'There's so many': Parents excited about plethora of options at School Choice Expo.
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Parents are getting the chance to see what options are available for their kids. The Oklahoma City Convention Center hosted the seventh annual School Choice Expo on Wednesday, January 25.
Families tell Fox 25 they're very excited about their children's future, especially after seeing all those options. "Oh, man," Parent Lucas Smith said. "There's so many [options]."
This evening, parents entered a room full of different school leaders. "I was not sure about Oklahoma school systems," Parent Tom Cosgrove said. "Getting to meet some of the people in [the room] and see what they're offering really opened my eyes a little bit."
It gave mothers and fathers a better idea of where they want their kids to learn. "I just [saw] one school," Smith said. "It's an international school that's tuition free and they're bilingual, so they're teaching the kids Spanish and French. Then they offer classes to the parents as well. Who does that for free? It's just cool."
Some families also liked what they saw from the private schools at the event. "I think more advanced classes, especially college classes where you can start out early," Parent Gracie De La Torre said. "I don't think [my daughter's current school has] that choice."
While others had more of an interest in charter schools. "Well that's going to be the less money symbol over there," Cosgrove said. "Private schools can get a little expensive, so charter is helpful. But, I will say I did see quite a few free public schools [at the event] that offer all the way down to two years old, which is nice."
Even though people had different preferences, they can all agree on one thing. "Any opportunity we can have to get a decent education, we're going to take [it]," Cosgrove said.
With so much interest in bilingual schools, the event also had Spanish resources available to families.
