personal choice depending on how much you are talking about and if you have a safe mattress

when my bank shut down everything but the drive up window for "covid" i started keeping and using more cash

told my banker the only thing you have to do to shut down this and all other banks

is not raise that one venetion blind some monday morning and not answer the phone

things have changed and having actual cash in hand does not seem as strange as it used to

every quarter each bank pays into the fdic fund in proportion to its size

it is fdic insurance

and like car insurance for example they plan on one or two wrecks per year among them all

if half the cars in the country have a big pileup all at once

there is not enough money in the pool to fix them all

fdic was started after all the small account owners lost everything in the great depression bank failures

it was not designed to bail out everyone with large accounts

but it looks like the large account owners have a lot of politicians in their now empty pockets

owning a senator or two was their "rainy day plan"
