This is part of the reason it's important to read the "old testament" in the Bible, even when it seems far removed from our lives and maybe doesn't really make sense to us.
It's not only helpful for teaching about the ancient world, and the effects of human decisions, and man's moral duty to the Creator, and the personality of the Father spirit -
but the events in the OT are foreshadow-blueprints of things to come. As I understand it, in the Biblical worldview the flow of time is seen as cyclical/seasonal, not just linear.
One example: In the same way that Yehovah (through Moses) famously devastated the corrupt ruling class of the most powerful nation, and made ridicule of the dark magic religions, and freed the common people who were under slavery - later He (through Yeshua) made a public spectacle of defeating the spiritual prince of this world, exposing the corrupt religious rulers posing as righteous, and freeing the commoners from spiritual bondage to sin.
This pattern may be repeating again now with the downfall of the power elite who ran the world, exposing their dark murderous religion and liberating the victims of their corrupt systems.
Also this same type of event will be repeated again in the final chapter of "life as we know it" when Yeshua returns.
Another big example of "prophetic types" are the annual feasts - they may seem bizzare and irrelevant to us, but beyond the surface level they represent the major events in the prophetic timetable.
