It's simple to make your own currency once you understand how an economy works. Franklin did it using the Colonial Scrips (pic related). Even though it was fiat, it can work. Same with King Henry using tally sticks as a way to pay taxes. First hour alone of that documentary I've already become PhD in economics / history btw.
