There's an approx. magnitude-yield relationship established for nuclear test & magnitude of seismic events caused by those: mb = A + B log Y

with Y=Yield in kt, A=3.92, B=0.81 (depending on geology of surrounding rock)

Assuming that works for large magnitudes as 7.9 (which I doubt), 7.9 would roughly correspond to a 1 Megaton warhead.

So for an underground nuclear explosion causing a 7.9, it'd likely have to be higher, I believe

USGS has it that Test codenamed Cannikin (1971, undergound) using a 5 megaton device released energy equivalent to 6.9

https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/can-nuclear-explosions-cause-earthquakes

Part of that energy of course goes as heat & light

My blind guess is the Czar bomba (50 megatons) might shake it above 7, 7.5 or so.

There is an observation (not very often observed and not very well understood) that large magnitude sometimes are preceded by changes in magnetosphere/ionosphere above the event location.

I have no idea where that GOES satellite was at the time of that measurement

If it would be a regular occurrence or if it was well-understood, we'd of course use that to predict large earthquakes reliably.

But it isn't, unfortunately. While most interesting, anyone telling you it is, must be a regular viewer of that dutchsinse moron, or some such. Kek

Search for something like "magnetosphere anomaly preceding earthquakes" and you'll find a couple of papers/observations about it.

You asked, I gave you an answer as best as I know it.

$10 says durchsinse has never worked, much less understood a seismometer, or even processed its data output.

neither codescending, nor drama … simple observation & personal experience in that field.

Then don't ask next time.

Won't even go into how "he get it so right so often". Top Kek!

you go ahead, do you and believe what you will.

Science is corrupt anyways, and probably those seismologists are deliberatly hiding the truth that dutchsinse has figured out.

Kek!

Is that so? Oh dang, I'd never have guessed you were aiming for Q double-6 instead of triple 6 with all that number magic you were doing. Kek!

Tripz wasted for sure, moron!
