~ A band from berkeley that garnered much praise for their live work but not in album sales….they were : terry garthwaite and her younger brother david (later replaced by jeff neighbor)/toni brown ex crabgassers country string band/ron wilson & drummer fritz kasten ex vince guaraldo and big brother and the holding co (pre joplin)…formed in berkeley '67 they soon built up a following and releasing their debut record in '71 'closer to the ground' capital records but its from the second album i've chosen this fabulous laid back kicking up the dust track 'did you go downtown' from the record 'joy of cooking' capital records again '71….wilson had earlier appeared on the jerry corbitt (ex youngbloods) album in '69 and mad rivers follow-up album 'paradise bar and grill' '69 ….garthwaite & brown appeared as 'the gourmets delight' on the country joe and the fish movie 'gas-s-s-s' where they performed two tracks….with both women coming from a folk background this was heavily featured in their songwriting over the three albums the group released…a fourth was recorded but remained unreleased due to the group breaking up in '73 with garthwaite & brown recording a fine country based album 'cross country' for capital in '73…2017 saw a 'live' concert released on the 'aircuts' label of a concert at the fillmore west in may '71 & broadcast by 'KSAN' if you want to hear more…..
