Pelosi: My Retirement Decision Impacted by the Attack on My Husband

Cooper asked, “There’s obviously been a lot of discussion about whether you would retire if Democrats lose the house. I know you’re not going to answer that question, so I’m not even going to answer that question.”

Pelosi said, “Good, I’m glad.”

Cooper continued, “But I will ask, can you confirm that you’ve made a decision about what you would do?”

Pelosi said, “Well, that’s like asking the question, isn’t it?”

Cooper said, “I’m not asking what the decision is. I’m just asking, have you looked ahead? Have you made the decision in your mind, whatever that decision might be?

Pelosi said, “Well, I have to say my decision would be affected about what happened the last week or two.”

Cooper said, “Will your decision be impacted by the attack in any way?

Pelosi confirmed, “Yes.”

Cooper asked, “It will?”

Pelosi said, “Uh-huh, yes.”

China Is Attempting To Influence US Kids By Offering An ‘Opium Version’ Of TikTok, Expert Says

The Chinese government offers its children a more limited, beneficial version of the popular app TikTok than the “opium version” offered to kids in the United States, an expert said in a recent report.

Tristan Harris, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology, told “60 Minutes” Saturday that, according to TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, the version of TikTok given to Chinese consumers provides children with a vastly different experience. The Chinese equivalent of TikTok, Douyin, gives kids under 14 years old a 40-minute daily limit and serves them patriotic and educational content.

“They don’t ship that version of TikTok to the rest of the world,” Harris said. “It’s almost like they recognize that technology’s influencing kids’ development, and they make their domestic version a spinach version of TikTok, while they ship the opium version to the U.S. and the rest of the world.”

Meanwhile, Harris said, children in the U.S. and other parts of the western world use the app for “hours at a time.” To illustrate how TikTok is affecting American children, Harris noted that the number-one dream job for U.S. preteens is social media influencer, while in China, kids in the same age group dream of becoming astronauts.

“You allow those two societies to play out for a few generations, I can tell you what your world is going to look like,” he continued.

TikTok provides tools for parents to limit their children’s screen time and what they are able to access on the app, but it’s up to parents to use those tools.

New national security concerns have led the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr to urge the CEOs of Apple and Alphabet to ban TikTok due to the platform’s extensive mining of user data. Former President Donald Trump issued an executive order in 2020 demanding that ByteDance sever its ownership of TikTok and threatening to ban its use in the United States. A federal judge later blocked the order.

“Like many global companies, TikTok has engineering teams around the world. We employ access controls like encryption and security monitoring to secure user data, and the access approval process is overseen by our US-based security team. TikTok has consistently maintained that our engineers in locations outside of the U.S., including China, can be granted access to U.S. user data on an as-needed basis under those strict controls.” TikTok said in a June statement.

PANIC

CNN’s Wallace: Trump Could Cause a Blue Wave by Announcing Presidential Run

CNN anchor Chris Wallace said Monday on “Situation Room” that if former President Donald Trump announced tonight that he is running again in 2024 that could cause Democratic wave in Tuesday’s midterms.

The network reported Trump is privately considering announcing a 2024 presidential run at a Monday night rally in Ohio.

Anchor Wolf Blitzer said, “What’s your sense, if Trump goes ahead, maybe as early as tonight, announces he’s definitely [running]? He’s hinting broadly he’s going to run for the presidency again. But if he does that before tomorrow’s election, what’s going to be the impact?”

Wallace said, “Well, I don’t think Republicans want, they look at tomorrow, and they think things look very good, very good in the House, fairly good in terms of being able to take the Senate. It seems to me what’s most likely if Trump announces tonight, and it’s so amazing we’re even discussing this possibility, it could energize Democrats, and suddenly the Republican plans for a sweeping victory tomorrow night could be upset by a Democratic wave on election day. We know they have voted in heavy numbers in absentee ballots, early voting, but if they turn out on election day, that could upset some Republican plans.”

Attorney General Bonta, Law Enforcement Partners Announce 19 Arrests in Major Sexual Predator Sting Operation

FRESNO – California Attorney General Rob Bonta today announced the arrest of 19 individuals for allegedly attempting to contact a minor for sex and other related crimes. The arrests are the result of a joint undercover operation conducted by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Fresno Police Department, Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, Homeland Security Investigations, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and California Department of Justice.

“Let me be absolutely clear: Using the internet to target children for sex is a reprehensible and despicable crime,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta. “If you go after our children, we will hold you accountable. I’m deeply grateful to our partners in Fresno and in the federal government for their efforts to help keep our kids safe. At the California Department of Justice, we will continue to use all of the tools at our disposal to protect the people of our state.”

“I would like to encourage our community members to be vigilant when it comes to visiting websites and social media outlets,” said Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims. “Online predators often pretend to be someone else in order to lure their victims in and take advantage of them. They are master manipulators who pose a great danger to our children.”

“I am proud of the results of ‘Operation Hands Off Our Kids’ and thankful for all of the local, state, and federal law enforcement partners that worked diligently to identify and arrest predators in our city,” said Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama. “For those thinking about committing a crime against one of our children in our city, you can’t hide behind the anonymity of a computer screen in Fresno. The Fresno Police Department will continue to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute those that target and intend to hurt our children to the fullest extent of the law.”

“The investigation and prosecution of all forms of human trafficking is a top priority for our office,” said U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert. “Our office has an outstanding record of prosecuting human trafficking offenses, and we are committed to continuing and enhancing this critical work as we work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners.”

“The FBI is deeply committed to working collaboratively with our law enforcement partners at all levels to identify and arrest predators intent on exploiting youth,” said Special Agent in Charge Sean Ragan of the FBI Sacramento Field Office. “This operation is an example of how law enforcement can successfully work together to protect our nation’s youth and stop predators in their tracks.”

During Operation Hands Off Our Kids, law enforcement personnel worked undercover, posing as children as young as 13 years old, to identify, contact, and arrest anyone who may be trying to target children for sex. In these encounters, suspects used sexually explicit language and sent graphic photos to undercover personnel. Once suspects requested to meet with a child, law enforcement arrived at a predetermined location and arrested them. The operation began last Wednesday and lasted through Saturday. It was carried out across Fresno County in collaboration with multiple law enforcement partners. The arrests have been referred to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office for potential criminal prosecution.
