I'm tired of seeing bullshit like this spread by people who've never seriously been poor, looked into receiving unemployment, or bothered to educate themselves in economics. First of all, you can't just quit your job and start raking in free money. There are many hoops through which you must jump - a great many people such as myself, who could dearly use it, cannot qualify.
Secondly, this isn't the fault of unemployment benefits: if the individual employers adjusted wages to keep up with inflation, this wouldn't be as much of an issue. But, because they'd rather spend their profit on stock buybacks and everything they can to avoid passing on inflation to the consumer, the employees are the ones who pay for it in diminished real returns and increased workloads because the employers aren't keeping full staff - they're trying to get by with as little as possible.
The same ignorant asshats who kvetch about unemployment are the ones who bitch about McDonalds workers wanting $18 or more minimum wage. It is ENTIRELY REASONABLE for employees to want their wages to keep up with inflation. They aren't entitled - they just know they can't live on what the employer pays, regardless of how normal the federal government considers it in their tax brackets and poverty guidelines.
Stop using this economically ignorant argument about the labor force fucked up because of unemployment benefits, your oversimplification is damaging to the efforts to educate others.
