Democrats broadly condemned the ruling over the weekend. “Let’s be clear, this is about the Republicans’ goal of a nationwide abortion ban,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.).
Former Vice President Mike Pence, a likely presidential candidate, was one of a few Republicans to publicly comment on the judge’s decision. “The FDA acted carelessly and with blatant disregard for human life and the well-being of American women, and today’s ruling fixed a 20 year wrong,” Mr. Pence said Friday.
Representatives for former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a presumed presidential aspirant who is considering a state bill that would ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, didn’t respond to requests for comment on Friday’s ruling.
