Obama-Appointed Judge Amy Berman Jackson Orders Depositions of Trump, Wray in Lawsuit Related to Strzok’s Firing From FBI
A far-left Obama appointed federal judge ordered the depositions of Trump and FBI Director Wray in a lawsuit related to Peter Strzok’s firing.
Former FBI counterintelligence chief Peter Strzok in 2019 filed a lawsuit against the FBI and DOJ over his firing claiming the decision was based on “unrelenting pressure” from President Trump.
Peter Strzok, a key FBI agent in the Russia investigation was caught sending anti-Trump text messages to his paramour FBI lawyer Lisa Page and subsequently removed from the special counsel’s team in the summer of 2017.
Peter Strzok was fired from the FBI in 2018.
Federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson agreed to allow Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to depose Trump and Wray.

A federal judge has agreed to permit former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to take sworn testimony from former President Donald Trump for two hours as part of their long-running lawsuits related to Strzok’s firing in 2018 after Trump repeatedly and publicly pilloried the pair.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled on Thursday that Strzok and Page — whose text messages disparaging then-candidate Trump cast a pall over the FBI’s investigation of links between the Trump campaign and Russia — would also be allowed to depose FBI Director Christopher Wray for a similar two-hour period on a limited set of topics.
But there’s a twist: Their ability to ask Trump and Wray about these circumstances might come down to a decision from President Joe Biden. Jackson’s order gave the Justice Department a month to “inform the Court whether the current President will invoke … executive privilege” over any aspects of Trump’s testimony.
Jackson, an appointee of President Barack Obama, also stressed that she had not yet considered all potential objections to the demands for testimony from Trump and Wray. That could include arguments by Trump that he has the unilateral right as a former president to assert executive privilege.

Explosions In Iranian City Which Hosts Nuclear Facility, Air Defenses Activated
Reports are emerging of a possible attack on a military facility in the city of Karaj on Thursday night, at a moment tensions are boiling between Tehran and Israel over the Islamic Republic's advancing nuclear program.
The BBC’s Persian-language service reported that widespread gunshots and and explosions were observed in the area, which lies just west of the Iranian capital. Anti-aircraft fire was also seen in multiple circulating clips, which remain unverified.
However, the Iranian government is denying that it was a hostile attack from a foreign force, instead calling it a live-fire defense exercise.
Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency tweeted a video describing military training in the area.
Israeli media has also picked up on the claims of an attack, while noting that a key nuclear facility is located in Karaj. As The Jerusalem Post recounts:
Defense facilities in and near Karaj have been targeted by attacks repeatedly in recent years.
In July 2021, Iran blamed Israel for a sabotage operation that targeted a building belonging to Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) in Karaj the month before.
One journalist and observer of the region described that "An unofficial report circulating online says that a depot of IR-6 centrifuges in Kondar village, 24 km from Karaj, Alborz province, was targeted Thursday night." However, there's no independent confirmation of this, despite the widely circulating videos.
Bloomberg reported Sunday that Iran has currently reached an 84% uranium enrichment level, a new high. While Iran has all long claimed it is only for peaceful nuclear energy purposes, the number needed for achieving an atomic bomb is 90%.

Video reportedly from the scene shared on social media showed Iranian air defense batteries firing towards unseen targets.
Explosions were heard in Karaj near Tehran in central Iran on Thursday night, with initial reports indicating that air defenses in the area were activated.
The official Iranian IRNA news outlet claimed that the explosions and the activation of air defenses were part of an IRGC defense exercise near Karaj.
Video reportedly from the scene shared on social media showed air defense batteries firing towards unseen targets.
The background of the incident is as of yet unclear.
The incident comes just a few weeks after suicide drones targeted an IRGC facility in Isfahan. Iran has blamed Israel for that attack and claimed that no significant damage was caused.
Attacks on Iranian defense infrastructure
Defense facilities in and near Karaj have been targeted by attacks repeatedly in recent years.
In July 2021, Iran blamed Israel for a sabotage operation that targeted a building belonging to Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) in Karaj the month before.
In September 2021, a fire broke out at the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group missile base in Karaj, near Tehran, killing two workers and injuring one at the facility. The IRGC-affiliated Sobh-e-Sadegh newspaper later reported that the fire was caused by an Israeli attack.
In June of this year, an explosion shook western Tehran, with satellite imagery shared by the Intelli Times website appearing to show damage to the roof of a structure at the Shahid Hemmat Base, indicating that the base had been targeted for a second time.

Steve Bannon’s lawyers claim he owes them almost $500,000 in legal fees
Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, has been sued for more than $480,000 by a New York law firm. Davidoff Hutcher & Citron represented Bannon in a series of contentious courtroom battles, which he insists were politically motivated.
Filed in a New York state court last Friday, the lawsuit seeks the payment of an outstanding balance of $480,487 for legal services provided to Bannon between November 2020 and November 2022. The firm claims that Bannon ran up a bill of more than $855,000, of which he has paid $375,000.
The firm represented Bannon when he was accused in 2020 of defrauding donors who contributed to a fundraising campaign aimed at building a wall along the US-Mexico border. In the lawsuit, Davidoff Hutcher & Citron claim that they helped Bannon secure a pardon from Trump to dismiss these charges before Trump left office in January 2021.
The company also represented Bannon when he was charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the Democrat-led House committee investigating the pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill in 2021. Bannon was found guilty of contempt last October and given a four-month prison sentence, which he has appealed.
A US Navy veteran and former investment banker, Bannon co-founded Breitbart News in 2007. He left the conservative news site in 2016 to lead Trump’s election campaign, and was appointed chief strategist and senior counselor to the president following Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton. He left the position eight months later and returned to political punditry.
Bannon described the contempt proceedings as a “show trial,” telling reporters outside the courtroom in October that he was being punished for standing “with Trump and the constitution.”
Although Trump’s pardon resulted in the dismissal of the 2020 fraud case against Bannon, it was taken up again last September by New York Attorney General Letitia James, an outspoken opponent of Trump. Bannon is facing six criminal charges, including fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering.
"This is what happens in the last days of a dying regime," he said after his indictment. "They'll never shut me up. They'll have to kill me first."

Russian spy ring in Australia busted after major counter espionage operation
A Russian spy ring in Australia operated in the country for more than 18 months before it was broken in a counter espionage operation by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
The Australian domestic intelligence service spent months tracking the spies and ensured they did not suspect they were being watched, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Sources with knowledge of the ASIO operation say some of the Russian agents posed as diplomatic and consular staff while others used deep cover identities.
They operated from a number of locations, including the Russian embassy in Canberra, sources said, before they were forced out of Australia.
Their goal was to recruit Australians with access to confidential information and steal data using advanced technology.
ASIO director-general Mike Burgess on Tuesday described the spy ring but did not name Russia.
His mention of the Russian spy ring came as he warned Australia faces an unprecedented threat of espionage and foreign interference with more Australians being targeted by agents than ever before.
Multiple nations were using espionage and foreign interference to advance their interests and undermine ASIO efforts.
"They are using espionage to covertly understand Australia's politics and decision-making, our alliances and partnerships, and our economic and policy priorities," Burgess said.
"Based on what ASIO is seeing, more Australians are being targeted for espionage and foreign interference than at any time in Australia's history – more hostile foreign intelligence services, more spies, more targeting, more harm, more ASIO investigations, more ASIO disruptions."

Trail of Funding for AI ‘Machine Learning Fairness’ Leads to Leftist Billionaires Omidyar, Hoffman, Soros
This week we examined the field of Machine Learning Fairness, which seeks to imprint AI programs with leftist assumptions and priorities. Following the money behind the leading organizations of ML Fairness leads to some familiar funding sources, including leftist billionaires Pierre Omidyar, George Soros, and Reid Hoffman.
One of the most well-funded efforts to control AI is the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative, a joint project of the MIT Media Lab and Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Media & Society.
By 2017, the initiative had raised $26 million from various sources that played a prominent role in pushing the “disinformation” panic, including Pierre Omidyar’s Luminate, the Knight Foundation, and the notoriously leftist tech bro Reid Hoffman, whose sinister election-influencing activities have been well documented.
Both the MIT Media Lab and the Berkman Klein Center were heavily involved in the disinformation panic, and have been involved in controversies. Joi Ito, the president of the MIT lab, had to resign in 2019 after it was revealed that the organization accepted donations from Jeffrey Epstein.
The Berkman Klein Center, meanwhile, was for years the pulpit of Dr. Joan Donovan, a partisan Democrat who used the disinformation panic to cast doubt on the Hunter Biden “laptop from hell” story.
The priorities of the Ethics and Governance of AI Initiative are similarly leftist — it aims to bring the values of ESG and wokeness to AI. Its mission statement is to “ensure that technologies of automation and machine learning are researched, developed, and deployed in a way which vindicates social values of fairness, human autonomy, and justice.”
In 2017, the Initiative hosted an “AI and Inclusion” summit with financial support from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations and others. In 2019, it gave out six-figure sum awards to projects aimed at stopping the use of AI to “spread disinformation.” Clearly, the priorities of the MIT Media Lab and the Berkman Klein Center are the same as ever.
Another organization to keep an eye on is the AI Now Institute, which is backed by Lumiate, an Omidyar organization, as well as the Ford and MacArthur foundations.
The AI Now Institute was perhaps the first organization to make ML Fairness its sole focus, and its priorities are predictably woke: making sure AIs don’t get too effective in fields like criminal background checks, and making sure it gets very effective at promoting leftist causes like the Green New Deal.
The co-founder of the AI Now Institute, Meredith Whittaker, worked at Google for several years before moving to the FTC under Biden and then the Signal Foundation.
