25 percent of the prosecutions stemmed from undercover operations conducted by law enforcement on Wickr and other tech platforms.
These court cases only represent a small fraction of the problem, according to two law enforcement officers involved in investigating child exploitation cases, two experts studying child exploitation and two people who have seen firsthand how individuals frequently use Wickr and other platforms for criminal transactions on the dark web. They point to direct knowledge of child exploitation investigations and sting operations, interviews with victims and perpetrators of abuse, and interactions with individuals soliciting child sexual abuse material as evidence that Wickr is being used by many people who exploit childrenโฆ
Wickrโs origins
Wickr was founded in 2012 by a security-minded group of entrepreneurs includingNico Sell,an organizer of the hacker convention Defcon. The app applied encryption typically used by defense officials to personal messaging, stripping messages of any identifiable metadata, and giving users the option to sign up anonymously and have their messages self-delete.
By 2015, the company had raised $39 million in funding, seizing on a public just beginning to gain interest in data privacy. Sell, who did not respond to a request for comment, sold the company as staunchly pro-privacy, claiming early on that she had refused to give the FBI a backdoor into the platform. That same year, news reports started to trickle in about how the app was being used to commit crimes.
The first report from Australiaโs Herald Sun said thatCraiglist drug dealerswere instructing interested parties to contact them on Wickr. Numerous outlets also reported in 2015 that theIslamic State terrorist group was using Wickr to recruit fighters.

Anticipating a reversal, lawmakers in 13 Republican-controlled states have already passed legislation that would prohibit abortion if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

Conservative states refer to the notion of "undue burden" to impose abortion restrictions, forcing numerous clinics to close their doors.
West Virginia and Mississippi, for example, each have one abortion clinic, whereas California has more than 150.
Some states require adolescents to obtain parental consent before having an abortion or listening to the embryo's heartbeat.
Following a lengthy court battle, Texas has prohibited abortions after six weeks, when many women are unaware they are pregnant. Another consideration is money.
Almost a dozen states prohibit private medical insurance plans from covering abortions. However, 15 additional states use public funding to assist low-income women in paying for the surgery.
Poverty and minorities
According to the Guttmacher Institute's most current statistics, there were more than 930,000 abortions in the United States in 2020, following a 30-year drop.
This equates to 14.4 abortions for every 1,000 women of reproductive age, which is comparable to most developed countries.
Nearly half of the women seeking abortions are poor, and Black and Hispanic women are overrepresented as a percentage of the population โ 29 percent and 25 percent, respectively.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 92.2% of abortions in the United States occur during the first trimester.
Divided opinion
According to a Pew Research Center poll, more than 60% of Americans believe abortion should be allowed in all or most situations, a figure that has remained largely consistent in recent years.
However, there are significant variances based on political affiliation: 80% of Democrats say abortion should be permitted in all or most situations, while only 35% of Republicans agree.
Moreover, the chasm is growing wider. In 2016, these ratios were 72% and 39%, respectively. Religious belief is also important. In most circumstances, 77% of white evangelicals say abortion should be prohibited.
A conservative offensive
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Republican Donald Trump drew many religious right voters with his vow to name Supreme Court justices who shared their views and were willing to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Trump nominated three justices to the Supreme Court during his four years in office, giving conservatives a 6-3 majority.
Their arrival prompted Republican state legislators to establish increasingly abortion restrictions, several of which eventually found their way to the Supreme Court.

But one issue in Bruen is whether that second step is permissยญible or whether all Second Amendยญment quesยญtions may be answered only by referยญence to what is permitยญted by โtext, history, and tradiยญtion.โ

Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban considered on Friday that an embargo on Russian gas imports to the EU will have a devastating effect on the European economy.
Responding to a question about the EUโs ongoing debate on the possibility of banning gas supplies from Russia, Orban told the Kossuth radio station that his government was firmly against this step.
"Not that Hungary has no alternative. This may ruin the whole of Europe," Orban indicated, expressing his certainty that "common sense will prevail" when discussing this topic within the EU.

The Hungarian Prime Minister indicated that the war in Ukraine and the anti-Russian sanctions had already caused "wartime inflation, which is different from inflation in a normal situation" throughout Europe.
"As long as there is a war on, there will be inflation. Peace is the only way to stop wartime inflation," he affirmed.
Orban highlighted that his government is now forced to take additional measures "to protect Hungarian families and curb utility bills."

It is noteworthy that Orban had said that Europe is "dancing" on the brink of a global economic crisis because of sanctions against Russia.
The Hungarian PM praised the European Union's plan to exclude Russia's pipeline oil supply from the sixth round of sanctions.
According to Orban, "The pipeline solution is not bad. Itโs a good approach, but we need a guarantee that in the event of an accident with a pipeline going through Ukraine, we will have to have the right to get Russian oil from other sources. If we get it, itโs fine."

Arizona Republican Rep. Jake Hoffman is urging the public to pressure lawmakers to advance HB 2495, a bill aimed at barring public schools from indoctrinating and grooming students with โsexually explicit materialsโ at taxpayer expense.
Hoffman crafted the measure after discovering books and other materials at school laden with sexual activity. Arizona congressman even uncovered drawings of children having sex or masturbating.
HB 2495 would ban schools from disseminating any materials that depict โsexual conductโ including โacts of masturbation, homosexuality (and) sexual intercourse.โ
While the measure exempts โclassical literatureโ and โearly American literature,โ it requires parents to provide approval allowing their children to read the materials that contain sexually explicit content.
Hoffman issued a statement calling on Americans to โHELP STOP SEXUAL GROOMING IN ARIZONA SCHOOLSโ by sending an email โto every member of the Arizona Senate in less than 60 secondsโ via the website Align Act.
โHofstra University researcher Charol Shakeshaft studied the prevalence of sexual abuse in the public school system. Here is what she found: โThe physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests,โโ the Arizona congressman warned. โWE CANNOT ALLOW THE SEXUALIZATION AND SEXUAL GROOMING OF ARIZONA CHILDREN.โ
The legislation is currently awaiting a vote by Arizona Senate. It would then head to Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey for his signature.
Democrats and LBGTQ activists are lobbying to scrap HB 2495 arguing that the bill prohibits teachers from promoting homosexuality as a positive lifestyle.
โWhat this bill does is once again try and erase the LGBTQ community from Arizona public schools under the guise of protecting children,โ Rep. Daniel Herandez, D-Tucson warned in a scathing rebuke of the measure on Tuesday. โChildren keep getting used as footballs for politics.
โThis is not an issue of homosexuality,โ Hoffman shot back. โThis is an issue of should sexually explicit materials which have been well documented in terms of medical science has an adverse effect on children, and whether or not it should be shown in K-12 classrooms.โ

As it turns out, the Clintons were not the only ones who turn up having a very strange "involvement" with the Laura Sisby/Jorge Puello trafficking case in Haiti. Longtime cable news star Greta Van Susteren actually did a Fox News TV interview with none other than Laura Silsby's personal attorney Jorge Puello himself, right during the middle of this whole controversy!
On February 2nd, 2010, Fox New's Greta Van Susteren did a "soft-ball" type interview with Jorge Puello about the Silsby case. (Link to rush transcript of interview, and link to video of interview) Bizarrely, the interview occurred only a little over a month before Puello himself was arrested in the Dominican Republic on child sex trafficking charges on March 19th, 2010. In the very brief and strange interview, Van Susteren just asked very basic questions to Puello about how Silsby found the children, and what she intended to do with them after leaving Haiti. Jorge Puello said the children came from an orphanage that collapsed in the earthquake, and Silsby was trying to take the children "to a temporary facility so they could be taken care of," providing no further details, and Van Susteren asked no follow-up. Van Susteren did not address any of the reports that at least some of the children actually were not orphans, and had families in Haiti. Jorge's final statement in the interview was "There was no intention to do anything illegal." Van Susteren than replied "Jorge, thank you, and keep us informed.", and the interview abruptly ended.
Van Susteren and the โFranklinโ Child Sex Trafficking Scandal of the 80s
Only 9 days after Van Susteran's interview with Puello, on February 11th, 2010, the New York Times reported that police in El Salvador were investigating Jorge Puello for leading a sex trafficking ring. The fact that Van Susteren did this weird little interview with Puello only days before news of his sex trafficking allegations got dropped in mainstream news, was a big red flag to me. Journalist and independent investigator Nick Bryant wrote a really important book based on his investigation of the "Franklin Cover-up" pedophile scandal in the '80s called the "Franklin Scandal: A Story of Powerbrokers, Child Abuse & Betrayal." (Here is a link to an article about the book on the Counterpunch site). Biden asks congress to suspend federal gas tax for 3 months
US President Joe Biden will ask Congress to suspend the federal gas tax of 18.3 cents per gallon for three months, as the US struggles to combat high inflation.
The White House has hinted that the announcement will come just days before millions of Americans fill up their tanks in preparation for July 4 weekend travel.
"Today, he [Biden] is calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months, through September, without taking any money away from the Highway Trust Fund. And he is calling on states to take similar action to provide some direct relief, whether suspending their own gas taxes or helping consumers in other ways," a White House statement read.
"President Biden understands that high gas prices pose a significant challenge for working families. Thatโs why he has taken action in recent months to boost the supply of oil and gas, including a historic release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and encouraging oil companies and refiners to boost capacity and output to get more supply on the market," it added.
Later in the day, the US President is scheduled to deliver a speech on the subject.
A divided US congress
Some Democrats and Republicans have already questioned the wisdom and effectiveness of suspending the federal gas tax for months, stressing that it will provide little assistance to Americans in need.
Republicans, in particular, have characterized a potential gas tax suspension as a political stunt by a president whose popularity has plummeted as the cost of a variety of goods has risen.
It is worth noting that the Biden administration has constantly claimed that higher fuel prices are the result of the war in Ukraine and alleged price gouging by energy companies.
On his account, Biden has blamed companies for not refining enough oil for affecting supply.
71% of Americans disagree with Biden's handling of inflation, according to an ABC News poll conducted this month.
Furthermore, the poll indicated that inflation and the economy are the two concerns that respondents consider "very significant", with inflation being the "single most important issue" for more people than any other.
Meanwhile, Russia has denied the allegations, affirming that sanctions imposed by the US and its allies, as well as Ukraine's mining of the Black Sea, have thrown the market off balance and contributed to higher energy, food, and fertilizer prices.

Conservatives are criticizing Fox News for airing a segment in honor of Pride month about a biological girl who started identifying as a boy at 5-years-old.

Unidentified agents have been spying on Israeli military personnel using the fitness monitoring software Strava, following their movements throughout secret facilities across the country and perhaps seeing them while they travel on official trips.

After uploading a segment through the Strava app, users may define it, but they can also submit GPS records from other products or services.
An anonymous user with the location "Boston, Massachusetts" has put up a series of phony segments spanning a variety of Israeli military institutions, including outposts of intelligence organizations and highly protected locations assumed to be linked with the Israeli nuclear program.
Executive director of Fakereporter, Achiya Schatz, expressed fear over the revelation. Schatz claims that by being able to upload engineered files, "revealing the details of users anywhere in the world, hostile elements have taken one alarming step closer to exploiting a popular app in order to harm the security of citizens and countries alike."

The FBI has seized the data of Gen. John R. Allen, a retired general and President of the Brookings Institute, who is accused of making false statements and withholding incriminating evidence with regard to his role in an illegal Qatari lobbying scheme.
"New federal court filings obtained Tuesday outlined a potential criminal case against former Marine Gen. John R. Allen, who led U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan before being tapped in 2017 to lead the influential Brookings Institution," the Associated Press reports.
The investigation is wide-ranging and has already resulted in sentences against former ambassador to the UAE, Richard G. Olson and well-known donor Imaad Zuberi, who is serving 12 years on corruption charges.
The FBI alleges that Allen provided a "false version of events" about his work for Qatar. Allen is also accused of failing to produce communications in response to a grand jury subpoena.
The Brookings Institute did not respond to requests for comment from the Associated Press. Recently, the institute claimed to have stopped receiving Qatari funds.
It is alleged that Allen lobbied Trump NSA H.R. McMaster to take on a friendlier stance to Qatar.
AP further reports:
"In a June 9 email to [then McMaster, Allen said the Qataris were 'asking for some help' and wanted the White House or State Department to issue a statement with specific language calling on all sides of the Gulf diplomatic crisis to 'act with restraint.'
"Federal law enforcement officials say then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson did what Allen told McMaster the Qataris wanted done two days later, issuing a statement that 'shifted away from earlier statements by the White House.' Tillersonโs statement called on other Gulf countries to 'ease the blockade against Qatar' and asked 'that there be no further escalation by the parties in the region.'"
