Obama-Appointed Judge Orders Trump’s Lawyer to Testify Before Grand Jury in Classified Documents Case
Chief Judge Beryl Howell of DC, an Obama appointee on Friday ordered Trump’s lawyer Evan Corcoran to testify before a grand jury in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into classified documents stored at Mar-a-Lago.
Jack Smith’s lawyers last Thursday asked Judge Beryl Howell to reject Trump’s claims of attorney-client privilege.
The Special Counsel is seeking more testimony from Trump’s former lawyer Eric Corcoran because they don’t have a case.
On Friday, Judge Howell ruled DOJ prosecutors ‘met the threshold for the crime-fraud exception’ for Trump’s attorney.
A Trump spox blasted the Obama judge’s ruling as a “violation of due process.”
“Whenever prosecutors target the attorneys, that’s usually a good indication their underlying case is very weak. If they had a real case, they wouldn’t need to play corrupt games with the Constitution. Every American has the right to consult with counsel and have candid discussions – this promotes adherence to the law,” the spokesperson said, according to CNN.

In a monumental ruling Friday, a federal judge ordered Donald Trump attorney Evan Corcoran to provide additional testimony as part of an investigation into the former president’s handling of classified documents, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
Corcoran has the potential to become one of the most crucial witnesses in special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal investigation into possible mishandling of classified records after the Trump presidency and obstruction of justice.
District Judge Beryl Howell said in an order under seal that Justice Department prosecutors have met the threshold for the crime-fraud exception for Corcoran, the source said.
The scope of what DOJ will be allowed to ask, however, was not immediately clear. Trump’s team is expected to appeal and ask for the judge’s order to be stayed while legal proceedings play out.

Graffiti on justice minister’s home brands him ‘enemy of the people’
Likud ministers, opposition MKs decry vandalism targeting Yariv Levin, a leading figure in the government’s judicial overhaul push
Police on Friday launched an investigation after graffiti denouncing Justice Minister Yariv Levin was spray-painted on an outer wall of his home in Modiin.
The graffiti called Levin “the enemy of the people.”
There was no immediate comment from Levin, who is observing the traditional Jewish mourning period after his father died earlier this week. It was not clear if he was home when the graffiti was spray-painted.
A police statement said officers were working to gather evidence.
Levin, a top Likud party confidante of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is a leading figure in the government’s push to overhaul the judicial system, which have been met with mass protests.
As part of the demonstrations, protesters have also held rallies outside the homes of ministers who back the shakeup plans, including Levin’s, where several were assaulted in January. On Friday, demonstrations were held outside the houses of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter, both of Likud.
Condemning the graffiti, Netanyahu called for police and prosecutors to take immediate and forceful action.
President Isaac Herzog said in a condemnation statement that the graffiti was “a horrifying sight.”
Likud Minister Miki Zohar claimed the graffiti was the result of “an organized campaign of incitement aimed at spreading hate against us.”
“We are democratically implementing the will of the voter and bringing a long-awaited change. The incitement and lies that our democracy is in danger are spin that is meant to deter the public,” he wrote on Twitter.
“The reform will be completed,” Zohar vowed.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch, also of Likud, said “hatred like this is what may destroy our society,”
“Shame on you,” he added.
A number of opposition MKs also denounced the vandalism, including Yest Atid chief Yair Lapid, who said the graffiti did not keep with “the spirit of patriotic protest.”
“Even when the house is on fire, boundaries need to be placed,” tweeted National Unity leader Benny Gantz. “The demonstrations to safeguard democracy are critical. Malicious graffiti and incitement are illegitimate.”
Fellow National Unity MK Chili Tropper called to keep “hatred” outside the political discourse.

Texas state Sen. Donna Campbell questioned psychologist Dr. Megan Mooney on her position on puberty blockers for gender-confused kids during a hearing Thursday.
The questioning took place during a hearing in the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs on Senate Bill 14. The legislation would prohibit doctors from prescribing transgender hormones, surgery, or puberty blockers to children under the age of 18. Campbell, the sponsor of the bill, questioned a witness testifying against the bill.
“Whenever a child comes in and says, ‘I’m a trans kid,’ do you believe them?” Campbell asked Mooney.
“Yes,” Mooney responded.
Mooney is currently suing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for guidance he released to the state’s child protection services (CPS) that threatened criminal penalties for doctors and teachers who aided a child in sex change procedures. Mooney, who has worked with transgender-identified patients for 15 years, says complying with the guidance would be, “violating her professional standards of ethics and inflict serious harm and trauma on her clients,” The Guardian reported.
“So what’s the basis for prescribing puberty blockers? Is being trans enough, or are there some trans kids that you might say no to?”
“I’m not a prescribing physician, so I can’t speak to the — ”
“But you are the one that is there to either sign a paper that says they’ve had therapy and it’s ok to put them on medications, right?”
“I am there to say that they meet criteria for clinical distress.”
Gender-confused children should first “address any psychological, medical or social problems that could interfere with treatment” before taking puberty blockers, according to the Mayo Clinic. According to the Gender Confirmation Center, in order to receive puberty blockers a minor must first “work with an endocrinologist or primary care doctor and a mental health professional.”
“So they see you, they get to you because you’re a known expert,” Campbell said. “So they’re referred to you, you see them, you believe them, you sign a form, they take it to their doc — they’ve had the counseling and they’re able now to get the medicine?”

Rick Scott demands answers on NIH funding that went to Wuhan Institute of Virology
Scott is calling for more information on how NIH monitors the flow of its grant money
Florida Senator Rick Scott on Friday demanded answers from the Biden administration on a watchdog report that said grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was directed to China's Wuhan Institute of Virology, and pressed the administration to explain if it is barring future funding to the lab that some think is the source of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a letter sent to Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, Scott noted that an HHS report from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) found that NIH failed to properly monitor their grant awards, including one to the Wuhan lab. The OIG report found that HHS grants to the non-profit group EcoHealth Alliance weren't properly monitored as they made their way to the lab.
"NIH allowed EcoHealth Alliance to sub-award the grant to the Communist Chinese government and failed to conduct proper oversight," Scott wrote. "American tax dollars should always be protected from waste, fraud, and abuse. It is vital that NIH provide oversight of how these funds are spent on grants."
The report also recommended that NIH consider barring the Wuhan lab from future grants, and Scott asked NIH how it was going to handle that recommendation.
"OIG recommends that the [Wuhan Institute of Virology] should be debarred from future federal contracts," he wrote. "What is NIH doing about this matter?"
Scott said that because of the overall failure to properly oversee the grant funding to the Wuhan lab, EcoHealth Allliance failed to report in on how the money was being spent. He argued that some of the information that was missing related to the Wuhan grant could have shed light on the source of COVID-19, a question that is still being debated within the U.S. government. Some federal agencies believe the most likely source of COVID was the Wuhan lab.
"Some of the missing information included data from the [Wuhan lab]," Scott wrote. "This information, which could provide further clarity on the origin of COVID-19, has been lost." He added that neither the lab nor China's government have shown any interest in "being transparent and providing information to NIH."
Scott also noted that federal standards require oversight before grants are sent to institutions that might perform gain-of-function research. But he said the federal system of oversight failed to review the grant to the Wuhan lab.
"The first priority of the NIH should be to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure that all funds are properly accounted for with appropriate oversight of both the funding and the research," Scott’s letter read. "This failure by NIH is unacceptable."
Scott listed more than a dozen other questions for Becerra to answer, including how NIH monitors and determines where its grant money goes and whether EcoHealth is going to receive any more federal funding.
He called for grants that are going to foreign governments in particular to receive "a higher level of scrutiny."

If Trump is charged, he must surrender to New York authorities and appear in court to enter a plea to the charges. Pakistani High Court suspends arrest warrant for former PM
Earlier attempts to detain Imran Khan led to violent clashes between police and his supporters
Pakistan’s High Court has suspended the arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Imran Khan, local news outlet Dawn reported on Friday. This follows a tense confrontation between police and the politician’s supporters during a failed attempt to enforce the warrant.
The Lahore High Court ruled on protective bail in nine cases against Khan, who is the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. He faces charges that had necessitated that he be arrested and brought to court. However, the judges granted Khan freedom until hearings on March 24 and March 27 in Islamabad and Lahore, respectively.
A video posted on the party’s official Twitter account shows the PTI leader leaving the court in a car following the ruling, on the roof of which was stationed a man carrying an assault rifle. The vehicle was surrounded by a crowd of supporters armed with sticks.
This decision comes directly after an attempt to detain the politician at his residence in Lahore ended in a violent clash between the authorities and PTI supporters on Wednesday. Khan wrote on Twitter that the police’s real intent is to "abduct and assassinate" him rather than merely enforcing the warrant. He also claimed that law enforcement used tear gas, water cannons, and even resorted to firing live rounds. This was not the first failed attempt to arrest Khan, as he avoided police last week as well, saying the court lacked the necessary security to protect him from assassination attempts.
Khan assumed the office of prime minister of Pakistan in 2018 but was ousted in 2022 and has since been embroiled in legal disputes. The state accuses him of unlawfully selling state gifts given to him by foreign dignitaries during his tenure as prime minister. Khan claims the cases are politically motivated and aimed at preventing him from returning to power.
The PTI has been leading protests across Pakistan and calling for snap elections. During a November rally in Wazirabad, an attacker opened fire on Khan, injuring him and eight others.
