Astronomy anon here. I've been observing comets since Comet West in 1976. Tail disconnection events are NOT unusual at all. Most comets experience multiple disconnection events as the near and round the Sun. Comets can even have multiple tails that are different colors and pointing in different directions. pic Comet West with near continuous disconnect events.

Hard to know without more info. All comets do this to some degree. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 fragmented into 21+ fragments and impacted Jupiter in 1992-1994.
You should report it to the American Meteor Society anon. Seriously. Only takes a few minutes. If you do make a report, check back often as others file reports on the same event.
