Matt Taibbi, Selected to Release the Hunter Biden Laptop Twitter Files, Has a Checkered Past

Elon Musk released some information from Twitter showing how Twitter censored and shut down conservatives like The Gateway Pundit. His messenger was journalist Matt Taibbi.

On Friday night, Elon Musk released some information showing that Twitter censored conservatives before the 2020 Election and especially any reporting of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

Taibbi has a checkered past. The New York Post shared the following:

The journalist and author behind the so-called “The Twitter Files” that revealed the social media giant’s extreme steps to censor The Post’s Hunter Biden laptop scoop hinted about the “explosive” thread Thursday night and told his followers the four days leading up to the series of tweets were a “whirlwind.”

Matt Taibbi, known for his brazen, irreverent writing style that often ruffles feathers, was unmasked Friday night as the source of the damning Twitter censorship revelations that he backed up with insider sourcing and a series of redacted company emails.

Leading up to Friday, Musk had teased the release of details on how Twitter worked to squash The Post’s story but didn’t specify where the information would come from — or who would share it.

But now, after 17 years, Taibbi is suddenly claiming his book is not really all that true, that certain embarrassing, criminal, and misogynist events are “not a biographical reality,” that he and his co-writer went the fabulist route in a book sold as 100% truth.

US Intelligence Chief Predicts 'Reduced Tempo', Waning Morale Of Russian Forces Entering Winter

Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines has revealed the United States intel community's current assessment that it expects the intensity of the Ukraine-Russia war to wane going into the winter months, only to ramp-up again during counteroffensives in the spring.

"Once you get past the winter, the sort of question is: What will the counteroffensive look like?" Haines said before the Reagan Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California on Saturday. "We expect that, frankly, both militaries are gonna be in a situation where they’re gonna be looking to try to refit, resupply, in a sense, reconstitute, so that they’re kind of prepared for that counteroffensive."

"But we actually have a fair amount of skepticism as to whether or not the Russians will be, in fact, prepared to do that," she continued. "And I think most optimistically for the Ukrainians in that time frame."

Likely US intelligence's "skepticism" over Russian forces' capabilities at this point is related to being beat back in parts of the Donbas over the last two months, and particularly with last month's recapturing of the city of Kherson after Moscow ordered a large-scale pullback.

She further assessed that while the cold winter months will have a greater impact on Russians' morale, she hasn't seen the Ukrainian side lost their will, despite devastating missile attacks on the national energy grid meant to impose additional collective suffering.

"They’re doing this in order to undermine the Ukrainian will in effect, and I think we’re not seeing any evidence of that being undermined right now at this point," she said.

Additionally she underscored that Putin is at this point more keenly aware of Russian forces' "lack of performance and the fact that they did not accomplish more" but yet still may not be fully accepting of "just how challenged they are" - particularly the poor performance of ammo supply and logistics lines.

Speaking of Putin's chief objectives in the Ukraine invasion, Haines posed, "The challenge is, what does that mean for his near term [and] are they going to be as expansive as they were at the beginning?"

NATO Exists To Solve The Problems Created By NATO’s Existence

NATO has doubled down on its determination to eventually add Ukraine to its membership, renewing its 2008 commitment to that goal in a meeting between the foreign ministers of the alliance in Bucharest, Romania this past Tuesday.

The Romanian city was where NATO initially made the promise to Ukraine back in 2008, and at the time, US officials acknowledged that attempting to bring the country into the alliance could spark a war in the region.

“We made the decision in Bucharest in 2008 at the summit,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday. “I was there … representing Norway as Prime Minister. I remember very well the decisions. We stand by those decisions. NATO’s door is open.”

In a joint statement, the NATO foreign ministers, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, said that they “reaffirm” the decisions that were made at the 2008 Bucharest summit.

It has become fashionable among the mainstream western commentariat to claim that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had nothing to do with NATO expansion, but as recently explained by Philippe Lemoine for the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology, that’s a completely false narrative that requires snipping past comments made by Putin out of the context in which they were made. Many western experts warned for years in advance that NATO expansion would lead to a conflict like the one we’re seeing today, and they were of course correct.

The recent push to expand NATO in Ukraine along with nations like Finland and Sweden as justified by “Russian aggression” is a good example of what professor Richard Sakwa has called the “fateful geographical paradox: that NATO exists to manage the risks created by its existence.” As the late scholar on US-Russia relations Stephen Cohen explained years before the Ukraine crisis erupted in 2014, Moscow sees NATO as an “American sphere of influence,” and the expansion of NATO and NATO influence as expansion of that sphere. It reacts to this with hostility just as the US would react to China or Russia building up aggressive military alliances on its borders, and arguably with vastly more restraint than the US would.

Other future examples of Sakwa’s fateful geographical paradox are likely to include the push to reconfigure NATO into an alliance dedicated to “restraining” China, which of course means halting China’s rise on the world stage and working to constrict, balkanize and usurp it. A recent Financial Times article titled “Washington steps up pressure on European allies to harden China stance” gives new detail to this agenda:

The US is pushing European allies to take a harder stance towards Beijing as it tries to leverage its leadership on Ukraine to gain more support from Nato countries for its efforts to counter China in the Indo-Pacific.

According to people briefed on conversations between the US and its Nato allies, Washington has in recent weeks lobbied members of the transatlantic alliance to toughen up their language on China and to start working on concrete action to restrain Beijing.

US president Joe Biden identified countering China as his main foreign policy goal at the start of his administration, but his efforts have been complicated by the focus on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

But with Russian president Vladimir Putin’s invasion in its 10th month, Washington was making a concerted effort to push China back up Nato’s agenda, the people said.

43-year-old school administrator raped student, furnished minors with alcohol, investigators say

A school administrator in Georgia who has spent more than two decades in her position has been charged with statutory rape, child molestation, and furnishing minors with alcohol following a Halloween party that allegedly took place a few weeks ago.

On November 9, Murray County Schools Superintendent Steve Loughridge contacted Sheriff Jimmy Davenport to investigate a complaint he had received from a parent, alleging that a minors had been furnished with alcohol at a recent Halloween party.

Because the sheriff's office provides resource officers to the school district, Davenport feared a conflict of interest. So he handed off the investigation to the Conasauga District Attorney's Office. What the D.A.'s office found is quite disturbing.

According to reports, Rachelle Louise Terry, 43, of the Murray County School District attended a Halloween party with minor students whom she supplied with alcoholic beverages. Even worse, she allegedly had a sexual relationship with one of the students at the party as well.

The exact date and location of the party are both unknown.

The day before Thanksgiving, Terry — who lives in Chatsworth, Georgia, about 90 miles north of Atlanta — turned herself in to Murray County Jail on five counts of purchasing alcohol for minors and five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She has also been charged with child molestation and statutory rape.

The age of consent in Georgia is 16, and any sexual relationship between a school staff member and a student is generally illegal. However, Georgia law reportedly stipulates that, in order to violate that law with a student at least 16 years of age, school administrators or teachers must have "supervisory or disciplinary authority" over that student. The age of the alleged victims in this case and their connection to Terry remain unknown.

Terry, who is married, is listed as the director of federal programs and enrollment for MCSD. The Daily Mail reports that she has held the position for 22 years and earns approximately $110,000 a year.

District spokeswoman Derichia Lynch confirmed that Terry has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further investigation.

"Because she is under contract, her leave must be with pay until a hearing can be conducted," Lynch stated.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has also been apprised of the allegations and is asking for tips.

Widespread Power Outage in North Carolina Investigated as a ‘Criminal Occurrence’

Authorities in North Carolina said Saturday that a power outage affecting tens of thousands of people is being investigated as a “criminal occurrence.”

Gov. Roy Cooper issued a statement Sunday morning about outages and said that an investigation is underway.

He wrote that “I have spoken with Duke Energy and state law enforcement officials about the power outages in Moore County. They are investigating and working to return electricity to those impacted. The state is providing support as needed.”

In a social media post, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said that power outages were being reported after 7 p.m. ET on Saturday in the county. It said that instances of “vandalism” were discovered, though they were not described.

“As utility companies began responding to the different substations, evidence was discovered that indicated that intentional vandalism had occurred at multiple sites,” the sheriff’s office said. “Moore County Sheriff’s Deputies and various other law enforcement agencies within the county responded to the different areas and are providing further site security.”

It added that people “with any information about this act of violence should contact the Moore County Sheriff’s Office at 910-947-2931.”

It appears that no suspects have been arrested or identified in connection to the incident. No motive has been publicly revealed.

Nearly 40,000 customers were without power in Moore County as of Sunday morning, according to an outage map provided by utility Duke Energy. Moore County is located near the city of Fayetteville.

Duke Energy’s website said that the estimated restoration will occur by 10 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Power crews reported “multiple equipment failures” that are impacting Moore County power stations, Duke Energy spokesman Jeff Brooks told WRAL-TV. “We are also investigating signs of potential vandalism related to the outages,” Brooks added.

Authorities also told residents to stay off the roads and said that some sewer services in the area aren’t working. The reason why, officials said, is because some traffic lights aren’t working.

“There are multiple accidents that have occurred,” the town of Southern Pines said on Facebook on Saturday night.

“We also advise staying off the roads if you are in a safe location,” the post said. “There are multiple accidents that have occurred. Might we suggest that some of you update your Christmas lists to include a refresher book on rules of the road?! Hint…when a traffic light isn’t working, each driver should treat the intersection as if it has a 4-way stop sign.”

A social media alert from the Village of Pinehurst instructed residents to stay off the roads and treat intersections as four-way stops. It said that more police officers were called to assist.

Secret Service Finds Hundreds of Pages on Hunter Biden Gun Incident

The U.S. Secret Service (USSS) has located hundreds of pages of records on President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden and a discarded gun.

Hunter Biden’s sister-in-law, Hallie Biden, reportedly threw his handgun in a trash container in Delaware in 2020. Agents with Secret Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) were reportedly involved.

Based on the reports, a transparency group called Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Secret Service asking for records related to the incident, including reports, telephone logs, and witness statements.

The Secret Service, in its initial April 2021 response, said it located records and would process them. But more than a year later, in October, it said the response was sent in error and that the agency had never actually located any responsive records.

The third change came in a recent court filing that was lodged after Judicial Watch sued over the matter. The Secret Service now says more than 100 records have been located.

“Since the Complaint was filed, the Parties have conferred about the intended scope of Judicial Watch’s FOIA request and, in response, USSS has run supplemental searches and located over 100 records, totaling over 400 pages, potentially responsive to Judicial Watch’s request under the clarified understanding of that request,” the Secret Service and Judicial Watch said in a joint case report filed on Nov. 10 with the U.S. court in Washington, D.C.

“The Secret Service’s changing story on records raises additional questions about its role in the Hunter Biden gun incident,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “One thing is clear, Judicial Watch’s persistence means the public may get records that the Secret Service suggested didn’t exist.”

The Secret Service did not respond to a request for comment.

The Secret Service told The Epoch Times in September, in response to a FOIA request similar to the one from Judicial Watch, that it “searched all Program Offices that were likely to contain potentially responsive records, and no records were located.”

In 2021, a Secret Service spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email that the agency “maintains there was no Secret Service involvement in the matter.”

The ATF has already acknowledged having records of the incident, but a judge ruled that the agency did not have to disclose them.

Arizona polygamous leader Samuel Bateman had 20 wives, most under age 15

An Arizona polygamist cult leader has been accused of marrying 20 women, most of whom are under the age of 15, as well as his daughter.

Samuel Rappylee Bateman, 46, has been accused of marrying up to 20 women and girls as young as 9-years-old, according to an FBI affidavit filed Friday in Washington.

The affidavit, obtained by the Salt Lake Tribune, outlines horrifying accusations of incest, group sex acts involving adults and children and child sex trafficking against Bateman.

Bateman leads an offshoot group of the Mormon Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), but has been held in an Arizona jail since the FBI raided his two Colorado City homes in September.

Agents looked for evidence of underage marriages or sexual relationships between adults and children, according to the Tribune.

While Bateman has not been charged with sexual abuse, the affidavit claims the FBI has probable cause to believe he and others transported minors between Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Nebraska to engage in illicit sexual conduct between May 2020 and November 2021.

Bateman “began to proclaim he was a prophet” in 2019, and gained about 50 followers and over 20 wives, most of whom are minors under the age of 15, according to the affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Dawn A. Martin.

The majority of his wives are daughters, sisters and mothers from two extended polygamous families, according to the affidavit.

Martin was provided audio recordings of a November 2021 conversation in which Bateman said “Heavenly Father” had instruction him to “give the most precious thing he has, his girls’ virtue,” to three of his adult male followers.

Bateman then allegedly watched the three adult men have sex with his daughters, one of whom was only 12-years-old, according to the affidavit.

He allegedly went on to say his daughters had “sacrificed their virtue for the Lord” and that “God will fix their bodies and put the membrane back in their body. I’ve never had more confidence in doing his will. It’s all out of love,” Martin quoted Bateman as saying.
