I'm reading notables from previous breads…."earth spinning direction changed in inner core"

Why do we seemingly have the ability to have telescopes that can see things light years away, find comets and project their direction, fly machines like rover to other planets….but "only have the ability to see seismic waves from decades of earthquakes" to understand the inside of our own planet? Doesn't add up.
