Bank of England blames Brexit for excess inflation
The country’s withdrawal from the EU free-trade area has fueled the surge in prices, the BoE’s Catherine Mann claims
Britain’s departure from the EU and the subsequent trade barriers have contributed to the inflation crisis in the country, Bank of England (BoE) policymaker Catherine Mann has claimed.
According to Mann, as cited by Bloomberg, there were signs that the cost-of-living crunch was beginning to abate in the US and the EU, but not yet in the UK.
All three had faced shocks to demand and supply driven by the “Covid and lockdown-induced global demand rotation and subsequent supply bottlenecks,” and the energy shock caused by Ukraine-related sanctions on Russia, Mann reportedly said on Monday at the Lamfalussy Lectures Conference in Budapest.
“However, the UK has also been affected by a third type of shock which makes it unique: no other country chose to unilaterally impose trade barriers on its closest trading partners,”she pointed out.
Mann’s comments come as inflation in the UK, which hit a four-decade high of 11.1% in October, has slightly cooled down to 10.5%, staying well above the BoE’s 2% target. Meanwhile, in the Eurozone, inflation has fallen back to 8.5%, while in the US it has declined to 6.5%.
Addressing inflation rates, Mann wondered: “Is there a turning point already visible in the data? For the US and the euro area, yes; for the UK, maybe stabilization.”
Last week, the BoE slashed its estimate of potential output, or the economy’s growth speed limit, to 0.7% for the next three years, blaming a “constellation of economic shocks”including Brexit. The figure is down from its 0.9% estimate in November.
The central bank has reiterated its predictions that the UK’s “level of productivity would be around 3.25% lower in the long run” because of its withdrawal from the EU free-trade area.

Poland explains stance on war planes for Ukraine
The transfer of fighter jets must first be approved within NATO, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said
NATO members have not reached a consensus on the possibility of sending fighter jets to Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said. He noted that such a move must be approved by the bloc as a whole.
“If we are not consistent in supporting Ukraine, the future of Europe will be in question and the price we have to pay will be very high,” Morawiecki told Spanish newspaper El Mundo in an interview published on Monday.
“However, all decisions on jet fighters will be made within NATO, and there is no agreement at the moment … No decision has been made.”
The statement comes after Polish Deputy Defense Minister Wojciech Skurkiewicz said last week that Warsaw was not planning on supplying Kiev with US-made F-16s. He insisted that this step could only be taken “in full coordination” with other NATO members.
Last month, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky renewed his plea for the country’s Western supporters to donate military aircraft. France and the Netherlands have said in the past that they were open to the transfer of the jets.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has denied that Washington was considering sending the F-16s to Ukraine. German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said last week that delivering fighter jets would “probably” be crossing a line with Russia and risk making Berlin a direct party to the conflict.
Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov earlier said that continued deliveries serve as further proof that Western countries were directly involved in the hostilities.

How Did Biden Admin Retroactively 'Discover' Chinese Balloons in the U.S During the Trump Years?

The Biden administration has been trying to plug a gigantic hole in their story about Chinese spy balloons flying over U.S. territory during the Trump administration with no one in the government aware of it.
Initially, the Biden administration sought to deflect attention from their failure to shoot down the balloon by noting that Chinese spy balloons transited U.S. territory three times during the Trump years. But when several Trump administration officials hotly denied that charge, Biden administration officials changed their story. They claimed that the balloons were only over U.S. territory briefly — skirting Hawaii and flying over part of Florida — unlike this latest spy balloon, which traversed the entire width of the country. They also claimed that the balloons weren’t detected.
But how do we know this if the balloons weren’t detected and national leaders weren’t informed of their presence?
The American military had a “domain awareness gap,” according to Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command.
“Every day as a NORAD commander, it’s my responsibility to detect threats to North America. I will tell you that we did not detect those threats,” VanHerck said. “And that’s a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out, but I don’t want to go into further detail.”
What’s a “domain awareness gap”? General VanHerck didn’t define the term, but Breaking Defense offered a partial explanation.
When VanHerck speaks of a “domain gap,” he’s referring to the U.S. Northern Command not having “the correct mix of sensor capabilities.”
The four-star general, a staunch proponent of beefing up US sensing capabilities to include over-the-horizon radars, did not disclose the number of past detection failures or where the balloons had flown. John Kirby, the White House National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, said today that the Biden administration discovered three incidents during the Trump administration when “surveillance balloons, by the [Chinese government] transited US airspace” for “brief periods of time.” On Saturday a senior defense official told reporters there had been another incident earlier in Biden’s presidency. None were for the duration of last week’s saga.
That still doesn’t answer the question of how the balloon transits were detected after the fact. Here we get into the classified area of intelligence gathering,
“The intel community, after the fact … assessed those threats through additional means of collection and made us aware of those balloons that were previously approaching North America or transiting North America,” VanHerck said. He noted that USNORTHCOM does not have the authority to collect intelligence inside US borders but was able to track the movement of last week’s balloon because it was granted “specific authorities.”
So part of the problem was jurisdictional.
But what those “additional means of collection” are is classified. It still doesn’t answer the question of why no one was informed if the intel was somewhere in some database. That would appear to be a big gap in our intelligence gathering that General VanHerck and Northern Command might want to address with all speed.

Insult to Injury: Biden Regime Distributes Anti-Police ‘Black Resistance’ Flyers to Border Agents

What could be a more thankless job than to be a Border Patrol agent during the misrule of Alleged President Joe Biden? As migrants continue to stream in unprecedented numbers across the essentially nonexistent Southern border, it’s clear that Biden’s handlers don’t want border officials to do their jobs, insofar as those jobs involve screening the new arrivals and endeavoring to keep criminals, terrorists, and other unsavory elements out of the country. It wants to bring as many migrants as possible into the country, no matter what price American citizens have to pay. It has also been quick to demonize border officials, even in open defiance of the facts. And now the Biden regime has added insult to injury by distributing Black Lives Matter anti-police agitprop to Border Patrol agents. Do they want Border Patrol agents demoralized enough to quit their jobs?
The Washington Free Beacon reported Monday that Biden’s ideologues “distributed ‘Black Resistance’ flyers to U.S. Border Patrol agents that celebrated the Black Lives Matter movement and anti-American activist Colin Kaepernick.” The U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Privacy and Diversity Office, which must be a delightful place to work, “circulated a poster that features the words #BlackPower, #BlackLivesMatter, and ‘Abolitionist,’ as well as watermarked images of Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) and Kaepernick.”
One Border Patrol officer spelled out exactly what is so outrageous about this: “BLM hates us, so does Maxine Waters. Kaepernick hates us. They’re anti-police advocates against the nation’s largest police agency.” Indeed. Black Lives Matter has said that Customs and Border Protection, “like other law enforcement agencies, are rooted in white supremacy and a history of slave-catching.” BLM added: “When we say #DefundThePolice, we mean all the police, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who are demonstrating their slave-catching roots, riding horseback, and beating Haitian asylum-seekers with whips.”
There was just one catch: CBP agents didn’t beat Haitian asylum-seekers, or anyone else, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas knew that in Oct. 2022 when he declared: “Our nation saw horrifying images that do not reflect who we are. We know that those images painfully conjured up the worst elements of our nation’s ongoing battle against systemic racism. The images horrified us in terms of what they suggest and what they conjure up.” As soon as it became clear that Mayorkas said this even though he knew that no one had been whipped, he should have been made to resign. The fact that he was not indicates yet again that this America-Last administration wants to demonize the CBP, and police in general, in order to further its radical agenda. Truth doesn’t matter. Only the narrative does. And the overall goal of transforming the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave into something else altogether by overwhelming its population with new arrivals who have markedly different political and cultural values.
The project is well underway. The CBP reports that its officers had 2,766,582 “encounters” with migrants at the borders during fiscal year 2022, up significantly from 1,956,519 in fiscal year 2021 and 646,822 in fiscal year 2020. In October and November of 2022, there were 561,291. If migrants keep streaming into the U.S. at that rate, there will be well over three million “encounters” in this fiscal year.
And so it’s clear: as far as Old Joe Biden’s handlers are concerned, CBP agents are the enemy. If they’re stubborn enough to stay on the job nonetheless, they will be inundated with propaganda designed to inculcate within them the idea that they are evil and are doing something that is intrinsically wrong. The endgame is to compel thoroughly propagandized agents either to quit their jobs or do what is now called “quiet quitting,” doing nothing while remaining on the taxpayer payroll, refusing to do the bidding of white supremacist Amerikkka in keeping the poor, noble, victimized brown migrants out.
Has there ever been an administration like this one, so thoroughly at war with its own people that it actively works to demoralize and destroy a key law enforcement agency? The Biden regime’s anti-American reign of terror makes the Obama administration look positively drenched in the old red, white, and blue. If the House Republicans are worth their salt, they will open investigations to discover who is responsible for pushing this anti-police agitprop upon the Border Patrol, and demand the resignations of everyone involved. We shall see.
