I saw another video where a young guy was at the launch site above the Titanic and was on the next decent, but that trip down got scrubbed due to electrical issues on the submersible. That was just days before the fatal decent that only reached the Titanic in the form of reigning debris.

Titanic sits at 3,800 meters, this sub was only theoretically rated to 4,000 meters, meaning this machine was being routinely operated at its limit. And no one on the planet can tell you before hand what the duty cycle might be on such a bizarre construction. This thing was designed to fail long before its owner could admit.

Pretty much. The only reason the dude got interested in carbon fiber is that it is much, much cheaper than sub-grade steel or of course titanium.

The observation window was only rated by its manufacturer to 1,300 meters, this ass knew that and still took it down to 3,800 meters, its a miracle it survived one trip, let alone 3.

Good analogy.

One thing I don't get; he was warned by everyone, and word had gotten around the "extreme tourist" clique that this might not be a trip to take, it could well be a one way ticket. And yet you had three wealthy people pony up $250,000 per head for the privilege. Word is the kid was scared to death but went with his dad. Geeze.
