Trump’s House GOP allies take fight to Manhattan DA’s turf

NEW YORK (AP) — Republicans upset with Donald Trump’s indictment are escalating their war on the prosecutor who charged him, trying to embarrass Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on his home turf partly by falsely portraying New York City as a place overrun by crime.

The House Judiciary Committee, led by Ohio Republican Jim Jordan, held a field hearing Monday near Bragg’s offices to examine the Democrat’s “pro-crime, anti-victim” policies.

New York City has “lost its way when it comes to fighting crime and upholding the law,” Jordan said. “Here in Manhattan, the scales of justice are weighed down by politics. For the district attorney justice isn’t blind — it’s about advancing opportunities to promote a political agenda — a radical political agenda.”

Democrats said the hearing was a partisan stunt aimed at amplifying conservative anger at Bragg, Manhattan’s first Black district attorney. …

Chaos as protesters crash Republican hearing

attacking Alvin Bragg's 'pro-crime' policies in New York: Bodega worker who stabbed thief in self-defense slams 'horrible violence' - while DEMOCRAT says he has 'never seen lawlessness like this'

â–¶ 'Here in Manhattan the scales of justice are weighed down by politics,' Chairman Jim Jordan said

â–¶ 'Let me be very clear, we are here for one reason and one reason only the chairman is doing the bidding of Donald Trump,' Jerry Nadler said

Chaos broke out at the Judiciary Committee's Manhattan crime hearing with protesters demanding to be let in and Chairman Jim Jordan having to tell the witness section to be quiet multiple times due to outbursts of applause during testimony.

Pro- and anti-Jordan protesters clashed with police trying to keep them out of the hearing room, while the chairman knocked Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's crime policies.

Meanwhile inside the committee room Jordan had to have multiple people removed from the witness section after chaotic outbursts where one protester shouted 'Jim Jordan I love you!' and 'Ralph Nadler you are a disgrace!,' referring to ranking member Jerry Nadler.

'In this country, justice is supposed to be blind regardless of race, religion, or creed. However, here in Manhattan the scales of justice are weighed down by politics,' Jordan, R-Ohio, said in his opening statement.

Nadler, a New Yorker himself, said in his opening statement that the hearing was just a way for Republicans to carry water for former President Trump. …
