Putin comments on Ukrainian counteroffensive

Kiev’s long-anticipated push to retake lost territories has started, the Russian president says

The much-anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive has started, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said. He cited the deployment of Kiev’s strategic reserves as a telltale sign of the operation.

“We can state with absolute certainty that this Ukrainian counteroffensive has begun, and the use of strategic reserves points to it,” Putin said at a press conference on Friday.

The president noted that particularly heavy fighting has been ongoing forfive days, with Russian troops managing to hold their positions.

He also claimed that the Ukrainian military has sufferedfar heavier casualties than the“classic” three-to-one ratiooften expected during an offensive.

However, Kiev has still retained its offensive capabilities, Putin said. He added that he expected Russian commanders to “assess the situation realistically” and act accordingly.

The Russian leader also acknowledged that Moscow’s troops arefacing shortages of modern weapons, and expressed hope that the country’s military industry will soon be able to satisfy growing demand. (Why announce this? Is it a diversion?)

Putin attributed the purported failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive to the effectiveness of the armaments already at the disposal of Russian forces.

On Thursday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu revealed that the Ukrainian military had tried to break through Russian defenses in Zaporozhye Region. However, this attempt was thwarted by pre-emptive artillery and aerial strikes, the official claimed.

According to the minister, Kiev’s forces suffered losses running into the thousands as a result.

On Friday, Moscow stated that Ukraine had lost up to 1,240 troops and 39 tanks in just 24 hours. Dozens of armored vehicles and artillery units, including ones provided by Western countries, were also destroyed, Russian military officials claimed.

Citing anonymous senior US officials, CNN also reported that theUkrainian military had sustained “significant” casualties this week.

The outlet’s sources described “greater than expected resistance from Russian forces.”

Ukraine shifts timeline for Crimean incursion

Kiev’s military intelligence service has claimed its “prophetic” vision will come true before the winter

A spokesman for Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) has downplayed a failed prediction made by his boss, Kirill Budanov, who had claimed thatUkrainian troops would enter Crimea by the end of spring. The new target is sometime this yearbefore the weather turns cold, the official insisted.

When asked about Budanov’s inaccurate assessment by the Ukrainskaya Pravda newspaper on Friday, spokesman Andrey Yusov said it was not “a bookmaker’s bet or a date on a tear-off calendar.”

“But the overall situation and the wider assessment remain the same:Ukraine will definitely return Crimea. And then Budanov’s words would be prophetic,” Yusov claimed.

He declined to set a more specific deadline, citing battlefield uncertainties, but suggested that the touted breakthrough would happen “while it is warm.”

Crimea rejoined Russia in 2014, after the local population voted overwhelmingly in favor of the move following a Western-backed armed coup in Kiev. The Ukrainian government and its supporters rejected the outcome of the plebiscite, and claim that the territory is illegally occupied.

Budanov hasmade several predictionson when Ukrainian troops wouldsupposedly enter Crimea. In May 2022, he set the end of the year as the deadline, while in October he claimed Kiev would “liberate” Crimea in the spring of 2023. He publicly expressed confidence in that time frame as late as April.

Russian officials have warned that an attempted military invasion of Crimea would be countered with major resistance. The pushback would “obviously involve the use of all defensive measures, including those articulated in the nuclear doctrine,” Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy chair of the Security Council and former Russian president, told journalists in March.

President Trump announced via Truth Social, he has been indicted by the Joe Biden DOJ for documents held in Mar-a-Lago, formerly raided by the FBI.

According to initial media reports, the DOJ has filed an indictment consisting of seven counts. There are no specifics on the charges. President Trump has been told to report to Federal Court in Miami on Tuesday at 3:00pm.

The case against President Donald Trump might look bad on paper, because that is what the case against Donald Trump was designed to do. However, ultimately this case is on atrajectory to go up to a much higher court in discoveryand pre-trial argument, because eventually these definitions are going to become an issue for the prosecution.

Remember, they wouldn’t even let a court appointed “special master” review the documents.

Stop and think about that for a moment. NO ONE knows what the documents are, and the DOJ has stated they will never say what the documents are. The DOJ is filing a case about the mishandling of documents, in whatever legal construct they put forth, while simultaneously saying they areunder no obligation to tell anyone what the documents are.
