My theory is what happens when you render oil from the fat of a pig? You have to heat it. The Earth works the same way. As the Earth eats its crust, it renders all that was in/on that crust from the high temperatures emanating from Earths core. That rendering seeps upwards into the voids of the current crust. Hence oil & gas. imho

Oh, and those voids in the crust have past plant and animal parts and pieces in them. Cause they are not buried as a true solid, say as like a rock. Sandstone has lots of voids and is where a lot of oil & gas is found deep underground.
