Luman Walters: Joseph Smith’s Mentor
The Smith family lived close to the Walter family in Vermont. Luman was into magic, palmistry and conjuration stones. He was called a fortune teller and a clairvoyant, titles that were also given to Joseph Smith Jr.
Luman was arrested twice for defrauding his clients. Joseph Smith was arrested on similar charges in 1826.
Luman Walters lived in the Palmyra, New York area from about 1822-1830.
By 1834, Walters moved away from the Saints to Gorham, New York.
