The other two alleged “checks and balances” can do nothing if the FBI, CIA, NSA, ONI, DIA and Pentagon and ‘Justice’ Department stick with the program that is operating more-or-less in the President’s name. A special, perhaps critical addition, is the broad support of MSM.

The only things that have restrained earlier presidents have been their principles, or (not and) their fear that they couldn’t get away with ignoring the law, or the realization that the entities listed above would not support them. The number of honest people with moderate to strong character in those entities has been declining over several decades. Fortunately for us there are still good people in all those places. Unfortunately, they have fewer and fewer reliable others to “have their backs,” and worse, the political leadership of those entities will stab them in the back without a moment’s hesitation.

As we’ve all seen, the current administration is getting away with things of which we would never have dreamed 10 years ago — or even two. I think the next two years will largely determine whether the US lasts as a single political entity through the decade of the ’20s. The USDollar is in REALLY bad trouble, particularly if anyone (think BRICS + Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Iran) gets together a commodity-based, backed, and guaranteed alternative reserve currency.
