Pretty similar to another theory I've got, that people who run the world fake it by spying on truly talented individuals and copying them as best they can. Then they use oppressive violence to make sure the real individuals never get close enough to challenge them, because the copy would obviously lose. Think of how Edison took credit for Tesla, but on a systemic level.
Funny enough, there is a certain prominent individual out there with a reputation for strange behaviour… which just coincidentally happens to align with the bait that I set to test this theory.
