New York City will be cracking down on wood-fired pizza joints to reduce carbon emissions by up to 75%.

 

โ€œAll New Yorkers deserve to breathe healthy air and wood and coal-fired stoves are among the largest contributors of harmful pollutants in neighborhoods with poor air quality,โ€ Department of Environmental Protection spokesman Ted Timbers said in a statement to the New York Post on Sunday. โ€œThis common-sense rule, developed with restaurant and environmental justice groups, requires a professional review of whether installing emission controls is feasible.โ€

 

According to the New York Post, some restaurateurs are currently negotiating with DEP officials.

 

Iconic pizzerias known for their wood-fired pizzas such as Grimaldis, Arturoโ€™s, Lombardiโ€™s, and others may be exempt from the mandate.

 

The New York Post reported:

 

Historic Big Apple pizza joints could be forced to dish out mounds of dough under a proposed city edict targeting pollutant-spewing coal-and-wood-fired ovens, The Post has learned.

 

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection has drafted new rules that would order eateries using the decades-old baking method to slice carbon emissions by up to 75%.

 

The rule could require pizzerias with such ovens installed prior to May 2016 to buy pricey emission-control devices โ€” with the owner of one Brooklyn joint saying heโ€™s already tossed $20,000 on an air filter system in anticipation of the new mandate.

 

โ€œOh yeah, itโ€™s a big expense!โ€ said Paul Giannoni, the owner of Paulie Geeโ€™s in Greenpoint. โ€œItโ€™s not just the expense of having it installed, itโ€™s the maintenance. I got to pay somebody to do it, to go up there every couple of weeks and hose it down and you know do the maintenance.โ€

More than 100 people were detained at the LGBTQ pride parade in Tรผrkiyeโ€™s largest city on Sunday, Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said. Activists took to the streets despite the ban on the event.

Geng, Chinaโ€™s deputy permanent representative to the UN, made the comments on Tuesday to a special committee on decolonisation, which adopted a resolution calling on Britain and Argentina to resume negotiations over the islands, also known as the Malvinas.

 

โ€œThe issue of the Malvinas Islands is a historical legacy of colonialism. Although the colonial era has passed, hegemonism and power politics that are in line with colonial thinking still exist today,โ€ he said, quoted by the SCMP.

 

Geng said this way of thinking has a โ€œserious impactโ€ on international relations and order and โ€œseriously damagesโ€ the sovereignty, security and development interests of the countries involved.

Argentina maintains that the islands โ€“ about 600km (370 miles) from its coastline in the South Atlantic โ€“ were illegally taken by Britain, which argues that it has territorial claims dating back to 1765.

 

The centuries-old dispute flared into a two-month war between the two countries in 1982, after an attempt by Buenos Aires to take the territory prompted Britain to dispatch a naval taskforce to regain the islands. The issue was revived again this past March, when Argentina walked away from a 2016 cooperation agreement โ€“ covering issues such as energy, shipping and fishing, but not sovereignty โ€“ and demanded a return to negotiations over the islands.

 

British foreign secretary James Cleverly said firmly that the islands are British territory, pointing out on Twitter that the islanders โ€œhave chosen to remain a self-governing UK overseas territoryโ€ similar to what Russia did with residents in Crimea in the Donbass but the western media was less enthused back then.

'Non-binary' identifying students in New Jersey skyrocket over 4,000% since 2019

 

Leftist politicians in the state believe parents should not know about any feelings of gender confusion their child may have.

 

Recent state enrollment data from New Jersey has found that the amount of students in the public school system who are non considering themselves to be "non-binary" has skyrocketed over 4,000 percent during the past four years.

 

In the 2019-2020 school year, a mere total of 16 students identified with such a label, according to enrollment figures from the New Jersey Department of Education. Now, that number has ballooned to 675, marking an excess of a 4118 percent increase for the 2022-23 school year.

 

Following a new policy passed by a school district last month saying that it will consult parents on anything which could have "a material impact on a student's physical and/or mental health," New Jersey Democrat Attorney General Matthew Platkin filed a lawsuit against the rule, arguing it "discriminates" against so-called โ€˜LGBTQโ€™ pupils by mandating teachers to "out" them to the parents without first receiving permission of the child.

 

Democrat state Governor Phil Murphy expressed his support for the attorney generalโ€™s legal action.

 

New Jersey is not the only state where such marked upswings in children identifying with such a concept have been observed in recent times. Marylandโ€™s largest public school district, for instance, observed a drastic 582 percent increase of students in Montgomeryโ€™s County Schools labeling themselves as โ€œgender nonconformingโ€ in a short two-year period, per student surveys.

 

Just earlier this month, The Post Millenial covered some of the backlash seen in Montgomery County after a group of Muslims furiously protested the educatorsโ€™ forcing of โ€˜LGBTQโ€™ teachings on its students. Chants of "Protect our children," and "Religious Freedom now" could be heard outside of a school board meeting.

Australia to provide Ukraine with major assistance package as government pledges to stand with Kyiv for 'as long as it takes'

 

Australia has renewed its support for the Ukrainian war effort with the Albanese government declaring it will stand side-by-side with the conflict-ridden country for โ€œas long as it takesโ€.

 

The Australian government has revealed it will provide $110 million in military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as Kyiv continues its major counteroffensive in the war with Russia.

 

Australia has been one of the largest non-NATO contributors to the Ukrainian war effort after Russia invaded in February 2022.

 

The large majority of the package will be military aid and will include a significant provision of armoured vehicles.

 

Australia will send 70 vehicles to the war-torn nation including 28 M113 armoured vehicles, 14 special operation vehicles and 28 MAN 40M medium trucks and 14 trailers.

 

As part of the package, Ukraine will also receive a significant supply of 105mm artillery ammunition.

 

While the vast majority of the latest investment will cover military aid, the government will also provide $10 million to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

 

The fund assists with the millions of displaced people and those in need of shelter, health services, clean water and sanitation.

 

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the announcement alonside Defence Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Monday after Cabinet agreed to the latest provision of aid.

 

Mr Albanese sought to downplay suggestions the package would not meet the ongoing demands of the Ukrainian government.

 

He touched on the Australian Hawkei vehicles, which have been the centrepiece of the Ukrainian defence ministryโ€™s requests, but said the seven-tonne armoured car was not the โ€œbest way we can provide assistanceโ€.

 

โ€œWhat we have done is asked the ADF, what is the best way we can provide support in the immediate sense that is available to us,โ€ Mr Albanese said.

 

The Prime Minister also said the new package would โ€œmake a real differenceโ€ in Ukraineโ€™s war efforts.

 

โ€œHelping the Ukrainian people who continue to show great courage in the face of Russia's illegal, unprovoked and immoral war,โ€ the Prime Minister said.

 

โ€œIt is sobering that 16 months on from Russia's invasion, its brutal conflict continues.โ€

 

The Defence Minister also scurried any suggestions Australia was slowly withdrawing its continued support for Ukraine.

 

Mr Marles said the Albanese government would maintain its financial and military assistance for โ€œas long as it takesโ€.

 

โ€œWhat is at issue in Ukraine today is the sanctity of the global rules-based order, and it is very important that Australians understand that this engages our national interest,โ€ Mr Marles said.

The puny double drone attack โ€“ a combined Anglo-Saxon neocon provocation โ€“ has offered Moscow the perfect gift: an unmistakable casus belli.

 

Yevgeny Prighozin, the maestro of private military company Wagner, is never shy of also performing as a master communicator / troller / psyop specialist.

 

So no wonder when he delivered a recent rhetorical missile โ€“ here, in Russian, on War Gonzo โ€“ quite a few eyebrows were raised.

 

In the heat of war, and on the eve of the incessantly mythologized Ukrainian โ€œcounter-offensiveโ€ โ€“ which may or may not happen in myriad suicidal forms โ€“ Prighozin went on the record absolutely destroying the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD), Minister Shoigu personally, and the Kremlin bureaucracy.

 

The bombshell revelations caused serial ripples among Russian experts yet not among the English-speaking crowd, which seems not to have grasped the enormity of it all, as Russian insiders who analyzed the whole interview in detail told me. Here is a noteworthy exception, focusing on the key bullet points.

 

Prighozin does flirt with a few absurdities, offered with no proof. Example: Russia didnโ€™t win both Chechen wars; Putin paid Kadyrovโ€™s father a bribe to wrap it all up. Or the assertion that the Debaltsevo Cauldron in Donbass did not exist; instead Poroshenkoโ€™s army simply made an orderly retreat intact.

 

Yet itโ€™s the serious accusations that stand out. Among them: the SMO proved that the Russian Army is essentially unorganized, untrained, undisciplined, and demoralized; thereโ€™s no real leadership; and the MoD lies, routinely, about whatโ€™s happening in the battlefield as well as about Wagnerโ€™s maneuvers.

 

Prighozin is adamant that it was Wagner that launched an operation to stabilize the front when the Russian army was retreating in the chaos following a Ukrainian counterattack.

Prighozin is adamant that it was Wagner that launched an operation to stabilize the front when the Russian army was retreating in the chaos following a Ukrainian counterattack.

 

His main point is that Russia has all it takes to win, fast and decisively; but โ€œthe leadershipโ€ keeps the resources away from the actors who need it on purpose (presumably, Wagner).

 

And that ties up with the success in Bakhmut/Artemyovsk: the whole plan was masterminded by Wagner alongside โ€œGeneral Armageddonโ€ Surovikin.

 

โ€œKill me, that would be better than lyingโ€

 

Prigozhin is confident in his knowledge of where all the necessary military supplies are kept, enough to fight for another six months. Wagner needs a least 80,000 shells a day. Why they are not getting it amounts to โ€œpolitical sabotageโ€.

 

Because of Russian bureaucracy โ€“ from the MoD to the FSB, no one is spared โ€“ the Russian army โ€œhas been transformed from the worldโ€™s second-best army into one of the worst โ€“ Russia cannot even deal with Ukraine. Russiaโ€™s defenses wonโ€™t hold if supplies are not released to the soldiers.โ€

 

Prighozin ominously states in the interview that Wagner might have to retreat unless they get their supplies. He foresaw the Ukrainian counter-offensive as inevitable, setting a possible May 9 โ€“ Victory Day โ€“ as a starting point.

 

This Wednesday he doubled down: it has already started, in Artyomovsk, with โ€œunlimited manpower and ammunitionโ€ and itโ€™s threatening to overwhelm his undersupplied troops.

 

Prighozin proudly extols Wagner intel; his spooks and satellites tell him Kievโ€™s forces would even be able to reach Russian borders. He also fiercely debunks accusations of Fifth Columnism: emphasizing the need to cut through state propaganda, he says โ€œthe Russian people need to know because they will have to pay in blood for this. The bureaucrats will simply flee to the West. They are the ones afraid of the truth.โ€

 

That may be considered the money quote: โ€œI donโ€™t have the right to lie to the people who will have to live in this country in the future. Kill me if you want, that would be better than lying. I refuse to lie about this. Russia is on the brink of a catastrophe. If we donโ€™t immediately tighten these loose bolts, this airplane will disintegrate in mid-air.โ€

 

And he makes a quite decent geoeconomic point as well: why should Russia continue to sell oil to the West through India? He says this is

 

โ€œtreachery. The elites in Russia are in secret negotiations with the Western elite.โ€ That happens to be a key argument of Igor Strelkov.

The โ€œAngry Patriots Clubโ€

Thereโ€™s no question: if Prighozin is essentially telling the truth, this is โ€“ literally โ€“ nuclear. Either Prighozin knows everything nearly everyone doesnโ€™t, or this is a spectacular maskirovka.

 

Yet facts on the ground since February 2002 seem to support his main accusation: the Russian army canโ€™t properly fight because of a completely corrupt bureaucratic gang right at the very top of the MoD, all the way to Shoigu, all of them only interested in making a financial killing.

 

And it gets worse: under a rigidly bureaucratized environment, commanders at the frontlines have no autonomy to take decisions and quickly adapt, and need to wait for orders from far away. That should be the main reason for the Kiev counter-offensive standing a chance of imposing dramatic upsets.

 

Prighozin is definitely not alone among Russian patriots in voicing his analysis. In fact thereโ€™s nothing new: he was just more forceful this time. Strelkov has been saying the exact same thing since the start of the war. That even coalesced into an โ€œAngry Patriots Clubโ€ releasing an explosive video on April 19.

 

So here we have a small but very vocal group bearing impeccable patriotic credentials sounding a serious alarm bell: Russia runs the risk of losing this proxy war entirely unless dramatic changes take place right away.

 

Or, once again, this could be brilliant maskirovka โ€“ leaving the enemy totally misdirected.

 

If thatโ€™s the case, itโ€™s working like a charm. Kiev propaganda outlets triumphantly adopted Strelkovโ€™s accusations with headlines such as โ€œRussia is on the brink of defeat, Strelkov threatens the Kremlin with a coup.โ€

 

Strelkov keeps doubling down, insisting that the Russian state really does not take this war seriously and is planning to make a deal without really fighting, even ceding territory in Ukraine.

 

His evidence: the โ€œcorruptโ€ (Prighozin) Russian army did not make any serious effort to prepare the economy, or public opinion, for an offensive โ€“ in terms of training and logistics. And thatโ€™s because the elites in the Kremlin and the army do not rally believe in this war, nor want it; theyโ€™d rather go back to the pre-war status quo.

 

So here we go again. Maskirovka? Or a sort of Revenge of the MoD against Wagner? Itโ€™s a fact that at the start of the SMO the Russian army didnโ€™t exactly get its act together, they really needed Wagner on the ground. But now itโ€™s a different ball game, and the MoD may be engaged in gradually reducing Wagnerโ€™s role so Prighozinโ€™s men do not capture all the blazes of glory when Russia starts going for the jugular.

And then right in the middle of this incandescent confrontation, we have the irruption in the dead of night of a couple of puny kamikaze drones over the Kremlin.

 

This was no attempt to assassinate Putin: but rather a cheap PR stunt. Russian intel must have pieced the whole story by now: the drones were probably launched from inside Moscow or its suburbs, by Ukrainian strike cells dressed in civilian clothing and sporting fake IDs.

 

There will be more such PR stunts โ€“ anything from car bombs and booby traps to improvised landmines. Russia will have to step up internal security towards a real war footing.

 

But what about the โ€œresponseโ€ to โ€“ in Kremlin terminology โ€“ a โ€œterrorist attackโ€?

 

Elena Panini from Russtrat.ru has offered a priceless, non-hysterical appraisal:

 

โ€œThe purpose of the night strike, judging by the video footage, was not the Kremlin itself and not even the dome of the Senate Palace, but the flagpole on the dome with a duplicate of the standard of the President of the Russian Federation. The game of symbolism is already purely British stuff. A kind of โ€˜reminderโ€™ from London on the eve of the coronation of Charles III that the conflict in Ukraine is still developing according to the Anglo-Saxon scenario and within the framework set by them.โ€

 

So yes: those neo-Nazi mutts in Kiev are just tools. The orders that matter always come from Washington and London โ€“ especially when it comes to breaching red lines.

 

Panini argues itโ€™s time for the Kremlin to seize the definitive strategic initiative. That should include upgrading the SMO to the status of a real war; declare Ukraine as a terrorist state; and implement what is already being discussed in the Duma: the transition to the use of โ€œweapons that are capable of stopping and destroying the Kiev terrorist regime.โ€

A Putin โ€œassassination attemptโ€ combined with a drive to sabotage the May 9 Victory Day parade? The Stupid-O-Meter rules that only neocons can come up with such brilliance. So from now on their messenger, the warmongering actor in a sweaty T-shirt โ€“ alongside his close oligarchic circle โ€“ are all dead men walking.

 

Yet even that ultimately is irrelevant. Moscow could have designated Ukraine as a terrorist state right after the attack on the Kerch bridge, back in October 2022. But then NATO would have survived.

 

Perhaps Prigozhinโ€™s Twilight of the Gods scenario may have forgotten that what the Kremlin really wants is to go after the head of the snake. Putin did provide a serious hint, over a year ago:

 

interference by the collective West would lead to โ€œsuch consequences that you have never encountered in your history.โ€

 

And that explains NATOโ€™s panic. Some in Washington with an IQ over room temperature may have seen through the fog: thus the provocations โ€“ Kremlin drone stunt included โ€“ to force Moscow to quickly wrap the SMO up.

 

Oh no, thatโ€™s not gonna happen. For Moscow the state of things is swell; non-stop sinking of NATO weapons and finances into an immeasurable black hole. Cue to the Kremlin casually asserting yes, we will respond, but when we deem it appropriate. Now that, Dear Comrade Prighozin, is the ultimate maskirovka.

In an apparent reference to the manner in which some Russian politicians and businessmen have died in recent years, former CIA Director David Petraeus warned the owner of Russian paramilitary group Wagner to "stay away from open windows."

โ€œHe kept his life but lost his Wagner group,โ€ Petraeus said Sunday on CNN of the mercenary group's chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, who on Saturday halted his march to Moscow and accepted exile in Belarus, a country whose leader is useful to Russian President Vladimir Putin. โ€œHe should be very careful around open windows in his new surroundings, in Belarus, where he's going,โ€ Petraeus said.

A number of Russians, including some who have been critical of the war in Ukraine, have fallen to their deaths from rooftops and through high-rise windows. Russian lawmaker Pavel Antov died last year after falling from the roof of a hotel in India. Also last year, Russian oil executive Ravil Maganov died from a fall from a hospital window in Moscow. Maganov was the chairman of Lukoil PJSC, the country's second-largest oil-and-gas companyโ€“one of few Russian corporations to openly call for an end to Russiaโ€™s war in Ukraine.

Authorities are investigating Strong sulfur like odor spreading throughout northwest Indiana.

William Jefferson Blythe was a perfect "candidate".
