Anon has a question. Is it possible for the SC to take up a case (Brunson) and deny his Writ of Centiorari? Like if they look at the Writ and decide there is enough evidence to take it to trial (The Writ has been leap-frogged) then they simply dismiss it because they are on their way without it?

Yeah, that's probably right. But I remember hearing that the SC could simply adjudicate the case without a formal trial and they could do that under seal. Don't forget, the justices are under severe personal pressure & threat.
