The new laws mean healthcare providers cannot be sued by red states where gender-affirming medication and surgery are illegal if their residents travel to Colorado for care. Some of the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee insulted and patronized the witnesses who testified in Monday's hearing about violent crime in New York City by calling them "props" or by disregarding their criticisms of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) said the families of victims who were testifying were props for the Republican party. "The Republican witnesses who have used their time to District Attorney Bragg have served as props in a MAGA Broadway production," Johnson said, which caused an uproar from the audience. Chairman Jim Jordan had to call the hearing into order to allow Johnson to finish his remarks.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit tossed a Berkeley, California, ban on gas stoves on Monday, saying that the federal Energy Policy and Conservation Act preempted state and local authorities in regulating natural gas. The Courthouse News Service reported: The three-judge panel’s ruling reverses a federal judge’s dismissal of a lawsuit by the California Restaurant Association claiming the Energy Policy and Conservation Act preempts the San Francisco Bay Area city’s ban. The group said the ordinance would affect chefs’ ability to prepare food the way they are typically trained — using natural gas stoves.
