Yes I’ve even noticed more of the tools used now. Most especially sharing a tweet, the β€œcopy the link” is frozen on anything related to patriotism, against abortion, trans, election rigging & controversial conservative causes. Example from last night, this was from Kari Lakes war room, she complained about it to Elon. But it happens on many more people.

 

I’m not on Twitter but I have copied links since 2018, I never encountered being unable to copy the link until the time Elon took over, not once.

A new study by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, a free market advocacy group, suggests that excessive unemployment benefits may be one contributing factor.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the U.S. workforce participation rate was at 62.1% in November. This was a bit lower from where it was prior to February 2020 and the pandemic caused unemployment rates to skyrocket.

 

There are 5.6 million people in this country who can work but haven’t actively looked for work in the past four weeks or were unavailable to take a job, the agency reports.

Casey Mulligan, professor of economics at the University of Chicago, and EJ Antoni, research fellow for regional economics at the Heritage Foundation’s Center for Data Analysis, produced a study that found that in 24 states, Wyoming included, unemployment benefits and Affordable Care Act subsidies for a family of four with both parents not working are the equivalent of at least the national median household income.

 

In Wyoming, the study says the earned income equivalent for a family with both parents not working and two dependents, including unemployment and ACA benefits, was $79,294 last year.

 

Wyoming ranks 14th among all states, with Washington having the highest at $122,653. Mississippi’s combined benefits for the same size family was the lowest at $37,486.

 

β€œThese β€˜safety net programs’ are designed to keep families out of poverty,” the study’s authors wrote. β€œBut the expansion of assistance, especially in subsidized health insurance to families with children and no parents working, can mean that families can earn as much or more income from receiving government assistance than the median household does from working.”

 

Pandemic Effect

 

During the pandemic, the federal government kicked in supplemental unemployment benefits to the tune of $600 per week, which was on top of state benefits, and the number of job openings rose sharply.

 

In August 2020, which was the first full month in which the supplemental benefit wasn’t offered, the number of job openings declined.

 

A $300 weekly supplemental benefit was introduced in January 2021, job openings again rose, according to the study. Job openings would again decline in August 2021, when half of states terminated the extra benefits.

 

These are on top of other financial help available to people, like rental assistance programs.

 

Far-Reaching impacts

 

Mulligan told Cowboy State Daily that the tendency for the federal government to increase unemployment benefit amounts or extend the time a person can receive benefits during times of economic hardship will have far-reaching impacts on the economy.

 

β€œIf and when the federal government were to acknowledge a recession, it would immediately create and expand even more benefits for those who are unemployed or poor, thereby making the recession deeper and longer,”Mulligan said.

 

Inhis 2012 book β€œThe Redistribution Recession,”Mulligan analyzed how well-intended responses to the economic circumstances of the Great Recession reduced incentives for people to work and businesses to hire.

Former NATO commander urges long-range weapons for Ukraine

 

The West should reassess its policies on weapons delivery for Ukraine, retired general Philip Breedlove believes

 

Ukraine should be able to strike deeper into Russian territory, retired US general Philip Breedlove has said. The former supreme NATO commander for Europe made the remarks in an interview with the Russian-language Voice of America outlet published Thursday.

 

β€œI think we should review our rules regarding the types of weapons that we supply to Ukraine, and we should give them more opportunities to inflict deep strikes on the aggressor. With our restrictions, we have actually created a safe haven for the Russian military in its territory,” Breedlove stated.

 

Kiev has repeatedly demanded long-range weaponry from its Western backers amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. So far, however, the US and others have abstained from providing such weapons, citing fears of an escalation and an all-out war between Russia and NATO.

 

Breedlove has openly admitted that Ukraine is waging a war on behalf of the West against Russia, urging the lifting of any restrictions on arms use by Kiev.

 

Ukraine is now fighting Russia on behalf of the entire Western world, and I would say to all our politicians: if you have already limited your actions in order to prevent our armies from fighting Russia, then you must do everything possible to provide help for Ukraine to defeat Russia.

Amid the ongoing conflict, Breedlove has repeatedly produced war-like remarks in rallying support for Ukraine. Back in July, for instance, the former general encouraged Kiev to strike the Crimean Bridge, which links the peninsula to Russia’s mainland. The bridge was a β€œlegitimate target” for Ukraine to strike, Breedlove claimed, adding that its destruction would be a β€œhuge blow” to Moscow.

 

The bridge was heavily damaged in a major explosion early in October. Moscow has described the incident as a β€œterrorist attack,” blaming it on Kiev and its Western backers. While the incident has been widely celebrated in Ukraine by common citizens and top officials alike, Kiev has denied its involvement.

 

The Crimean Bridge blast, as well as other saboteur attacks on Russian soil, attributed to Ukrainians, ultimately triggered a massive bombing campaign against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Moscow maintains the goal of the campaign is to damage Kiev’s warfighting capabilities.

European industry, which already partly has to do this, will have to deal with higher emission costs, and companies from outside Europe will pay for their emissions at the border. The money raised with this can be spent on climate plans.

 

If you do not like this new legislation, now is the time to make your voice heard.

 

Personally, I pledge to make efforts to increase my carbon emissions in protest to this plan.

 

In fact, I am thinking about firing up my wood stove even now.

 

The good news, if you want to call it that, is that the new carbon taxes are not scheduled to be implemented until 2027.

Former Santa Monica Mayor Dies in Small Plane Crash on Beach

 

A former mayor of Santa Monica, California, died after a small plane crash-landed and flipped upside down on a beach in the coastal California community, authorities said.

 

Rex Minter was a passenger in the single-engine Cessna that took off from Santa Monica Airport about 3 p.m. Thursday en route to Malibu. The pilot was taken to a hospital.

 

The City of Santa Monica and current Mayor Gleam Davis separately confirmed Minter’s death.

 

According to a flight recording, the pilot reported engine trouble and tried to return to the airport but then decided to make an emergency landing, KCBS-TV reported.

 

In a recording played on KTTV-TV, air traffic control warns the pilot that β€œlanding on the beach will be at your own risk.”

 

β€œI wish I had another choice,” the pilot replied.

 

Video showed the plane descending for a beach landing but hitting the water at the shoreline and flipping over south of the Santa Monica Pier.

 

Firefighters removed two people from the plane, one of them in cardiac arrest, authorities said.

 

Minter was elected to the Santa Monica City Council in 1955 and served as mayor between 1963 and 1967, later serving as city attorney for Arcadia and as a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, a statement on the city’s website said.

 

Davis said in a tweet that she had relayed the city’s condolences to Minter’s family.

Blood Pressure Drug Recalled Due to Cancer-Causing Chemical: FDA Announcement

 

A drug manufacturer announced this week it is recalling lots of blood pressure medication Quinapril after a cancer-causing impurity was discovered, according to an announcement carried by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

 

Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. said that it is voluntarily recalling four lots of Quinapril tablets due to the presence of nitrosamine, which was observed in recent testing that found levels above the acceptable daily intake level set by regulators. The company noted that it stopped marketing Quinapril tablets in September 2022.

 

According to the announcement, the firm has not received any reports of illnesses connected to the impurity issue. The impurity was found in 20 mg and 40 mg tablets of the drug shipped across the United States. Affected lot numbers are G102929, G100533, G100534, and G203071, and they have expiration dates of April 2023, December 2022, and March 2024.

 

β€œNitrosamines are common in water and foods, including cured and grilled meats, dairy products, and vegetables. Everyone is exposed to some level of nitrosamines. These impurities may increase the risk of cancer if people are exposed to them above acceptable levels over long periods of time,” the recall announcement said.

 

The drug is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that is used to treat hypertension and lower blood pressure. Lupin’s announcement said that patients taking the drug are advised to keep taking the drug and speak with their healthcare provider about an alternative treatment.

 

β€œLupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. is notifying its wholesalers, distributors, drug chains, mail order pharmacies and supermarkets by phone and through recall notification and is arranging for the return of all the recalled product lots,” the recall notice stated, adding: β€œWholesalers, distributors and retailers that have Quinapril Tablets USP, 20mg, and 40mg that are being recalled should discontinue distribution of the recalled product lots immediately.”

 

Several weeks ago, another drug company, Aurobindo Pharma USA, announced it would voluntarily recall two lots of blood pressure medication due to the same impurity.

 

The New Jersey-based firm initiated the recall of quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide in 20 milligram and 12.5 milligram tablets due to the presence of the chemical, which is associated with a higher risk of cancer. Like Lupin, Aurobindo said it did not receive any reports of adverse incidents associated with the medication.

Pennsylvania Democrat Rep. Susan Wild is set to secure in the pending $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill roughly $1 million that will be directed to a children's mental health asylum she defended in a molestation case in 2005.

 

The funding bill passed in the Senate on Thursday and is expected to pass in the House on Friday to avert a partial government shutdown at midnight.

 

The $1 million earmarked for KidsPeace, a Pennsylvania nonprofit Wild represented in a lawsuit.

 

The lawsuit was filed by a former patient who was raped by a counselor, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

 

Wild, an attorney, defended KidsPeace and has been on record saying that the nonprofit did not "crystal ball" to prevent the counselor's "malfeasance." However, the counselor had been charged years earlier in the suffocation death of a 12-year-old patient.

 

In a letter, Wild selected KidsPeace out of multiple applications submitted to her office for congressional spending.

 

During WIld's 2022 election, a Republican PAC attacked her actions in an ad, stating that "Wild is pushing for a million dollars in taxpayer money for the hospital, the same hospital that paid her."

 

Wild responded to that ad saying "Oh shut up. I represented a medical organization in connection with its claim against its own insurance company that was refusing to pay the claim. I had nothing to do with the underlying claim."

Texas 2020 election audit find 'serious issues’ in Harris County, 'phantom voters' in Dallas County

 

The audit was conducted by the Texas Secretary of State office.

 

The Texas Secretary of State office has released the final part of its 2020 general election audit for Collin, Dallas, Harris and Tarrant counties, with the most serious issues reportedly occurring in Harris, the state’s most populous county.

 

The report released Monday states Texas voters overall can have a "very high level of confidence in the accuracy of the outcome of Texas elections" when state election code and local procedures are followed.

 

However, the audit found Dallas County had two large problems including "phantom voters," according to the Epoch Times.

 

Secretary of State John Scott ordered the full forensic audit last year amid concerns about voter fraud. It was designed to represent the two largest Democrat-controlled and GOP-controlled counties, Dallas and Harris and Collin and Tarrant, respectively, according to the report.

 

In Harris County, the problems were severe enough that the Secretary of State’s office notified the county of the audit’s preliminary findings ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, the 359-page report also shows.

 

The audit included machines and software, security, voter registration, provisional voting, mail-in voting, chain of custody and records management, the Epoch Times also reports.

 

In Harris County, the audit showed "very serious issues in the handling of electronic media."

 

At least 14 mobile ballot boxes did not have proper chain of custody records for 184,999 ballots.

 

In addition, the county failed to provide documentation for the creation of 17 mobile ballot boxes connected to 124,630 cast vote records. And tally audit logs for over two dozen early-polling places and eight Election Day polling locations did not match the electronic records, also according to the Epoch Times.

 

Another issue involved the storage of voting records. The audit counted 534 boxes warehoused but was unable to confirm whether this was all of the records.

 

Dallas County's two biggest issues were related to problems with electronic poll books and losing experienced staff members.

 

The county's electronic equipment created at least 188 "phantom voters," according to the report. And it misplaced 318 provisional votes that were discovered in February 2021. In addition, 21 mail-in ballots were credited to voters, but their sealed, unopened ballots were discovered during the audit.

Five convicted in cocaine, COVID PPP fraud scheme

 

Five people have been convicted on charges related to a $1.4 million scheme to take Paycheck Protection Program funds for a fake business while selling cocaine.

 

In 2020, Jemar Mason, a convicted drug offender from Grand Rapids, joined a scheme with four other people: Andre Jackson, a former police officer from Georgia, Jackson’s β€œaccountant,” a local used-car salesman, and a local cocaine user named David Kurbanov.

 

The group submitted fraudulent applications for Paycheck Protection Program loans authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which provided emergency financial assistance to the millions of Americans suffering from the economic effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The CARES Act authorized forgivable loans to small businesses through the PPP program, designed to provide small businesses with loans to keep employees on the payroll. Mason and his co-conspirators exploited the program to obtain about $1.4 million in fraud proceeds.

 

Afterward, the five attempted to hide the proceeds by marking expenditures like car purchases as β€œpayroll” expenses. Mason and Kurbanov also tried to wire $500,000 to an overseas bank account selected to invest the money for their own profit.

 

Mason was sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

 

β€œInstead of treating the COVID-19 pandemic as a tragedy, Jemar Mason welcomed it as an opportunity to get rich quick. He took money intended to keep workers from losing their jobs, all while dealing cocaine.” U.S. Attorney Mark Totten for the Western District of Michigan said in a statement. β€œMy office remains committed to holding fraudsters fully accountable for their misdeeds.”

 

Investigators from the Internal Revenue Service detected the plot and froze the bank accounts of the conspirators, ultimately recovering about $1.1 million of the fraud proceeds. Federal prosecutors in the Western District of Michigan charged the five codefendants, who have now been convicted in connection with the scheme.

 

Mason was also allegedly trafficking cocaine. After obtaining a Title III wire intercept, investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration learned that Mason, his coconspirators, and associates were actively dealing drugs throughout West Michigan. Search warrants later uncovered multiple stash locations that were used to hide drugs, firearms, and drug-dealing tools.

 

Mason’s prison term of 87 months will be followed by six years of probation.

 

β€œMason exploited the pandemic to defraud United States taxpayers for his own personal gain,” Acting Special Agent in Charge Charles Miller, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, Detroit Field Office, said in a statement. "IRS-CI is proud to work with our law enforcement partners to hold wrongdoers accountable and to protect the integrity of vital federal assistance programs.”

 

The charges were part of an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation, dubbed Operation Cashout, ran by state, federal, and local governments.

MP is suspended from Parliament a week after β€œvaccine harms speech” but he has not been silenced

 

After his tremendous speech in Parliament last Tuesday, Member of Parliament Andrew Bridgen was asked to provide a list of references that he relied on to write his β€œvaccine harms debate speech.” He has uploaded a resource list on his website HERE. β€œThis is the same list that was sent to journalists and so-called β€˜fact checking’ websites,” Mr. Bridgen said.

 

He has since been suspended from attending Parliament. But this hasn’t stopped him from speaking out. This week he has given interviews with Irreverend and, a few days later, James Delingpole. Another argument Full Fact attempted to make was that absolute risk reduction and relative risk reduction are two different things – a point Mr. Bridgen had already highlighted in his speech. On another point, simply because Full Fact’s bloggers weren’t able to replicate statistics Mr. Bridgen used from a study regarding children under 5, the blogger determines Mr. Bridgen’s statistics can’t be true.

 

The final point Full Fact made beggars belief. The conscientious bloggers overlooked the part in Mr. Bridgen’s speech regarding the conflicts of interest and corruption in the UK’s regulatory bodies and boldly argued Mr. Briggen must be wrong because β€œmRNA Covid-19 vaccines have been approved as safe and effective.” You couldn’t make it up!

Mr. Bridgen is Suspended

 

A week to the day after Mr. Bridgen courageously gave his speech calling for the suspension of Covid injections, he was given a 5-day suspension from Parliament and could be in danger of losing almost a month’s pay.

 

The reasons given for the suspension were:

 

two days for failing to declare that he received a paid trip to Ghana in eight emails to ministers; and

three days for writing to the Standards Commissioner Kathryn Stone asking if she had been lobbying to receive a peerage.

 

Express UK reported that there had been concerns that he could have had his suspension doubled to 10 days after an appeal which would have triggered a recall vote in his constituency but his suspension remains at five days.

 

As the news of Mr. Bridgen’s suspension was breaking, Darren McCaffrey of GB News reported that Mr. Bridgen’s suspension was in no way related to his speaking out against vaccine harms because it dates back to a couple of months ago. Mr. Bridgen had filed an appeal and it was his appeal that was denied on Tuesday.

 

However, we cannot ignore that Mr. Bridgen was suspended from Parliament and is also the one who publicly called out the safety of the Covid injections in no uncertain terms. Mr. Bridgen may have been found guilty of breaking the rules, but is he the only one?

 

There have been 11 MPs suspended from Parliament since the beginning of 2020, each being given between one and five days suspension. Installed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is not one of them. Whatever Mr. Bridgen’s trip to Ghana was worth it’s nowhere near the amount of Β£2.1m per year income tax Sunak’s wife avoided paying. This tax avoidance was also happening when Sunak was Chancellor of the Exchequer and was responsible for raising revenue through taxation or borrowing and for controlling public spending.

HSI Panama, Costa Rica investigation results in 19 arrests, 77 rescues linked to human smuggling

 

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Panama, in coordination with the local Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit (TCIU), in addition to HSI Operation Expanded Impact Costa Rica and the Government of Costa Rica, executed 20 arrest warrants and 23 search warrants that resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals, the seizure of several vehicles, and the rescue of 77 migrants, Dec. 13. The individuals rescued were from various countries enroute to the United States, including nationals from Colombia, Ecuador, India, Nicaragua, Sri Lanka, and Venezuela. The arrests included six employees of the migration service for Panama.

β€œHSI will continue to coordinate with Panamanian law enforcement and judicial authorities to identify and monitor the smuggling of immigrants through Panama, while helping bring perpetrators of associated crimes to justice,” said Patrick McElwain, Assistant Director of HSI International Operations. β€œOur Panama TCIU will continue to exploit investigative leads across Panama and surrounding countries to ensure criminal organizations are detected, disrupted, and swiftly dismantled.”

 

In November 2020, the HSI Panama TCIU received information from the Panama National Police (PNP) that a checkpoint located on the Panamerican Highway in Santa Maria, Divisa, Herrera, Panama, had stopped and arrested two Panamanian citizens attempting to smuggle three Cuban nationals. Subsequent interviews and questioning led to the identification of Eliani MuΓ±oz Alcuria, who was later discovered to be a main coordinator for smuggling Cuban nationals through the Tocumen International Airport (PTY).

 

HSI Panama TCIU initiated an investigation and discovered this transnational criminal organization (TCO) of Cuban smuggling was highly complex. The TCO, which operates in Panama, managed to get clients to enter the country without meeting passport or visa requirements. The organization utilized various individuals and businesses to smuggle migrants to the province of ChiriquΓ­ and then transport individuals through other Central American countries with the ultimate intent of reaching the U.S.

 

Special agents were able to identify individuals and locations associated with the TCO – a Panamanian national known as Juan Manuel Nieto Marin was identified as another primary organizer. The organization relied heavily on Nieto Marin, a former Panamanian immigration official who worked at the PTY, for the mobilization and the stashing of irregular migrants.

 

HSI’s TCIUs enhance foreign partner countries’ ability to investigate and prosecute people involved in transnational criminal activities that threaten the region’s stability and national security and who pose continuing threats to the United States. TCIUs identify targets, collect evidence, share intelligence, and facilitate prosecution in the United States and foreign countries. In fiscal year (FY) 2022, HSI TCIUs conducted more than 3,800 criminal arrests, rescued 175 victims, and seized approximately $57 million in currency and criminally derived assets. TCIUs also seized more than 349,000 pounds of narcotics and precursor chemicals. HSI’s TCIUs facilitate information exchange and rapid bilateral investigation of various programmatic areas to include weapons trafficking and counter-proliferation, money laundering and bulk cash smuggling, human smuggling and trafficking, narcotics trafficking, intellectual property rights violations, and other customs fraud, child exploitation, and cyber-crimes within HSI’s investigative purview.

Meta to pay $1 billion settlement in Cambridge Analytica data access class action case

 

Facebook owner Meta has agreed to pay $US725 million (about $1 billion) to resolve a class action lawsuit that accused the social media giant of allowing third parties, including Cambridge Analytica, to access users' personal information.

The company obtained information from users through a researcher who was allowed to harvest data

The proposed settlement, which was disclosed in a US court filing late on Thursday, would resolve a long-running lawsuit prompted by revelations in 2018 that Facebook allowed the British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica to access the data of as many as 87 million users.

 

Lawyers for the plaintiffs called the proposed settlement the largest to ever be achieved in a US data privacy class action, and the most that Meta has ever paid to resolve a class action lawsuit.

 

"This historic settlement will provide meaningful relief to the class in this complex and novel privacy case," the lead lawyers for the plaintiffs, Derek Loeser and Lesley Weaver, said in a joint statement.

 

Meta did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement, which is subject to the approval of a federal judge in San Francisco.

 

The company said in a statement that settling was "in the best interest of our community and shareholders."

 

"Over the last three years we revamped our approach to privacy and implemented a comprehensive privacy program," Meta said.

 

Cambridge Analytica, now defunct, worked for Donald Trump's successful presidential campaign in 2016, and gained access to the personal information from millions of Facebook accounts for the purposes of voter profiling and targeting.

 

The company obtained that information without users' consent from a researcher who had been allowed by Facebook to deploy an app on its social media network that harvested data from millions of its users.

Former WA treasurer, and one-time Liberal leader, Troy Buswell, has pleaded guilty to breaching protective bail conditions by "intimidating" his ex-wife midway through his trial on charges of assaulting her.

Bail conditions prohibited him from intimidating her or discussing the trial

He has been handed a three-month suspended jail term for the offence

 

Buswell phoned Melissa Hankinson on August 20, 2021 when she was in the middle of being cross examined by Buswell's lawyers at his trial on six domestic violence charges.

 

The 56-year-old later pleaded guilty to half the assault charges and was given a suspended jail term of more than eight months, while the remaining three counts were dropped.

 

The Perth Magistrates Court was told on Friday that under bail conditions in place at the time, Buswell was allowed to contact Ms Hankinson but was not to intimidate or abuse her, or discuss the trial.

 

However Buswell made a series of phone calls to her and her 12-year-old daughter.

 

While he remained silent in the initial calls, he ended up having an almost three-hour conversation with Ms Hankinson, most of which she recorded.

Police prosecutor, Guy Murphy, said the two discussed family, their relationship and ultimately the trial, with Buswell making comments to Ms Hankinson β€” a police officer β€” such as "if you lose, that's bad news for you because you'll be unemployed".

The Other Lab in Wuhan: The German-Chinese β€œLaboratory for Virus Research”

 

The β€œlab-leak” theory is enjoying a strong revival at the moment, thanks in part to Elon Musk having obliquely endorsed it in a Tweet while clearly point the finger at Anthony Fauci: β€œAs for Fauci, he lied to Congress and funded gain-of-function research that killed millions of people.”

 

This despite the fact that an article in Science appeared to have already put the theory to rest over a year ago by showing that the initial cluster of Covid-19 cases in Wuhan was located on the opposite (left) bank of the Yangtze River from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is commonly supposed to be the pandemic’s epicenter according to the β€œlab-leak” theory.

 

But unbeknownst to most observers, there was in fact another infectious diseases lab in Wuhan, the German-Chinese Joint Laboratory of Infection and Immunity, and it is located on the same side of the river in the cluster.

 

The below map from the Science article makes the distance of the cluster from the two campuses of the Wuhan Institute of Virology clear – although the article itself coyly refrains from referring to the Institute.

 

Instead, the article shows that even if many of the earliest known cases of Covid-19 in Wuhan did not have any β€œepidemiologic link” to the famous Huanan wet market, the great majority of them were clustered in the vicinity of the market. This suggests – as per the quasi-official account – that the epidemic started in the market by way of animal-to-human (zoonotic) transmission and then spread to the surrounding area via β€œcommunity transmission.”

 

Ergo, the β€œlab-leak” theory is dead.

 

Except that there is also an infectious diseases lab in the area of the cluster: the aforementioned German-Chinese Joint Laboratory of Infection and Immunity at Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College. The laboratory is a joint project of Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College and the University Hospital of Essen in Germany. Prof. Ulf Dittmar, chair of the virology department in Essen, has also referred to the joint laboratory as the β€œEssen-Wuhan Laboratory for Virus Research.”

 

(See interview here [in German]. It should be noted that in the cited interview, conducted in January 2020, Dittmar downplays the dangerousness of the novel Coronavirus and warns against β€œhysterical” reactions.)

 

Helpfully, the map from the Science article also indicates the locations of the Chinese host institutions of the joint laboratory: the Union and Tongji hospitals. Per the legend, they are indicated by crosses 5 and 6: right next to the home location of what the article identifies as β€œcluster 1,” an elderly husband and wife who represent β€œthe earliest known case cluster and the only cluster admitted by 26 December. They had no known connection to Huanan Market.” (Red dots on the map indicate cases with a known connection to the market; blue dots those that have no known connection.) The Tongji Hospital is the closest to β€œcluster 1.”

 

Astonishingly, in early September 2019, only three months before the allegedly initial outbreak of Covid-19 just a stone’s throw from Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, then German Chancellor Angela Merkel paid a visit to none other than…Tongji Hospital in Wuhan. The hospital is also known as the German-Chinese Friendship Hospital.

 

A photo of Chancellor Merkel being welcomed by nurses at the hospital reception can be seen here. The accompanying article in the German newspaper Die SΓΌddeutsche Zeitung notes another highly intriguing fact: the Essen University Hospital is not the only German teaching hospital with which Tongji has a β€œclose partnership.”

 

It also has a partnership with the CharitΓ© Hospital in Berlin of Germany’s β€œstate virologist” Christian Drosten! Drosten is the chair of the virology department at the CharitΓ©.

"She filed a letter with the Clerk of the House of Representatives on Monday stating that she was "unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency," and designated Republican Rep. Barry Moore of Alabama to cast votes on her behalf.

 

Proxy voting is a pandemic-area procedure that was originally designed to allow members of Congress to avoid traveling to Washington, DC in order to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID. Since then, members of Congress have used it for all sorts of non-COVID reasons.

 

Nearly 200 other members of the House voted by proxy on Thursday and were also set to miss the omnibus vote on Friday, many of them likely leaving town early to avert travel delays caused by historic winter storms ahead of the holidays.

 

But Republicans, including Greene, have harshly criticized the practice, despite often using it themselves. Greene even introduced a bill in March of this year to eliminate the practice. "Now that COVID is over and we're back to normal life, Congresswoman Greene is ready to end proxy voting," Greene spokesman Nick Dyer told Insider in May.

 

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has vowed to end proxy voting if he becomes Speaker of the House in January."
