Samuel Colt won a contract to provide the U.S. government with 1,000 of his .44 caliber revolvers. The guns were mass-produced to be utilized in the Mexican-War.

FEELING WARMER? At 16:17 UT (11:17 EST) we are at perihelion - the Earth is at its closest to the Sun. At this time, we are getting 7% more solar energy than in July when we are at aphelion. That seems anomalous for those of us living the north, but Sun angle is a bigger factor.
